Is the difference;

SOUNDS pretty damning = what you’ve heard is damning but you aren’t 100% sure

IS pretty damning = you know for sure

??

It means he has no idea but thought he’d take the opportunity to have a swing anyway, on the off chance that he might be right.

Brace yourselves for an average game from Josh this week. All the hype and extra attention on the field will weigh him down for this week.

I will have my Arse parked front and centre tomorrow night to continue to watch the Daicos show. My 1st year of VFL football in 81. Daicos was insane. Except for his Injuries, he would have been all time great and is still almost recognised as that. 97 goals in a premiership year as a small forward/ mid is unheard of in any era. Enough said. Peter Daicos was, is and always will be my favorite player. Josh is improving and I hope Nicks hype is correct, because I recall Neville Shaw was meant to be the best, but talent alone never works..ask Kink and Carmen
Kink yes but I wouldn't include Carmen in that conversation. Temperament is what he lacked, but talent alone did pretty much work for him.

Brain is what Carmen lacked but OMFG what a player when his head was on straight.
Whenever I hear people who saw Carmen live talk about him it sounds almost mythical. My dad still maintains that he had the most gifts he'd ever seen on the footy field

There was literally nothing he couldn't do. But as has been mentioned. he did not posses a brain, and that cost us dearly.

He was neither super tall or exceptionally powerfully built, but had silky skills and was an absolute match winner. If only his ability to control his emotions matched his football ability.

Put a claiming apprentice on him you reckon?

Best player I ever saw, bar none. I was there the day he kicked 11 against the saints at Moorabbin. The most complete game of footy I have ever seen from a player.

I was at Waverley that day (as a VFL park member we mostly went to that ground to watch whoever was playing). I remember listening to the game review in the car park / traffic jam on the way home..... reviewing Carmans 11 and George’s Young’s 9 at the other end.

If Neville Shaw was meant to be the best brother, I don’t recall hearing that. But I do recall Brayden Shaw was meant to be better than his cousins. In fact he was taken before Heater in the same draft.

Tony always says that Neville had the most talent of the 3 brothers.

I always felt the second generation of Shaws mirrored the first.

Ray = Rhyce - rated decently as youngsters, suffered multiple GF losses with the Pies, finished at Collingwood by the age of 27. Finally had premiership success elsewhere (Ray as Captain-Coach of Preston, Rhyce with the Swans)
Tony = Heath - not rated as youngsters (Tony initially rejected as too short and slow for VFL, Heath was almost not selected because the F/S rules of the day meant we effectively needed to use a second round pick and this was seen as too much), starred in a Premiership for the Pies, played over 300 games.
Neville = Brayden - rated best of their family generation, never fully realised their dreams at Collingwood

Nev WAS talked up that way (by his brothers too which was amazing because those two were so competitive). Neville was bigger built, faster and dual sided. BUT he didn't have the drive to keep training and when times got tough, Nev was gone.

In his first year at Collingwood, he missed 8 games due to a broken ankle(?) sustained in a State match played half way during the year.
In that year, he polled 17 Brownlow votes from the 14 games he played - 5 x 3 votes, 2 x 1 votes. He finished 3 votes short of the winner (G Dempsey).
All from the CHF position, kicking 41 goals for the year.
He really burst onto the scene. An explosive, talented player, only matched by his brain fades.

His unrivaled endurance capability blended with god-given footy talent was a really unfair combination. Had to be a draw-back somewhere, it just happened to be his brain sadly.

I've heard opposition supporters (including a Fitzroy bloke who hated us) say the same. Carman was potentially the GOAT.
