But has a club every gone through such a horrible rebuilding phase like we have this year? .

Were you around in 1998?

The sky wasn't falling then.....it had already fallen and had splintered into 5 billions shards and had destroyed our club...never to rise again

By 2001 we had a Premiership ....and then another...and then another.

I'm quite not suggesting a 3-peat in 2009, 2010 and 2011 but one should never throw up one's hands and think it's all too hard.

Things can change very quickly in a few years.

The Eagles and Freo were bumbling around the bottom of the ladder between 2001 and 2003 and the Swans weren't much better until 2003 when they served their "apprenticeship".....thanks to us:D

WE flogged the Crows by 150 in Round 22 of 2004 but now they are a powerhouse and we are crap.

Things can change pretty quickly....stick fat in the bad times and reap the rewards in the good.

Keep the faith.

Nah, i was only 6 in 1998.

Rumour has it that Lynchy has also joined the Swans.

I get the feeling Blakey will be a very good senior coach when his time comes. He seemed to get the absolute maximum out of himself as a player and working under Leigh and Roos will be a very good foundation for him.

With all these job openings maybe we should start sending in our resumes..

And of course with half our list leaving, there's also a few playing spots up for grabs :D

We should be breaking our back to get ex-lions back: Roos, Rossy Lyon, Johnny Blakey - gone for a second time. There will be a Lion mafia coaching around the traps soon just like the Hawk mafia in the 90's.

If thats what your after Tim, what about the Big Bundy?

Matty Rendell (ex Lion & Bear) unlikely to stay now that Grant Thomas has gone. Well renown for his astute footy brain, maybe a chance.

with leppa appointed as a newie we need an experienced assistant ?? but who

If Rehn wasn't new to the Lions as well I would be pushing for a coach with young player development experience however as only Lambert has extensive experience at the moment I think they have to go for an experienced assistant.

I like Bobby's suggestion of Rendell if they can get him out of Melbourne. He has 5 years experience with the Saints under a couple of different coaches and has has been there for the development of a young side.

Rendell supported Thomas, so is on the outer with St Kilda.

we need a player development coach as other clubs have.
Also a plyer welfare manager would be good as well, save the extra work on lamby and marcus.

Since we recently just cut ours due to 'cost cutting', it's unlikely we'll have one.

Good luck to John, did a great job in his time with us.

Just a real changing of the guard at the moment both on and off the field, like all footy clubs this happens in cycles and recruitment of new coaches will be like a breath of fresh air with new thoughts/ ideas etc.

I think it would be good to get a mix of youth and experience in relation to new assistant coaches, Matt Rendell is highly regarded and maybe a good choice. I would like to see a guy like Rohan Smith or Paul Williams perhaps involved.
