JJ and Fogarty aren't competing for the same position currently, and with our ruck stocks as they are, JJ is pretty safe unfortunately.

Dear, and Himmelburg showing some life are the things we need to happen to replace JJ.
Teams have shown there's no necessity to have a genuine 2R.

Any of Greenwood, CEY, Keath, Hartigan could do it.

You don't need 2nd rucks anymore
CEY can 2nd ruck , in fact anyone can

Fog can displace JJ when Tex back if that's what form warrants

Gibbs has without question strengthened the mid forward line looked suspect without Tex but to be expected and defence has copped a huge hit without lever and smith

Tex will be back so we need some players to step up in D or we will be very frustrated with the defence this year

I’ll prefice this and say that I’m a Jenkins supporter, not a lover, but supporter. His 8 goal game against the bulldogs in 2016 was one of the better key forward games by a crow since Tex and tippet in the 2012 finals. There’s no doubt he can’t deal with being the number one banana up forward and that it take his time to get confidence after an injury (his broken ankle against WC hampered the follow season). But I agree with the assessments regarding his year to date. Last year in the JLT he was looking fantastic, pack marking and a hulking FF, kicking a few bags. This year he looks lost; completely lacking in confidence. I have no doubt he will rediscover some form this year but it should be in the sanfl. Him and harto need rockets and have been complete liability’s. Reckon tex’s injury will save him for rd 1 however.

He puts himself out there with his mouth. If that's true, then he's only got himself to blame. Not that I think it's likely, he just plays shit if he's not getting pressureless ball. There's really no change there at all.
Mmmm .... That's all true ....but his body language yesterday was not good .....genuinely looked dis-interested / flat ....so that wasn't about getting pressure ball or pressureless ball

Yes JJ does bring it on, with his Social Media presence ...but irrespective, i can understand if it has got to him ......it did with Tippett

This !!!

I noticed a long chat to Pykey on the phone as early as the first quarter . I think the coaches are becoming tired of his picking and choosing and I can see them taking a stand and playing him in SANFL even if we have injuries to other forwards

Would not surprise me to see a smaller forward line with CEY playing mid/ forward and 2nd ruck

It’s an extremely ballsy call, but I’d love to see the club drop JJ and play CEY. He can rotate midfield with resting forward and tucking inside F50 along with Greenwood.

Fogarty can play until Tex is 100% ready to go. Stiffy18 said he’s touch and go for round 2. Id give him til round 4-5 at least if that’s the case.

It’s a massive call to not have JJ or Tex going into round 1, I don’t expect it to happen, nor most on here to agree with it, but it’s what I’d like to see given the circumstances.

They'll take a while to gel .....would have preferred Smiths HB role to have been stabilized over the two JLT games ....rather than experimenting

There's just a lack of run out of defense AP .......Doedee will once he feels settled in the AFL side ......really need Milera desperately

We weren't able to pressure their running half backs eg Bonner and this is the problem with losing Cameron and being top heavy

Going to be an issue at times
People who criticised Charlie last year .....did not see all the little pressure acts that helped the side & caused pressure kicks by the opposition

I've watched the first 10 games last year & in each Chalie had a notable impact

I would be much happier with Keath at CHF .....smart footballer & puts his body on the line ....was originally drafted at a KPF as a 17 yo

Doedee seriously needs to start using his leg 12 handballs 2 kicks means the ball will be trapped in our defensive zone, very similar to the first JLT he lacks confidence in his leg, that should come with time or is Kelly or Keath a better option

In general, the biggest knock on him is exactly that though. When he's going poorly, he seems completely dis-interests. If he's not getting it on his terms, he's just plain awful.

No it doesn't. As long as he's quick with his hands he can be releasing other players into space. There's no point kicking for the sake of it if you can get the ball into the hands of a player with more time and space. You should know this.

That's him adjusting to the speed of AFL ......both Crouch bros started off being Handball fanatics .....players under pressure HBall ....the greats break away with legs & arrogance

Just a little patience with Doedee

Because Richmond won a premiership without one?

That opinion is very much in the same catagory of "forward lines will become smaller ". An overreaction, nothing more.

After yesterdays game there is imo 3 spots up for grabs in the 22. Between these 3 positions we will select an inside mid and 2 runners. We looked slow yesterday and on the fast deck at etihad you need speed. For this reason alone they will pick Mackay. Its terrible but it happens every year. He is the bradbury of the afc somehow getting through unscathed while everyone else in a similar position gets injured during pre season.(Milera, Knight, Galucci.)
Hartigan was hopeless yesterday and should be dropped for rd 1. Letting Watts beat him 1 on 1 numerous times and kick 6 on him was laughable. Not sure about Keaths injury but i feel he is better to go with daniher anyway.
With Walker a 50/50 to get up for rd 1 and Brad Crouch unlikely Jenkins will get picked as much as we dont like it. His efforts in the 2 games ive seen have been putrid and giving him a gold pass is just stupidity.
What i think they will go with for rd 1.

F. Fogarty Mcgovern Betts

Hf. Douglas Walker Lynch

C. Atkins Sloane Seedsman

Hb. Laird Keath Doedee

B. Kelly Talia Brown

R. Jacobs M.Crouch Gibbs

Int. Jenkins, Ellis yolmen, Hampton, Mackay
Yeah... nah.

I can't see them taking all of McGovern, Walker, Lynch, JJ and Fogarty into the game. Pick 4 of those 5. JJ probably deserves to miss out, but reality is that Fogarty would be the one to miss. That said, I don't think Walker will play in R1, so Fogarty still gets the nod.

Hartigan was putrid yesterday, but he still plays in R1. Keath goes out, with Doedee effectively becoming Lever's replacement.

Murphy replaces Hampton. This is an easy decision to make, given that Murphy can actually make good decisions and usually hits a target.

Gibson's disposal is really bad, but the selectors will value his work rate and running ability. He stays, until someone else forces him out of the team.

FF Jenkins McGovern Betts
HF Douglas Fogarty Lynch
C Atkins Sloane Seedsman
HB Laird Talia Doedee
FB Kelly Hartigan Brown
R Jacobs Mrouch Gibbs
Int Murphy Mackay Gibson Greenwood

Assumptions:
  • Walker, Knight, Brouch, Milera, Gallucci all either underdone (not match fit) or injured.
  • Poholke hasn't performed well enough to get a R1 call up.
Basically, no new players from JLT2. Hampton, Keath, and CEY omitted.

People who criticised Charlie last year .....did not see all the little pressure acts that helped the side & caused pressure kicks by the opposition

I've watched the first 10 games last year & in each Chalie had a notable impact

People weren't critising Charlie for his first half of last season. His second half of last season however saw Charlie to start to pick and choose defensively, stopped being an offensive threat etc.

I reckon CEY will make round 1.
I wanted to include him in my team. I think he's played well in the JLT matches. He looks very strong, but this comes with a lack of pace.

At the end of the day, he loses out to Greenwood. I'd like to include him in the 22, but I just couldn't find a position for him. We have to cull the team by 3, going from 25 to 22, so someone has to miss out. CEY is the most unlucky of these 3 players.

I wanted to include him in my team, and I think he's the most likely of the 3 players who I omitted. I just couldn't find a place for him in the team. He's not going to be selected ahead of Greenwood, which forced him out of the 22.

SorryS I wasn't specifically replying to your post, I just think he makes the round 1 team.

And you think that JJ is a better ruck than CEY ? I'll say now that CEY can be more effective as 2nd ruck . He will compete at throw ins and ball ups and he will be an extra mid and win the ball

JJ isn't playing because he can go into ruck for 10 mins a game . Anyone can do that

That's cool.. My response remains. Going from 25 to 22 means 3 players have to miss out (more if Walker/Knight/Brouch are ready to go). I just can't see how CEY survives the cull.
