But that's what I don't understand. If you read the post I said I was playing Devil's advocate. In other words I didn't even state an opinion or viewpoint so I'm confused as to how you pulled one out of nowhere?

Does being Devil's advocate mean you can say whatever you want? Sorry if I read your post wrong, but to me, it reads as if you (or the devil) are suggesting that aboriginal kids are nominating for the draft without any consideration of what it means to be a professional athlete. The devil seems naive and racist to me.

I didn't say that everyone who thinks Josh is soft is racist. I think that's mostly ignorance and jealousy. But, if you keep an eye out, I think you'll find there's plenty of subtle racism in this thread. Check out post #1201 at the top of page 49 as just one example.

Holy crap, you think this post is subtle racism?:

I agree. But just to play Devil's advocate; before they put their name in the draft they should think about what is expected of them if they're drafted, because no one forces them to be on an AFL list. And of coarse there should be more AFL aid in determining if it's the right option for them. And then helping them adjust if they're drafted.

The AFL really is behind in this issue.

If you genuinely believe there is even a shred of racism in that post, you have serious issues. Seek help.

First of all, even if someone holds that view how does that make them racist? Seriously, it's like a witch hunt. Secondly I agreed with Silent Alarm's view. What the hell?

You are seeing things that are not there.

Carn Rip, you think this comment is targetted at all kids of all backgrounds?

"before they put their name in the draft they should think about what is expected of them if they're drafted, because no one forces them to be on an AFL list."

Why not? We have had plenty of Wadulas that have run off the rails. It is actually you that pointing out the race.

Which is pretty much exactly what Chris Lewis said a couple of days ago. Direct quote:

"I just think clubs need to be more aware of the hazards they might face and have a few more things in place for what may happen, so they can go about rectifying the problems"

What a disgusting racist he is.

Dude, you're making a judgment based on "their" race. You didn't say 'kids need to consider what is expected of them', you said ' "they" need to consider what is expected of them. As if they hadn't! As if indigenous kids assume playing AFL is going to be all sunshine and roses! That is textbook racism. It's not vilification. It's not violent. But it's the exact thing that indigenous people deal with in this country every time they apply for a job.

No Rob. Lewis said the AFL need to be aware of the hazards - that is increasing cultural awareness. Yakka said they need to think about what is expected of them - that is insulting. What 18 year old kid on the planet would assume being a professional athlete is easy?

It's nothing to with their colour you idiot. It has to do with the massive cultural divide, the difficulty with adapting and putting their Football first. Things which are obviously difficult as shown by the reduction in the number of Aboriginals drafted and retained on club lists.

Oh, I will and I am.
Not in that post that I could see.

I wasn't talking about that post, however I could see how it could be seen as such, but I'm happy to give Yakka a break, (we have just started snogging again ;)) but there is a truckload elsewhere.

An absolute road train full of it.

No, that's not correct Rip. Silent Alarm posted a quote from Chris Lewis talking about indigenous kids. Yakka responded with the generalisation. I merely pointed it out .

Clearly you don't know many 18 year olds. The bulk of them think their biggest problem is only having mid strength beer in the fridge. I sure as hell did at that age.

And I also agreed with Silent Alarms's view and said that the AFL need protocols in place to help them. Which is the same as what Lewis said.

Phew...

Bro, I think that you might have got this one a little wrong.

Maybe the language was a little "clumsy", but I don't believe that there was any intent at all.

Yakka and I have had our issues in the past, but not on this occasion imo

:) ;)

Fair enough, mate. I apologse if I have misconstrued your post. But you might want to think about how you post may be interptreted. Playing devils' advocate seems a bit like saying, "I'm not racist but..."

Most of them I would assume. It's all beer and groupies and adoration of big crowds and lunches in the cafe strip after training with all your mates.

I actually said above that I don't think it was intentional.
