This article on Kosi

T IS a well-known fact of urban sociology that St Kilda supporters have a strong masochistic streak. They have had to, of course. All of which is why Justin Koschitzke's two consecutive good games of football against Sydney and Adelaide to start the season will not have caused too much excitement at Moorabbin. They have seen it all before and they know that, generally, it has been around this time that "Kosi" will headbutt a fence, rip a hamstring or belt someone.

And as I was reading it, I was thinking 'hey man. Lay off. I'm on the Kosi train, front and centre. This is the year.' And then I realised that I actually only want to believe that. I secretly think that he is going attempt to high five himself, smack his head, knock himself unconscious and blow his knee out on the way down.

Please, Kosi. Please. Stay fit and tear it up.

I think we all fear that, unfortunately (not that the article is particularly offensive to Saints fans or Kosi) that article is spot on. You'd be a brave/stupid man to suggest Kosi has turned the corner, even if he keeps it up for another 5 or so weeks (I'd probably be waiting for a whole season)

Back on topic, I've been wrapped with Kosi's performances so far. Couldn't have come at a better time either with Riewoldt struggling to have an impact. I was worried that Kosi may have been a spent force as a key forward but he has been superb so far. He has given us a real presence in the forward line, holding his marks, kicking straight and applying some good defensive pressure as well.

Maybe all the trade talk at the end of last season has given him the kick up the bum that he needed. He has always had the talent but his attitude has been questionable at times. I guess having a couple of injury free seasons and a solid pre-season has helped him too.

Hopefully this good run of form isn't another flash in the pan and he can keep it going for the whole season. With Kosi firing, Riewoldt back in form and Milne and Schneider dangerous, our forward line will be a real handful for anyone.

I think the last time we had both Roo and Kosi firing would have been... Against the Dogs last year first time round? When we were up like 50-8 in the first quarter...

Doesn't happen every often heh.

Now come on Roo! Need him to get it together before we play Port and the Dogs.

:D - true. I noticed on friday night close up he is an awkward, awkward player. Like a talented version of myself
on topic - awkward though he is, he can make a spot his own (and that spot was never ruckman) and as far as I am concerned he looks more at home where he is NOW more than ever before.
However, he gives me the "worries" and tis a pity we can't just keep him in cotton wool between games.

Yeah unfortunately they have rarely fired at the same time. Usually Kosi's good form has coincided with Riewoldt being out injured or out of form. They also seem to get in each others way a lot, even Friday night they spoiled each other going for the same mark.

Anyway let's hope they can finally break the trend this season. Having two key forwards firing will make a huge difference and take the pressure off Riewoldt.

I dont want to hear anyone mention the 'I' word and Kosi in the same sentence.
I think Kosi's form may also have a lot to do with Michael Gardiner. Kos doesnt have to rotate through the ruck anymore thanks to MG finding form. Which means he can have a more settled position in the forward line and the more time he spends up there, the better hes gonna become as a FF.
Only thing is it forces Roo up the ground a bit. Which is what I think their working towards but its gona take time for Roo to adjust to his new role. We all know Roo has one of the biggest engines in the league, he'll be better suited running around CHF to centre anyway.

There's going to be tears for mine if we reckon he'll keep producing.

The thing for me is that we've got 6 goals from the Milne/Schneider combination already, 4 from the rucks (who would have thought that) and 8 from midfielders (something we have lacked and makes us less predictable).

Kosi for mine has always done his best work as a follower........he did this for periods against Sydney and Adelaide. His ruck work isn't awesome but he does very well reading the play around the ground. Keep up the great work big fella.

his best work has been done at CHB. i remember a game at the gabba were we got thumped by 80 pts and he keep brown to zip. probably not mobile enough these days.

Besides that little problem he had with awareness that cracked his skull.

Correct. And his forays up the ground are really just for a few minutes to discombobulate the opposition and allow Gardy to nab a goal.

Excellent word selection there Fez man. Again proving that the Saints board is clearly the most articulate on BF.

Does anyone actully believe that we can beat port in adelaide this year?

Hopefully by Rnd 5 Goose and maxy r back in the team and Riewoldt is in form. thats the only way i can see us beating them.

I do, Port are in a bad position this year and the game against the eagles confirmed the suspicitions of "crap" that surfaced when they only beat the bombers by a comfortable margin when they shouldve shellacked them.

I've just found out about some guys who Ross Lyon got to specially train Kosi over the summer break - it explains a lot.

Obviously our purpose in coming here is to contribute positively to the sum of human knowledge. Or to weep, depending on the week.

Have to agree. Find the constant talk of Kosi playing as a permanent forward tiring and wrong. Like it or not, he will be rucking at some stage of the game and leaving him at FF for the majority of the game is a waste of his talent. While his days as main ruck may be over for now, I don't think he is suited as conventional FF. You need to keep the guy involved and part of the play to get the most out of him....

I cant agree with this. He has a massive contested mark on him, one of the best in the league. Anyway we can afford to have him at FF now.
By the way, who is our proper CHB? Fisher?
I'd like to see this as our permanent setup:

FF Milne Kosi Shnider
CHF Gilbert
CHB Rewoldt
MIDFIELD Gram, Goddard, Fisher, Montagna, Ball, DalSanto, Baker, Gwilt

Sure, by all means play him at FF but the days of the traditional full forward are numbered. Palyers do not play traditional positions any longer and anyone who can't play in more than one position in this day and age is doomed. I really don't follow your positioning ideas. Riewoldt at CHB? That's crazy. He is an All Australian CHF. Cheers...

Your right, tradionally Roo is a CHF, I would try him at CHB for an experiment. Cause I'd really like to see Gilbert at CHF or in the centre.
