Has accepted a postion at the Sydney Swans after 4 years at the Lions.
Thanks for your efforts while at the Lions & all the best for the future.

I wonder if that has anything to do with Roos saying he will leave when the senior group finish up.

You are joking right.....

You should know by now I don't joke about 'footy' stuff.

Taken an assistants job with the Swans.
Paul Roos & him grew up in the same suburb & have been friends for a lifetime. The opportunity to take the chance to help coach with a mate obviously too strong.

Understandable IMO.

Your kidding. I'd hate to admit it, but we are falling apart.

Its just the changing of the guard. Rebuilding periods arent only about on-field changes.

Things will stabilise next season.

But has a club every gone through such a horrible rebuilding phase like we have this year? We've already lost a few premiership players and two assistant coaches, and there could still be more to come.

eh? How many rebuilding phases have there been? We haven't finished lower than 13th, unlike Richmond, Carlton or Hawthorn etc who are supposedly rebuilding. What do I care who works at the club? Losing staff or players is not that terrible to me, it's losing games that I have a few issues with.

We went through a similar period in the early 2000s. Carey did the dirty with Stevens, lost Bell to Fremantle, Pickett to Port Adelaide 95% of the 99 premiership retired or gone, Deni$ chasing the dollars down at Carlton... it wasn't the best of times.

But, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Starting to rebuild the side, getting some good young kids into the side, have nobody at the club that doesn't want to be at the club and slowly but surely getting the off-field stuff sorted out.

In a year or two you probably wont really remember all the drama.

Thanks for those words of wisdom Tas.
There are some who think the sky is falling in and cant see the need for a lot of the changes. I think we are heading for a tough time leading into an exciting new era.

I would not call this a horrible rebuilding phase, considering the ammount of injuries we stayed off the bottom.

Players will leave, and so will coaches, when the team is not settled as ours is not. Stop with the panick.

Who are the likely replacements?

Leppa will be one.
The other you would probably want from an outside source.
Better off with someone that has had experience elsewhere may bring in some new approaches & freshen up the coaching panel a little.

Barry Mitchell - unikely to stay at Carlton
Geelong will be turning some over.
A guy like Rohan Welsh - coached Oakleigh Under 18s to the TAC Flag.
Otherwise the retirees may be looked at, but having one in Leppa you may not want more than one. Maybe someone from the QAFL.
There is plenty out there, certainly no catastrophe.

They mentioned on SEN radio yesterday, that the Lions were looking at Rohan Smith from the Bulldogs for an assitant coaching position. I think he would be great for us.

Agreed he would be outstanding.
Young family maybe reluctant to leave, but would be ideal.

I think I read that Smith has family commitments in melbourne.

Why in hecks name would we want Mitchell. He backstabbed their coach.A real destabiliseing influence if you ask me.

Why not Horse or Bond.Excellent assistants aleady, not training up a newbie.

Horse will coach the Saints.
Bond may be worthwhile.

Mitchell was asked to present to the Carlton Board & he did. If asked to do so most would do the same, given its there profession.
There is more to the Carlton story than meets the eye & but Mitchell is likely to be the one that gets chopped. Did an outstanding job with the Northern Bullants & would certainly be looked at.

Carey maybe for the forwards?

Apparently Duck didnt tackle the Collingwood job with enthusiasm.

Sounds like they didnt get much value for the money they were paying him.
