westcoast,barcelona
1. GC: David Swallow
Reason Why: The complete package. No weakness is just as good offensively as defensively, works hard inside and can be damaging if given space, massive tank allows him to cover ground well to shake tags and always seems to find the most hurt factor in making a decision.
Player comparisons: Simon Black,Joel Sellwood,Andrew Swallow.
2. GC: Sam Day
Reason Why: The most outstanding athlete to perhaps ever play the game, able to hold down any key position and his leap even allows him to ruck. Sam's only now decided to deticate himself to footy and thats a scary thought for the rest of the competition because the upside is huge in him. Could be spoken in the same breath as Carey,Brown,Franklin,Riewoldt with in a few years,is super quick for a player his size and will take many hangers through out his career.
Player Comparisons: Nick Riewoldt,Kurt Tippett.
3. GC Harley Bennell
Reason Why: The larke medallist is a super quick wingman/hbf has great awarenes of whats going on around him, knows how to find space and provides run and carry, knows where the goals are and will win games off his own boot in the future.
Player Comparisons: Daniel Wells
4. WC Andrew Gaff
Reason Why: West coast need midfielders with pin point disposal and you need look no further then Gaff, the ultimate professional just the way he conducts himself on and off the field is a credit to the kid, trains just as hard as he plays and will provide the eagles with the link up man they need moving the ball into the forward line. Gaff is a ball magnet who on the open spaces of paterson's stadium could rack up big numbers with the gut running he does, super quick nothing to flashy just gets the job done safe pick for a 200 gamer.
Player Comparisons: Luke Power,Marc Murphy,Ben Cousins.
5. BL Jared Polec
Reason Why: Brisbane are warming to the thought of selecting Polec here over Heppell and its not hard to see why. Polec is a super quick midfielder who can find the goals regulary, with the loss of Sherman and Richa in the midfield Polec would step straight in and provide much needed run and carry and would complement the likes of Rich, excels with the ballin hand and is a penatrating kick who can clear zones with ease.
Player Comparisons: Stephen Hill.
6. Rich Dyson Heppell
Reason Why: Richmond will select either of Heppell or Polec here, theres been talk of Conca but i think Heppell will be to good to pass up on,an ever reliable hbf/midfielder who sets up play with smart decisions and a booming kick, amasses plenty of it by being blessed with the ability to read the play before it happens, joint winner of the clean hands at the combine speaks for itself, will forge a very ominus midfield the tigers have built over the past few years in Cotchin,Martin and add Heppell and exciting times are ahead for the yellow and black.
Player Comparisons: Luke Hodge,Brandon Goddard.
7. GC Josh Caddy
Reason Why: Gold Coast will look to strengthen the midfield at this selection and are beleived to be keen on Caddy over Atley who has a bit of a knock on his footskills,Caddy is a bullocking midfielder who loves the tough stuff, excels at the stoppages with his clearence work and is more then capable up forward, has very clean hands one touch player who surprized every one with his combine 20metre sprint time showing every one he has a clean pair of heels.
Player Comparisons:Mark Ricciuto,Micheal voss.
8. ESS Shaun Atley
Reason Why: Essendon will be tossing up between the likes of Prestia,Gorringe and Atley at selection 8,and will find the pace of Atley to good to refuse he will give the midfield much needed line breaking run which will complement the likes of feeders Watson and McVeigh. Atley plays inside and out,has a good burst of speed off the mark and a good side step to get around opponents with ease, always seems to have that rare ability to have an extra few seconds to make decisions, just needs to become a bit more consistent by foot which over time should improve.
Player Comparisons:Chris Judd,Scott Pendlebury.
9. GC Daniel Gorringe
Reason Why: By far and away the best ruck prospect in the draft, excels at tap work always hits to advantage rather then just trying to win the hitout, has a rovers mentality in that after the ruck duel wont just spectate asif hes done his job, will follow up and become the 6th midfielder,is also very capable up resting forward can take a grab and is deceptively agile for a big man seems to scope balls off the ground and get foot to ball so quick it makes some midfielders look slow.should form a formidable duo with Smith for the suns over the next 10yrs.
Player Comparisons: Dean Cox,Patrick Ryder.
10. GC Tom Lynch
Reason Why: With the suns light on key forwards it seems a given Lynch's name will get read by Clayton at some stage, shot up in height after being a midfield height now an imposing figure with a midfield tank, leads to the ball well has vice like hands and is an accurate kick at goal, and will form the most damaging twin tower pair the game has seen with Day.
Player Comparisons: Nick Riewoldt.
11. GC Reece Conca
Reason Why: Conca is all class so much so he has Richmond considering him at 6,very good attitude and dedicated to working hard to get the best of himself, plays through the midfield and forward,is a beautiful user of the footy has poise does'nt get rushed and has very good awareness,Suns will snap this kid up if overlooked thus far.
Player Comparisons: Daniel Kerr
12. MELB Keiran Harper
Reason Why: Melbourne has been laidened with talent over the past few years all that seems missing is that X factor which Harper brings to the table, has the uncanny ability to do the unthinkable, will float across half forward and provide the dees with spark.
Player Comparisons: Alan Didak
13. GC Jayden Pitt
Reason Why: Pitt is an extreamly versatile wingman with elite kicking skills who fits the Clayton prototype of athletic players around the 6ft 2inch mark with elite kicking skills, always has time on his hands can play anywhere bar key position, very good agility and is good above head.
Player Comparisons: Scott Pendlebury.
14. ADEL Brodie Smith
Reason Why: Smith is an explosive half back/ midfielder who can break away from stoppages with pace and is strong through the core allowing him to shrug tackles, has good foot skills and has leadership qualitys, played some senior footy in the SANFL and did'nt look out of depth,he should play some senior footy for the crows next year and seems the perfect replacement for Goodwin.
Player Comparisons: Chris Judd.
15. GEEL Billie Smedts
Geelong would have been chooseing Smith here but thats all changed now Smedts has slid, boast excellent agility and foot skills, can play all over the ground tho more suited to a half back roll,an ideal replacement for the ageing Milburn.
Player Comparisons: Brett Deledio,Andrew Mackie.
16. PA Scott Lycett
Reason Why: Needs a replacement for the ageing Brogan and being in your own backyard its not hard to find one,Lycett can go forward to great effect, and i can see him playing some afl matches next year.
Player Comparisons: Dean Cox.
17. NM Isaac Smith
Reason Why: Bolter of the draft, this super quick midfielder is a goal kicking machine and will play round one, already well known to the roos playing in the VFL.
Player Comparisons:Andrew Embley.
18. CARL Matt Watson
Reason Why: After overlooking Hurley the blues wont pass up the most ready made defender in the draft this time around,Watson is a great spoiler, massive kick of the ball was all australian center half back and should hold down that for the blues for the next decade.
Player Comparisons: Micheal Hurley.
19. HAW Jed Lamb
Reason Why: Needs more help up forward in the form of a damaging LeCras type and Lamb has all the tools to fill that roll, with the loss of Stokes and Peterson and Rioli spending more time in the midfield Lamb is the perfect choice for the hawks, won the kicking drill at the combine highlighting his deadly accurate boot.
Player Comparisons: Steve Johnson,Mark LeCras.
20. FREM Jack Darling
Reason Why: Jack form has tapered off a bit from last year where he was mooted a top 3 pick, but no one can deny he is still quality and freo would be ova the moon he slid to them, really want Conca but forget it he will be long gone,Darling is the perfect replacement for Pav,a competetive player fantastic contested mark and provides real forward pressure to keep the ball locked in,very team orientated if the fact he will shepard, and do all the one percenters.
Player Comparisons: Aaron Hamill.
21. SYD Seb Tape
Reason Why: Seb a true competitor rarely beaten in one on ones and provides run and carry from defence, uses the ball well and has tremendous leadership qualitys.
Player Comparisons: Matthew Scarlett,Dale Morris.
22. WB Mitch Wallis
Reason Why: Father son pickup and a good one at that plays through the midfield and gets plenty of it,not super quick but has nice use of it by hands.
Player Comparisons: Greg Williams.
23. GEEL Patrick McCarthy
Reason Why: Geelong will look to further blossum their defensive line with Scarlett not going to be around in the next few years McCarthy will add as a much needed replacement, all australian and SA representative can hold down a key defensive post for the next decade.
Player Comparisons: Sam Gilbert.
24. ST. KIL Dion Prestia
Reason Why: Prestia is a tough nut,and will help out Lenny Hayes in getting in and getting the hard ball, has good disposal and can kick goals,is good enough to even crack the team for some games next year.
Player Comparisons: David Rodan.
25. BRIS Josh Green
Reason Why: Were really impressed with this ball winning clearence machine at the combine, that they will select him at this selection hails from tassie this hard working ranga will become a coaches favourite.
Player Comparisons: Todd Banfield.

How did we overlook Hurley?

Pick 5 - Essendon - Michael Hurley
Pick 6 - Carlton- Chris Yarran

See what happened, pick 5 came before pick 6. ;)

Where do you get the idea that Gaff is "super quick" ? At least 9 players had better 20 metre sprint times in testing and at least 10 were above him in repeat sprints. His strengths were shown in the beep test (where he finished second) and in the 3km time trial (1st).

9 players? I dont think so.

Gaff's 20 m sprint pb was 3.07 ranking him equal 46th overall.

I wouldnt be overly concerned about his sprint times sydney eagle. What we would get from Gaff is gut running, endurance, and a bloke that can run out a game. Something we have definately lacked in the last few years

Good effort on the mock draft junior swallow. No real suprise bolters for me in there. Some like Green, Pitt and Lamb could drift out from your selected positions but i'd say that all mentioned players would be gone by pick 30 and no later.

I still think Hawks could prefer the taller key defensive option of Pat McCarthy over Lamb who could slide up to the Lions at pick 25. And Prestia could go anywhere from pick 10 to 24.

Interested in that you've drafted Polec to BL to. Thought Heppell was sold there but maybe you know more than me

Comparing Smith to Judd would have to be a bit far off atm. Unless your comparing him to the drafted Judd of 2001 which is still massive wraps for him. Will be interested in seeing his progress

We have mid sized forwards in Green, Sylvia, Petterd; smalls in Wonaeamirri and Bennell; and X factor with Jurrah.

No thanks.

During the Draft Combine it was reported that Gaff had a sub 3s 20m sprint, it had him in the top 10. It stayed there for quite a while so it isn't suprising people think this.
