Had one of, if not the best game of his short career tonight. Had about 20 possessions, including 9 in the first quarter, and took about 10 marks which helped see the Legs to a 6 point nail biter. He was brilliant all over the ground tonight, dropping back and taking a few saving marks in defence. He really stood up and put in a great performance. He's surely edging Clarke in the pecking order, can’t believe the disparity in talent even at Meesen’s young age.

We pick up the paper in the morning and we find out Meesen had 10 touches, 3 marks and 5 hitouts :p

Stole my thunder Stiffy!! :D

I was going to add "and not in the best players"!! :p

Meesen is building though, and that's a good thing for him and us. :thumbsu:

Take your hand off it and stop hyping the poor kid... he's got enough pressure being our highest pick in recent times and all.
Stop tying to knock my credibility, how about going to the games and then you may realise that he’s as good as what I say. He was great tonight, but I'm not allowed to comment beacuse I'm putting too much pressure on him? Please.

Ive been to SANFL games before, ive seen Meeson play. I also watch the televised game every week since theres no other footy on saturdays, and can form a pretty good opinion of him based on these. Your credibility on issues involving Meesen, or our ruck divison isnt exactly flying high anyway. You run around declaring the second coming of christ in Meeson every time he gets a kick. I get it, you like him.

Starting threads like 'John Meeson- Champion', when he isnt regularly in the best for his SANFL side is a severe case of jumping the gun. Ive done the research, the SANFL site has put Meesen in Norwoods best twice so far this year. Thats not champion level yet pal.

Whats annoying is the way that just about every post i read of yours is directed at the same agenda, trying to bag Clarke, and promote your favourite Meeson. I also hope Meeson turns out to be a great player, but your campaign is irritating, stop trying to discredit Clarke at every opportunity.

Woah! Anyway I just don’t see how you can honestly put down my opinion on Meesen when you’ve seen him probably 2 or 3 times this season, and maybe a few more times last season. I saw him play last season and he was a big young lad who really struggled. Struggled to win a tap, struggled to kick more than 40-45 metres and rarely had an impact. He was down on confidence, got dropped to the reserves then injured his knee.

Then you look at his this season and it’s just awesome to see the rapid improvement. He’s now one of the more important players in our team. At the start of the season he started on the bench and was second to Tim Nicholas. Three months later and Nicholas is in the reserves and Meesen is our leading ruckman and having to basically ruck the entire game. 19 years old carrying the ruck duties, not a bad effort. Week after week he improves; he’s a massive precence on the ground, always filling the hole in defence, always running the wings or in the middle to make an option. Had about 20 possessions tonight and probably would’ve taken 10 marks.

You’re correct; I do try and discredit Clarke quite often. But you know what I find annoying? How high everyone seems to rate Matthew Clarke. That’s what ticks me off.

I dont give weight to your opinion on this issue because i think you are far from objective. If you were able to look past your hatred of Clarke and give an accurate description of Meesens performance, without the rose coloured glasses, then you would be more credible.

I think you almost reach honest appraisal at some point in your post. See, the reality is that Meesen is a ruckman who struggled last year and this year has improved to the point that he has almost become a travelling emergency for a team which is hit hard by injury. That is the accurate depiction of the situation.

For the record, Meesen is not overtaking Clarke in the ruckman pecking order... the order for this year atleast is:-

1. Rhett Biglands
2. Hudson (injured)
3. Clarke (injured)
4. Maric
5. Meeson
etc.

Clarke when fit still takes his spot over Maric. If you watched the Saint Kilda game you may have noticed that Maric was pushed off the ruck contest a little too easily by big Rix. An experienced tap ruckman like Clarke is worth his weight in gold for the opportunities he can provide our midfield. Maric, if he is to continue his apprenticeship will either have to wait for more injury forced opportunities, or possibly play as part of a three man ruck team (i dont think this is a bad idea at all, it was how Hudson was blooded) with Biglands and Clarke. Either way he is way ahead of Maric in terms of selection.

Fair call mate.

Do I overrate Meesen? Without doubt. But do people overrate Clarke? For sure. I know Clarke is a good tap ruckman, and I know he gives the midfield good use. But I don’t think he’s as good as people declare. Last year when he came back into the side he was comprehensively beaten by Cox in the Preliminary Final, as he was earlier in the year against him. He is exploited by opposition ruckmen that are good around the ground, such as a Cox, Simmonds or Lade. As I said he’s a good tap ruckman, but I don’t know whether its enough because I think we’ll be really hurt when he has to face Cox or White.

Im glad you can admit that you overrate the Meese, and have a lets kill Clarke campaign going. I guess ill have nothing left to do but punch the table in frustration when you start a thread saying 'John Meesen- Almost van Berlo'. :D

As for the Prelim Final, ill admit it, ive burned those images out of my brain for good. However if my recollection is correct when we were going well in the last quarter it was taking Clarke off which spelled the end of our comeback.

If Drummond is right with those stats the Meese must be released soon.

Another two or three weeks of good sustained form should see him get a spot on the bench.

Wouln't it be good for a first draft pick under pick 10 to get some gametime.

STFU, Drummond is allowed to be excited for John Meesen development rate just as you’re allowed to support hacks like Scott Stevens. It’s simply your prerogative to support whom ever you like and pump there tyres up as much as you like.

John Meesen is going to have a very bright future (where he plays his football) the same can not be said for Scott Stevens.

Drummonds football credibility >>>>Daylight >>>> Southerntakeover football credibility.

Thanks for the info Drummond, even if it was a bit askew :D

Ahhh and yet another BigFooty feud/grudge begins.

This Drummond / Meeson "man-love" thing is getting scary.....

...but thanks for the update Drummond...:thumbsu: :)

I just have one question......

Is there enough room for 2 supermen in one club ?....Surely The Van Berlo will be interested to hear he has an apprentice in the world domination stakes.

Meese should be named as an Emergency for the Geelong game as well.

Also there is a player going in the 2006 draft called Nick Meese. Let's pick him up.

Then we'll have Meesen and Meese.

Seriously Drummond, if you want to support Meesen, even with a bit of exaggeration, that's okay in my book. Nothing wrong with enthusiasm. :thumbsu:

Where you do go astray though IMO, is that you constantly talk about Clarke as if he has NFI about playing footy, whereas the rest of the footy world will say that Clarke is one of the best tap ruckmen going around and has been for many years. We got smashed in ruck by St Kilda on Friday without him against a very weak ruck set-up. This is probably his last year and if we are to win a flag, Clarke will play a vital part in that.

So by all means keep up the support for the Meese, but just take a more balanced view on Clarke. :thumbsu:
