North has let go Mark Porter in a shock move! Putting a lot of faith in mcIntosh, Hale and McKernan to carry the workload in 2005.

Not much of a shock, Ports is well past his best and has made a lot out of limited talent. I doubt he'd get picked up again (though you never know, like McKee). Will always give you an honest contest and I think some of the jobs he did were underrated in the past couple of seasons, but he's nothing special.

I was a Porter fan at his time at Carlton. I was sad to see him go. Made the most of limited ability. I remember one piece of ruck play in, I think it was his 1st game against Essendon, Ruck contest - Porter to Bradley - GOAL. Sublime. Good Luck with whatever Ports.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Carlton look very closely at picking him up again. Pagan and the Carlton match-committee know his strengths and weaknesses better than most, and we are thin in the ruck.

It's funny. He was a ruckman, reputedly on a lucrative contract, who hardly got his hand to the ball first at centre bounces and rarely took a grab around the ground yet I feel a little surprised, even saddened, at his delisting. I think that suggests he was a player who you knew was giving his absolute all for the cause and for supporters that counts for a lot.
