Kane Lucas

I hate how some keep referring to the one miss as his only flaw from the last game. That one miss was bad, but he did plenty of other things wrong too. I personally don't see the benefits at this stage. Send him to the VFL where he can work on his decision making, tackling and composure.

I've personally thought his season has been just ok, whereas plenty here seem to think last week was his first bad game.

Put any player with half a tank in his unaccountable role and they'll rack up 25+ possies a game too, but with better efficiency and results. Sorry to sound so negative, I tried to give him at least 4-5 games early in the season to show his worth but now I think we are waiting for some of his deficiencies to be fixed when they simply won't be in the short term and if they are in the long term, I still don't think they will be that beneficial to the team.

All you are doing is parroting what you have heard others say & then adding this to your own prejudice. Lucas had 1 clanger for the game & a disposal efficiency of 70%. This compares well to Gibbs' 3 clangers & 62% DE; Judd 3 clangers 60% DE;
Garlett 3 clangers 67% DE; Curnow 3 clangers 64% DE.

How do you explain us taking a 14 point lead into the last quarter, kicking the first goal of the last quarter for a 20 point lead & only losing the game in the dying minutes?

The game was not lost as a result of the actions of one player. Those who continue to run this line are showing their ignorance.

You know, using evidence, and all that fancy schmancy facts stuff will not endear you to the BF lynch mob.

Yep. His disposal is fine, needs to lose the hot potato mentality and thump it more often.
If he can start pinpointing 40-50m bullet passes into the forward line he will do fine.

And I agree with the hot potato mentality... he needs to realise that he has more time. And even if he is sort of time, he should wait a second and take the second option.

So who do we replace him with this week?

So you think that we should cut him at the end of the year and get someone else in to do the same job?

Who do you think that we are going to get in to replace him?

What do you think that we will get for him?

Or are you just making noise because you dont like him?

Whilst we're all laying a beatdown on Kane Lucas... can anyone identify for me please who at Carlton DOES have the penetrating run and footskills needed to be an AFL "outside" player?

We're so meat-and-potatoes we have bugger all class and poise.

Sure, say "Yarran". Then say "Gibbs". Then say........?

Murphy and Andrew Walker but they are playing in their best positions at the moment.

"soft, outside player"

I think I stumbled onto the Craig Bradley thread by mistake. :p Braddles had 98 SANFL games to iron out any deficiencies, yet still carried the above tag through 17 seasons at the Blues.

I have faith in you, Kane.

Agree of course on Murphy. He is, however, our answer to everything. Captain, best player, goal kicking inside-outside midfielder who needs to defend more. So, sure, take him as a given.

We've listed 4 guys.

And we're all equally-surprised at the fact that Andrew Walker can kick this year.

So MM our best player, Gibbs our great white hope, Walker having a AA season out of nowhere and Yarran who is still trying to establish his place/role/game at AFL level. It's just not enough. It's not CLOSE to enough.

Also worth noting a pair of pick 1s, a pick 2 and a pick 6. Is there nobody available in the draft after pick 6 who can kick? Or have we just totally missed the boat on the importance of decision-making and footskills?

For a blue-blood team, we are just so totally blue collar and scrappy, and ultimately ineffective. Even our first round winger type drafted specifically to BE an outside player (Lucas) drives us crazy with his lack of poise and iffy footskills.

Hopefully follows a similar path to Walker. Generally average occasionaly very good disposal that develops into generally very good occasionally average disposal.

I still believe Kane can make a mark at Carlton. He can be a contender.

Now let's rock...

You could say the same about Sydney's and Geelong's mids who aren't classicial left footers like the players the Hawks recruit.

Would list Bootsma, Menzel, Tuohy and Buckley with more development.

ROK is cursed.

Not true. He'd well and truly thrown it before he was finished. Maybe around the time people discovered the near impossible gut-running required to play at his level.

I don't think there are teams with a significantl number of better users of the pill than us...moreso we have a greater number of decidedly average disposers of the ball. Judd, Robinson, Curnow, Bell, White, Casboult, Lucas, years past I would have included Garlett and Cachia. Third of a team right there.

Kane is an easy target. It means you dont need to criticise others who also missed or played poor games.

I recall Malcolm Blight also missing by kicking through the worng "gap".

Even Sticks missed the lot to draw a game against the Dons in 1993 (?)

In any case, the reality is that the Blues conceded 8 of the last 10 goals of the game from about half way through the 3rd term.

Is it Fitness? pressure? lack of concentration? lack of leadership when the heat is put on (especially in the last term)?

I am not sure what it is - but Mick saw it first hand on Friday Night.

Nice debut Fitzy.

(far better to rectify this problem during the season rather than being STUNG in the finals (if we indeed make the finals)

Agree wholeheartedly; the DE% of our ball users was a bigger issue than Kane's sitter or Yarrans squibbness.

...we were all frustrated Friday night - especially agains the team that we enjoy beating.

I am more concerned about this week against the Hawks. They have been smashing us physically and psychologically since 2007. The only time we got close, was the in that game where Fev missed his 9 goal from directly in front (around 2008?)

This week, the team needs to stand up BIG TIME. This is one of the most important games for us.

Well said. You should read the match preview. That guy is all over it.

I thought Jeffy's run from the backline, give and goes, and final pass to Waite who goaled qualifies him. Probably play of the day for mine.

If only we could transplant Watson's leg onto all our players.
I've recently seen some of the best 60 metre passes to a man running onto the ball that I've seen in recent years.

Most of our players aren't bad field kicks but when it comes to kicking for goal...........................things go badly awry.
The back-line is quite good now with Jamison, Henderson, Scotland, Simpson Tuohy and Walker more than competent.

Casboult and White are O.K. around the ground and Robinson is a gun at training but just can't nail it where it counts.
Would love to see Bell develop quicker hands as that's where he'll become particularly hand, extracting the ball.

Lucas doesn't really have a full follow-through. Is that because of his hamstring issues or has that always been the case?

Judd and Curnow are just shockers. No redeeming them. :)

Absolutely. 150 metres play, a great little shepherd from Curnow(?) just before the delivery to Waite. Skill, pace, poise and teamwork. Beautiful to watch.

Thought you were talking about our midfield not our team in general. Bootsma, Henderson, Tuohy, White ( When he has time) and even Jamison ( when in form) are all good kicks as well.

Groin injuries. Still has speed, but he looks restricted with his follow through and the ensuing Judd grimace.

Literally has no penetration in his kicking when he is on one of his Juddesque runs. Needs to play within his limitations and start kicking short instead of bombing hail mary's that give us no chance.

Just like the kick to Waites advantage for his 7th to put us back in front late.;)
