Does anyone have info on Jolly and how serious is this knee injury that is being reported.

Rumour has it that he was sighted at a well known surgeons clinic.

Unless it's David Young at The Avenue, I'm not that concerned. He did however look a little ginger in the second half of the last quarter after a landing/collision. My initial thoughts were "Oh No" when he signalled to the bench, but as he didn;t come off I just thought it was cramp.

Missed round 4 with tendonitis in his knee. May just be some swelling around the bursa.

If it was very serious, I imagine they wouldn't have brought him back for ANZAC Day. Personally I want to see Wood knock some fools out this weekend, needs to get a bit aggro and fire up.

Pretty much the above, more so he wouldn't have dominated three men. I think he obviously has some soreness he has to manage but with the bye next week and the dogs minus Hudson it is another good chance to see what Wood has.

There is the possibility that he goes in for a scope, with the bye coming up after the Dogs game he'd only miss a few extra weeks. Not ideal but better to get such stuff out the way now than worry about it in September. Not that I have any inside knowledge whatsoever when it comes to Jols though.

If he needs a clean up nows the time. Off this week bye the next may miss Geelong back for Adelaide or even give him that off to. Far to important to lose at the end of the year.

I see where you are coming from but he doesn't excute it very well. Gives away stupid frees when he thinks he needs to put a bit of body on the line. Against Richmond he gave away a couple of bad frees in the middle. Would love for him and Leroy to serve it up to the dogs. They've got a few guys who go missing when the heat's on.

None of us have any idea how bad Jolly's knee is but if any of us don't have all our fingers crossed can you please do so now. We desperately need him firing come finals. Meanwhile I am happy to give Wood games so the odd week or two here and there doesn't bother me IF we are being concervative with him. I'd love to see Wood get some confidence with a good game. I still reckon he can ruck but he certainly lacks any consitency. Generally ruckman need to ruck though, rather than stand up forward or worse sit on the bench. He was far from inspiring when he got a chance v Richmond though.

I'm with the sampler any surgery would be a scope because they wouldn't have played him on Monday if it were serious. But I'd even be surprised if he needed that because he would've had it already.

So him missing this week is in all likelihood just a management issue, especially because we need to know more emphatically if Wood is up to it when the whips are cracking if Jolly is felled by something more serious.

it is time for wood to seize his chance. he can play and now is his time

Spot On he is 24 so he needs to show he can play as the Number 1 Ruckman

I would think that with the bye next week this would be a good chance to give him a rest for a couple of weeks.

Another chance for Wood to show something hopefully he will:thumbsu:

I'm thinking the same thing. I think its smart to give him a week off around the bye for the additional rest. By doing it before the bye it gives the club the option of making it a 3 week break (missing just 2 games) if they think he needs it. Smart work.

With Hudson out the decision feels a bit smarter as Wood v Minson should be a fairly even contest in the ruck.

Yep, would love to see him show some aggression and use his weight to advantage.

I wouldn't be against this, especially if it is tendonitis in his knee like sore plums said. No good struggling through the season and being 75% fit for final, get it rested and looked at now. If ICRC Kurt Tippett had tendonitis in his knee last year and continued to play despite it clearly hindering him. Didn't work out well for Adelaide or himself.

SURGERY CONFIRMED.:(

Collingwood's injured ruckman Darren Jolly had arthroscopic surgery on Thursday and is likely to be out of action until after the round eight game against Geelong.
The 29-year-old has already been forced out of Sunday's game against the Western Bulldogs and missed the round four win against Richmond with the same injury.

Not much chance of him playing against Geelong, which basically means we should not rush him back at all, round 9 or 10 should be marked for his return.

Damn. The ruck is one area in which our depth is limited... That is why Jolly is the most important player in the team...

I have doubts about Wood, but I hope he proves me wrong.

Gives Wood a chance to stake his claim for a spot. Winning gives us the option to rest players and get them right for finals. If we can get over the next two games with a win then we are set for top two and thats all we need.

I have confidence in Woody, he seems a lot stronger this year and playing 2-3games in a row should let him get used to AFL level again.

Have faith people.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to seeing how Ceglar goes in the VFL tomorrow as he's probably our best ruck replacement if Wood gets injured. Keefe isn't a ruckman and McNamara still has a long way to go. If Ceglar gets thrown in the deepend for 1 or 2 games it won't do him any harm.

I always wanted Jolly and Wood to play together so I could yell JOLLYWOOOOOOD. Alas, I'll just be yelling WOOOOOOD for the next couple. If Wood can show improvement around the ground in the next few games, any chance he pushes for Leroy's spot? I'm moderately excited to see Wood get some consecutive games, needed to happen!

That's actually very good news because it almost certainly means that the problem was minor
( given he'd already played with the injury, which also suggests it wasn't major)

Likely a minor cartilage ( meniscus) tear or else the articular cartilage ( like the enamel over the bones in the joint) may have been a bit scuffed up, which would have just needed trimming and smoothing off. Occasionally there's a loose body floating around ( usually a chip of the articular cartilage that broke away) which can get into the joint mechanism and is usually easily removed.

Usually you'd expect him back in 2-3 weeks in any of the above circumstances.

So he'll miss Dogs and the bye, 50/50 v Geelong.

Much better than say patellar trendinitis, which people who jump a lot get, and could have taken ages to settle down.

V happy to hear that, as on the balance of probabilities he'll be back to 100% in three weeks or so.

The positives out of this are that Jolly will hopefully come back 100% fit and ready to go, and have no more problems with the knee this season.

Also we get 2 more chances (at least) to see Wood against fairly good opposition, although Hudson is out this week, which helps him a bit.

Watching Wood against the Dogs and Geelong will give us a greater indication as to how much of a difference Jolly makes to our side.
