Form aside, watching what ruckmen get away with in every other game makes me wonder what Sweet has done to the umpiring department. He gets called for stuff that gets routinely let go in any other game.

Agreed Ford, other ruckmen particularly at boundary throw ins can take turns at throwing each other out of the way and it's called play on more often than not, while Sweet is getting regularly pinged for the some of the basic jostling stuff that happens multiple times per qtr in most games.

It definitely appears to have effected his confidence and he needs a run in the magoos where he should dominate, and once again we have an issue where other clubs would at least be asking the question of the AFL as to why their player is being adjudicated differently to most others, but I won't be holding my breath waiting that to happen at Alberton.

As for the showdown I'm a huge fan of what Visentini can become, but at this stage of his career I believe the crow's bloke may be too big and powerful for him if he is selected as the stand alone banana, but I would have no problem with him being part of a two pronged ruck set up with another genuine ruckman.

Which leaves us with Soldo as the 3rd cab off the rank, his sanfl form is currently so bad we could have recruited a lookalike who had never played the game before, and he should probably be zero chance of being selected but stranger things have happened and he has to be a much better player than what he has shown so far this season, and if he can somehow get the message that his AFL career is very much at the cross roads, hopefully he could perform at an acceptable level.

Have been watching Soldo closely and have seen signs that his form and fitness is starting to return. He has a long way to go but he is starting to move with more fluidity and freedom.. He has had a number of knee ops and looks like he is finally starting to get back to a reasonable fitness level.

Dante is actually a little taller than O'Brien. Dantes core strength is very good.

I'd be pretty comfortable we've more to gain giving Dante a run.

Was this written by a toddler?

Dante...is quite good. Dante...is strong. Dante...is tall.

I think we should play...Dante.

The point is Dante is physically more than capable of matching O'Brien.
No he's not.

Obrien would monster him for strength.

Whether Dante can make up for that with leap and mobility and around the ground impact would be the question.

In 2 years the answer will be absolutely.

Right now it's 50:50 IMO. Which is probably better than playing Sweet..

Well done to Schulzy for his aggressive anti-Sweet stance. Hes been right all along

Shame on the other guy.
That's the thing.

No one has any shame anymore.

People say some of the most moronic things and are told how moronic they are and if they had shame, they would stop but they don't and then reality hits and they're a moron.

The wonders of social media and the anonymity of the internet.

On this, I reckon Sweet's form dip coincided with the atrociously biased umpiring he copped in the second half when up against Meek. He lost confidence and can't attack the contest with the vigour other rucks (his opponents) can. I know I am a broken record but this league is in no way professional or legitimate. It is contrived and corrupt.

Sweet is very competitive in the ruck, only Witts has a higher win percentage. What needs to change is how much latitude he gives his opponent around the ground. English was thrashed in the hit outs against Sweet but he was used a lot more by his team mates than Sweet who got caught between covering the spaces he was assigned and actually keeping a check on where his opponent was. Sweet is still learning at AFL and needs to be backed in still in my opinion. The coaches need to clarify with him how best to avoid what happened with English and Xerri the week before. Visentini has a lot to like about him but has he proven himself as being better at restricting the more mobile rucks of the comp? Not when I have seen him play at AFL. It would be a big risk to not pick Sweet against O'Brein whom he bettered in the last showdown.

You are genuinely simple.

I suggest re-reading the last few pages.

Still very inexperienced. Is in the prime age that rucks start to stamp themselves on the comp.

Seems a bit banged up and lacking confidence. Never had amazing connection with the mids, it’s the area that Soldo had over him.

Would back him in and keep him there. Try and simplify it for him. Let him get some confidence again and then try and add strings to his bow.

Good. Soldo moving well is a better option than Sweet.

Haven't heard anything about Sweet and id call bull shit tbh. He's literally a die hard Port fan since he was a kid and clearly wanted to get back home and to Port.
I can assure you being a Port fan weighed in about 1% to Sweet's decision making. The other 99% was the chance to lead the ruck for the next few years at least.

I don't know where his head's at now, but if he thinks his spot is at risk due to Vis' development it would not surprise me one iota to see him on the move.

Fight for your spot, or GTFO !!

Where is he going to be first ruck though?

I should probably qualify, that he might be willing to fight for his spot, but he may (and I'm purely speculating here) have also been told the club don't see him carrying the ruck division going forward. Makes it a lot tougher to fight back from there, and may be intentional on the club if they think they can offload him for decent value.

May not be guaranteed first ruck, but some clubs may offer a two ruck setup, or somewhere like a Melbourne may be planning to wind down Gawn's ruck minutes, etc.
