Sorry to ruffle feathers but IMHO, Kane Johnson:

(1) Should not be played in teh midfield

He is not an in and under player - he is a wing player. I can tell you that Nathan Foley did a much better job in and under yesterday (with only a handful of games experience) than Kane Johnson did. The other aspect to Kane Johnson is that he doesnt seem to be able to read ruckmans tap outs and therefore always seems to be left behind.

(2) SHould not be captain

Joel Bowden should!! THis season and last season, Joel has been inspirational and has consistently beaten opponents taller and heavier than himself. He is also brilliant at marshalling the troops in teh backline and is Richmond through and through.

The team is in a tough situation with Kane Johnson because it only just appointed him the position. However, the decision needs to be made in the best interests of the club. Kane Johnson is a good player. He is not an inspiring player!

Isn't it typical of us Richmond supporters, bagging some blokes after one bad year, calling others champions after one good year.

People all seem to forget that Johnson actually EARNT the position of captain through 3 years of back to back consistent high level performance. Something no other player in our team had done.

Kane won't be in the midfield as much, as soon as the other players step up enough to force him out. Until the younger players develop enough though, he is a better option, despite how much people on here like to bag him out. He did a lot of good things against the Hawks, I thought his last quarter was very good.

Inspiration for mine isn't always about kicking a 70 yard torp, making the blistering burst or taking a screamer. He led by example yesterday in second half, some of which to me was bloody inspirational. Whilst he didnt do anything extraordinary footy wise the young blokes in the midfield fed of his lead. They need someone to follow to learn from and I don't see who we have that fits that bill at present for next season other than Kane especially with Campbell gone.

the one thing Suga does well is, when we are pressing he gets involved big time as the middle pin recieve, coming out of the back line, something akin to a Leon Cameron. The probelm is that when it was Leon, although his kicking skills were superior, there were more forwards presenting and presenting with authority, so he had a choice if the Richo option was teh usual 2/3 on 1. Although much maligned, the one thing cement legs Holland offered was a pretty strong marking option too, although also I punched the sky when it was official that he no longer was goign to wear the yellow and black.
Simmo hasnt had the best of years when talking marks that stick in the forward line, Staff hasnt had the best of years period, through injury and supsension, which leaves Pet, who contiues to lead into non effective positions on the FL, and also hasnt the pace to get the 2/ 3 meter break on his man.
This causes confusion to the ball carrier, hence hesitation, hence rushed kicks, hence target missing, especially for a guy like Suga who for most of his career had the cream of the crop to delver to in a Crows FL.

I'd like a bit of respect shown here for once, Wayne Campbell hasn't even played his last game yet and you've already replaced him with a new scapegoat. The least you could do is give Wayne the respect he deserves and keep him on as Richmond scapegoat #1 for his final game. Then you can move on to someone else.

This observation amuses me.Came to the club and straight away was in the thick of it in the middle.3yrs doing it takes its toll and if you watched yesterdays game in the last qtr he was in and under again[when it was required].

Joel bowden should? Why because he,s Rich Through and Through?Yep thats going to win games for us.Whats so inspiring about Joel?
You ignore Joel,s "Brain fades" which he has at least one per match.

Johno was one of the main reasons for the comback in the last 1/4, sheesh, I don't know why anyone is questioning his efforts and as for a captain, there is no one in the at Richmond who is high profile like a Buckley, Voss, Hird, except for Richo and he has enough to do, especially kicking straight!!

Coughlan will be next captain in a year or two and Deliedio the way he is going who knows, for sure the Rising Star winner for 2005 now after his game yesterday. :D

Terrible isn't it Jezza, he's not even worth a bagging anymore.

Hopefully there'll be a flood of disrespect after the game, with supporters reiterating how he runs on the spot, kicks it sideways, holds play up and how glad they all are that he chose to retire.

Don't forget to mention what a squib he is John and that all his awards mean nothing because he was always playing in a losing team! Ahhh, that feels better, back to normal...

Ahhh its all coming back to me now... squib, award winner in a crap side, back-stabber, walked out on the club, meaningless stat gatherer, contract rapist ...

Let the scapegoating live on!

3 on 3 at the centre bounce, he will get beaten most of the time as he gets lost in traffic.

Every 2nd possesion, Johnson misses his target. His disposal is pretty poor and he's very indecisive. I'd be happy to trade him for a draft pick or a decent KPP. He's the 2nd most mediocre captain behind Vandenberg.

when bowden gets a hard ball can someone please tell me, because as good as he is in defence( he sets it all up), he still doesn't put his head over it. IMO

Cant agree on any of those points do you actually watch Johno play he is always in and under when needed. As much as i love Joel as a player i dont think he is quite captaincy material. Browny or Richo should get role or even Cogs b4 Joel.

!

Not sure about your comments re kane and midfield however Joel has emerged into the player we all hoped in last 2 years...he will win his second B&F by a whisker over tucky and should be annoited as captain

I've heard quite a few people say how they think Bowden will win the B&F this year. Not that I really have an idea about how the B&F will go but for mine Bowden wouldn't be in the top 3. Tuck, Richo and Cogs will all be ahead of him. Have won a lot more contested ball than Bowden and have done so getting heavily tagged most weeks.

Bowden has done a lot of flashy stuff, but has been playing loose man quite a bit, especially in the first half of the year. Don't think he'll get too many votes for the first half of the year.
