Have you ever seen this bloke play? He would have to be in the fastest 2 or 3 at the club.
What!?

He's not close. Off the top of my head, players faster than Nelson:

Jetta
Yeo
Shuey
Shep
Schofield
Ryan
Rioli
Cripps
Petrucelle
Venables

Those people I'd say comfortably, with any of: Cole, Duggan, Gaff being around the same mark.

I for one hope that Simmo and the match committee pick blokes on form and not this credit in the bank bullshit they have been dishing up to us the last couple of seasons.
It's not hard to tap blokes on the shoulder and say

" Hey Lecca ya not gonna run and chase shoot back to the magoos and learn"

"Hey Nelso ya cant kick over a jam tin back to the magoos to you improve"

"Hey Darling shoot back to the magoos and learn how to take a ****ing chest mark"

"Hey Redden you truly are a beast can you take over the captaincy of this club and take us to greatness"

But in all seriousness they need to reward form and form alone, not this credit in the bank, will give him the benefit of the doubt to turn his form around rubbish.

Don't think JD has ever come into the conversation of getting games due to credits in the bank. Frustrating player but does his job.

No question his never come into that convo. Just for example Waterman is carving up in the 2's week in week out and Darling is struggling in the seniors do you reckon Simmo will have the balls to drop him or is he an untouchable. I hope he will make the tough calls this year and reward good form make every player earn there spot

Darling is a good player who if he got his sh!t together a bit more could be a champion player.

Im still hoping he can fix that 5% of his game that is holding him back from greatness.

His best is absolutely sublime. Just needs to do it consistently.
Good news is that he should be peaking in the next three years.

I love JD. Sure he stuffs up from time 2 time but he has a crack. Geez not many blokes have kicked 270+ goals by age 25.

I hope he stays fit and dominates 2018

Yes, this.

To give people some context, Jonathan Brown kicked 600 goals (just under) and Darling if he maintains fitness and his goal scoring record is on target to kick around the same amount. That's assuming Darling doesn't improve.

Would be a solid career if he retires at 32 or 33 with 600 goals

If Kennedy and Nic don’t play round 1, the team tomorrow is our likely team vs swans with the following positions left to decide:

- Two of Mcinnes/Waterman/Brander to play and cover FF and third tall/second ruck. If one of nic or kennedy is fit only one of those three will play
- Ainsworth vs Venables for last mid rotation spot

Think the other 19 guys are locked in with decent games tomorrow

There are stats and there are stats. I'd have thought Priddis' career would have taught us that.

Jon Brown took over games and stood up in the biggest moments. Jack Darling has rarely (ever?) been that guy. Brown was an absolutely key part of one of the best teams of all time. Darling is a perfect reflection of the West Coast era he has played in. Kind of good; statstistically decent; not really a threat to the best teams and not really someone those better teams worry about.

His career to date has been entirely decent but would we be demonstrably better or worse or more particularly any less of a threat to win anything if he wasn't there? Arguably not.

Ultimately he's not big enough to be a genuine first option tall and he's not agile or talented enough to play further up the ground or run through the midfield. He is what he is, a general solid second or third option in the home and away season, particularly at home and against non elite teams.
