Ive been thinking about this for a while.
he has been great all year with his defensive work and we dont really have a tagger at the moment
would love to see some thoughts
could play a kane kornes type role

Gibbs is already doing that.

Simpson is a guy who implements run into our game. Need him to keep doing what he is doing.

more likely to be gibbs or bentick i reckons!
simpson is more of a running player, i think he probably has bad B.O cus he doesnt ever go near an opponent for long and never will

Simmo is not the right build and we would miss his run

Not in a million years AB - he shouldn't even be tagging in bounces - not what we need from him

Always thought that it was meant to be one of JR's roles

That's where I think JR will be of most use in the future, as a tagger - he's hard at his opponent. I don't think he knows where to intuitively go...he looked completely lost up until half time vs the Dogs.

Looks like he has the right body and can apply good pressure.

I wouldn't think Gibbs would be best utilized as a tagger - we need him on the ball.

Simpson is what I would refer to as "the defencive winger", an attacking player with very good defencive skills. I think our main tagers are Grigg, Carrazzo and Gibbs.

Not so sure that I would call Simmo a tagger. You should always try and utilise your players' strengths, and Simmo should be used on the wng always. Back his pace, break the lines and carry the ball.

I would have thought we'd have enough players on our list to play that run with type role.

The "tagger" role is not so clear cut with the Blues. Most teams have hardcore taggers e.g. Baker, Ling. The Blues have attacking players, who switch between offensive and defensive roles, depending on the stage of the game. Grigg is a classic example. He'll play a tight tagging role on an opponent, but also switch to an attacking role, providing rebound and even kicking goals. Gibbs and Walker do the same. Bannister is probably the closest we have to a pure tagger. What Ratten has done is instill accountability in every player. Simmo is an extremely attacking winger, but he has developed his defensive game nicely under Ratten as well. Defense is not just left to the back-6 now. :)

Carrots is not tight enough, Gibbs is too good, Grigg I forgot - but I hope he might be too good as well :)

If Simmo's gonna do anything it should be work on his kicking to leading forwards, and his running shots on goal (i'm sure he does work on these). If he could do those things better he'd be an elite wingman.
