We all have a mate called Jonno, perhaps yours complains that his has an 'h' in his name and is Johnno, or maybe even the more avant garde version of Jonny is the one you know. It might also just be Stan. I'll explain further. Over the last few years since discussing with Jonno our differences of opinion on who should be picked for the weekend, I've developed what I call the Fremantle Dockers 'Jonno's 22'. This is a collection of our players from over the years that imbue each of our own 'Jonno's' feelings towards the weekly team sheet. We all have one of these much loved, but also much maligned people in our lives.

You see Jonno, or Jumping Jonno as we sometimes call him over a few cold beverages, is one of these supporters that likes a battler. He likes a player who against the odds, manages to rack up first team games without a touch, go through dozens of long term injury rehabilitations and exhibit unfathomable potential. Criteria however, is not limited to these suitabilities. You'll see the pattern I'm sure. If you saw his DreamTeam this year then you'd also see this pattern continue.

In painstakingly compiling my 'Jonno's 22' list over three years of research and intensive work, I've ensured that all players are in a reasonably realistic position similar to that in which they played for us.

FB: Bond Carroll Gale
HB: Siegert Fewster Harding
C: Delaney Hinkley Walker
HF: Woods Metropolis B.Dodd
FF: Bandy Schell Murphy

R: Burton T.Longmuir Dunn

I: Browne Haines Drum Campbell

What would be your Jonno's 22?

Nice effort. The only issue I have with Jonno is that Jimmy Walker actually played 151 games for Freo, and is a Life Member of the club, which doesn't really sit too well with the "underdog / battler" tag. I suppose he did all this "against the odds" as he was not recognised as one with bucketloads of talent/strength/courage... so maybe Jonno got it right after all. ;)

I actually forgot to name Walker as my team's captain. True story. :) I appreciate the efforts of all ex-Freo players (not including Jeff White), but Jimmy shouldn't have made 50, let alone 150+.

McManus would have to be captain surely.

228 games of pure battler-ness. The epitome of our early battler days.

swap Walker for Webster, p'haps?

Maybe could consider Hadrill as well.

Walker is pretty much what Jonno's 22 is about in my eyes. The Drill came good playing full back at the end there before career ending injury, so I personally wouldn't include him.

Yeah, but McManus was a better playing battler, although I'm sure some of his haters would still be lurking out there. :) These guys battled with lack of talent more than anything else. Some just never exhibited the talent they had.

I think any player that left Freo to play for the weags should not be entitled to be named in Jonno's team. Come to think of it, I also have issues with Metropolis too, so it's not just the Freo --> Weagle thing that bothers me. Just altogether too tainted...

(Disclaimer: D.Kickett is excempt cos he was able to rid himself of the stench of weag by playing for other clubs before establishing himself as a Freo legend).

Has anyone mentioned Scott Gooch? Neesham said that no one knew whether he was any good because no one had ever seen him play.

Some good suggestions! Would love to see a full Jonno's 22 written up by someone though. :)
