I think Anthony is a similar player to Murphy, but stats wise Anthony is streets ahead of him.

Nearly double the number goals per game, over twice the number of tackles per game, more possessions per game, and more marks per game.

i think the real beauty in having jack will be that with stephen hill, mundy, morabito, suban, fyfe and ibbotson kicking the ball to him, he really isnt going to need that much opportunity to do a lot of damage, and with his dead eye kicking, he will make the most of it :thumbsu:

Basically I think we've gone from depth player (Murphy) to fringe 22 player (Anthony). He'll play because we don't really have anything else, but he isn't our long term answer in my opinion.

But still a short term fix is better than nothing.

The other upgrade on Murphy aspect to JA is that he can play back as well. That is significant when you are talking about specialist FF in Murphy with nothing else to offer. We saw it in some other player recently, played FF, but wasn't cutting it, and made a decent backman for us.

efa ;)

Also, Anthony is 22 and has potentially a lot more upside than Murphy.

dt, that is actually a very strange comment to make. If he is a decent player for us, that is, best22, and you think at his best he can be a 50+ goal FF, then that is not off-setting the loss of Tarrant. That is trumping what Tarrant has to offer, which is a couple of good years at best (in a role you seem to have covered for now, but poor future depth), if injuries don't get him first.

Now I'm not saying anything in particular about those 2 players, but if that is what you think, you should be jotting down a post about how bad your club has done in this whole saga on your own Board.

It's all about potential. Jack has proven he can kick 50 goals at AFL level. He needs to get more opportunities in order to further his career. At Collingwood we know he is a very good prospect but opportunities are/were limited. Cloke and Dawes are well ahead of him. It does hurt our "depth" but we have not lost any premiership players which is the main thing. Many players don't ever realise their full potential- hence the comments that I thought were fair and accurate about Jack.

This whole "saga" isn't a "bad outcome" for Collingwood. In fact, Jack decided to definitely walk after we secured Tarrant late on deadline day. Thems the breaks unfortuantely, particularly as nobody showed legit interest during trade week.

At the end of the day, Tarrant will be an automatic best 22 inclusion, Anthony was outside of the 22. If Tarrant helps us to go back-to-back, it will not matter how good a player Jack becomes because as we all know premierships are all that matters.

I do hope Jack carves out a good career though.

I really hope we do get him; all though all the Collingwood supporters monitoring this board will disagree strongly, I think Anthony is possibly better than Dawes and maybe even Cloke. Both Cloke and Dawes are yet to kick 50 goals in an AFL season and Cloke is a year older than John Anthony and Dawes the same age. Cloke can't kick straight and both Cloke and Dawes failed to get 40 or more goals this year in the Premiership side. Anthony got 25 goals in his first season from 12 games.

Will be a good pickup if we pull it off and could come back to bite Collingwood.

Youve convinced me ,the Murphy upgrade is well and truly forgotten:thumbsu::D

if we get him, then it's not the first time we've adopted a volatile forward from collingwood. ;)
tarrant used to be an antisocial pub brawler with a suspect kick :thumbsu:

What the hell are you doing? Now the Pies posters will never leave.

This thread has had over 350 posts and a Collingwood supporter has at least submitted one or two posts a page. Do you really think they are going anywhere?

We may aswell rub their noses in it. (If it eventuates)

Only if we absolutely have to. Nah, lets do it regardless.

That is so funny considering Geelong and Hawthorn did win premierships before Pies, and Saints drew the first GF. Regardless though, it isn't my argument that one is or isn't more important.

Because 07/08 is current, and 2010 isn't.......

I think you're right.

Good luck to Jack over there, just because he couldn't get a game with us doesn't mean he's wont be a good player and he should do well at a lesser side.
