Free was there, 50 was very tough. Time between ump blowing the whistle and Firrito kicking the ball away was a second or 2, with a lot of nose going on.

Bartel is just an awesome player. His tagging job on Hayes after the 1st quarter of the 09 grand final won them that game IMO.

Did I say he didn't play well? Did I say the free kick wasn't there? The answer to both those questions is no. I said there is no clutch in kicking a goal from on the line.

9 times out of 10 if the umpire blows the whistle to award a free and an opposition player kicks the ball away it's a 50 metre penalty. North were lucky the umpire could only award 32 metres!

Superb effort by Bartel and the team in general, roof or no roof open, to comeback from 41 points down is a mighty effort indicitive of this teams resolve. Would've liked to have seen him milk the clock more after the 50 though!

Can't say that North didn't make more than one stupid error in that final quarter and even in the final 5 minutes but at the end of the day the ump paid a stupid free in what was a 50/50 situation at best esp., given the conditions. This means that the final result was based on umpires decision. Reckon he will be dropped next week.

He drove him into the ground. That is a free every day of the week.

I'd be more concerned about rolling over after being 41 points up TBH.

North fans are understandably grumpy this morning, but their team blew a 41 point lead mid way through the game. No point complaining about umpires, rain or roofs being closed. North had Geelong by the proverbials and lost their grip on the game. The Bartel 50 was there, it is every day of the week. North have had two close losses and they will beat Sydney next week. Geelong on the other hand cannot continue this run of poor starts which plagued them last season.
