Kane Lucas

We are at the stage where we have young players that need game time.

A downside of that is that they make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes cost games.

Id rather see Lucas make a million mistakes now and be better for it when we actually challenge for a flag, than have his development ******ed in the VFL. Same goes with Bell and Cachia.

Development and the fact we actually dont have anyone better at the moment!!

For the same reason that White wasn't? Look at his next 2 performances after the zero disposal game against Brisbane as an example.

This board is funny. Every time the team has a loss, it's time to look for scapegoats.

Players do have off days, and young/inexperienced players have more than others.

No shit! I'm not looking for scapegoats. I'm simply commenting on a player's performances this year.

Had we won on Friday night, I'd be saying the same thing. Lucas has some things to work on.

Sorry BG ... I should have separated my comment about scapegoats from the part where I was replying to your question.

There are many on the board that immediately want to drop players after a loss. I wasn't meaning to single you out.

Anyway, I don't think that dropping Lucas is either necessary or advisable. Some of his efforts to set us up with a handy lead early in the game were good. It's not like he played a stinker. The things you think he needs to "work on" can quite possibly be better worked on in the seniors.

Understand what you're saying and prior to this week, I was of the same opinion, but his lack of pressure at the contest and poor tackling skills aren't getting better IMO.

If he doesn't get dropped then he should be the sub. Tends to have an impact when he is.

I see everybody on here harping on about that missed goal. I've seen far better players than him miss goals like that.

The problem with Kane Lucas is the fact that he can not lay an effing tackle to save himself. It kills us. It's actually got to the point now where I look for his missed tackles. Stats can be misleading me cause u can jump on a pack and be rewarded a tackle. I'm talking about this vital 1 on 1 or loose ball contests. His opponent gathers the ball but Lucas is incapable of tackling him. Happens 5 times a game at least. Costs probably 2 goals on loss of momentum etc. can forgive the skill errors if he improves, but he seriously needs to drink some HTFU

Yes he does & he should continue to work on those things in the senior team, where he still provides more than those outside the 22 who would be competing for his position.

Was thinking along the lines of bringing in Menzel, given we are lacking a medium forward.

31 points up and still lost. Hardly Lucas fault that Essendon had spare men repeatly pop up In our defensive 50. Seriously who was manning up Melksham at the end?

I want to know that too but don't want to watch the replay!

Menzel is not ready to play as a medium forward. He is best suited at this stage to filling in for any one of the 3 amigos when they are not available. When he gets some more size on him, then he will be right to play as a medium forward, pushing up into the midfield, ala Stevie Johnson/Mark Le Cras.

Menzel is going to be a quality player, but if you want a medium forward, our best option at the moment would be Laids, but he would not be taking Lucas' spot in the 22.
