In the Ch10 friday news in the other thread, it says the dispute between the FFC and Levi Strauss has been resolved.

flipping well done.

The club now has the balls to go and figure shit out, and get on with the job.

And that is how it should have been done 15 years ago. Well done to the FFC. Love the new jumper, btw.

By having balls I presume you mean when they said yes sir, Mr Levi Strauss sir, we will drop the symbol that we have had since inception from our jumper because you use it on a pair of cargo pants and we promise never to do it again, now may we please use the term Dockers if we pay you enough money, would that be alright?

Yep, ballsy.

I really don't get it. All this was so they could go back to the Dockers name? A name everyone has had no problem with using unofficially, not at all for over 10 years? They've removed the most regonisable symbol any club has had in the league... Actually they haven't it's still part of the logo. Why's that allowed and the jumper isn't? I just hope they do keep the song (as I've mentioned it's one of my guilty pleasures to sing) they don't want to throw their entire identity away, do they?

The new logo sucks compared to they old one, especially the typeface for "Dockers".
The jumpers look nice but they're unoriginal and uninspired, they're just ripped off the identity of the old Freo and claimed it as their own. Fremantle are supposed to have weird jumpers with 4 colours that the rest of the league hates, they've build an identity around being the weird club who does things differently from everyone else. It's sad to see them conform.

This from a Essendon supporter just about sums it up for me.

SOmething the club should have thought about BEFORE naming it as such. BEFORE branding it as such.

$$$ Payout? That's business. Logos, guernseys and branding? Business.

AFL? Yeah. Business. Who woulda thunk it?

The club has, over 16 years, had what - 10 different guernseys? The theme song has been bashed from pillar to post (but I like it), the club has been a 'basketcase', and it is now turning a corner. If this is another step in its' progression, I'm a fan.

I see an anchor. What do you see? A Schooner?

I don't agree with you DM, but I respect where you are coming from. You realise some supporters from 1995 actually like the changes:)

How would you have liked the club to sort out the naming issue ?? storm the Levi Strauss head office ab-sailing from a chinook Chuck Norris style packing AK-47s and force them to permit the club print 'Dockers' on the merch ??;):p

Just drop the shithouse Docker name and go for the FFC label keeping the anchor on the jumper that we've had for 15 years (minus red/green) would've been the best thing to do.

Turning what corner? Sandilands goes down next year, we finish last.

Guernseys don't change on field performances.

The club wasn't responsible for the trade mark debacle, the AFL was.

Business, yes, but membership based. That brings with it certain responsibilities, like treating your members with respect and consulting with them on important issues such as a complete re-branding.

Do you see an anchor on the jumper? No.

Supporters or members? Do they also like the way it was done?

Don't print the term Dockers on the merchandise.

Bingo. The name had to go, and I am now embarassed to endorse it. We actually paid money to be allowed to be named after a pair of cargo pants in preference to retaining our strong identity.

My understanding is there are a number of reasons, including:
Simplicity - The best selling jumpers are simpler (everyone's doing it - new jumpers for us, Melb and Carlton this year).
Sponsorship - better jumper for the sponsor's logo.
Marketing - new jumpers = new revenue

New logo 'might' be to do with Dockers.

I've seen Fremantle's and Melbourne's new guernseys but havent heard anything about Carlton's. Were did this come from? Do you know what changes they are making?

It's a sailboat!

Anyway, we just have to get used to it. I like it but would've rather kept the anchor, it was much derided by outsiders but our home guernsey was sublime.

Gotta laugh at Port supporters saying we copied them. Sure, they're using a design from a Port based club that was around in the 1800s while we came up with the chevrons by giving a 7 year old some crayons.

I personally love the new guerseys, thats not saying that I didn't like the old one's either. I think the idead of the purple shield is a great idea estpecially with the est 1994 at the top. However, I think the rest of the logo will grow on me but I would have put a different anchor on the shield. Remeber the anchors we used to get 3-4 seasons ago? I would have one of them on the shield, white in colour whit the "D" for Dockers removed. I would then change the font of Fremantle Dockers and make it look a bit more modern.

The potential for a great logo is there just need to tinker with a few fonts and sizes and designs and its finishes

It really wasn't too hard.

Not sure exactly, nothing major (still navy blue no doubt). Can't remember where I read it.

Might be changing guernsey manufacturers? They have been with nike for ages so that could be something if they are changing their guernsey it is probably the manufacturer.
