He is struggling with breaking a tag atm and drifts in out of games. would putting Kerr up agaisnt the oppitions best midfielder help him?????? like when we play geelong Tag Ablett with Kerr. Ablett always fins the ball so that means he will lure Kerry to the ball as well.

Just a suggestion but we need to do something, he is a shadow of the player he was when we had Judd and Cousins. The sole Reason is coz they got tagged not him so he could get plenty of touches and infulence the game.

It can't hurt to try it. It may create a loose man or something.

The real key though, is for other midfielders to be more damaging. We need Selwood, Rosa, Staker and others to set up our forwards for goals and force opposition coaches to spread their defence across players other than just Kerr.

I agree, other mids need to be more offensive. Noticeable yesterday that we went backwards as soon as Selwood started playing in a defensive role in the second half. Has shown enough in the wins against WB and Port (and until 1/2 time yesterday) to suggest he would be more beneficial to the team in an attacking role.

Kerr can and will still be a huge influence in the midfield (as he was against WB).. But when the tags tight or he's out of the game it might occassionally be worth trying him across halfback.. In a role similar to Macleod at Adelaide.. (or Hodge, but he's obviously not as big as Hodge).. Could use his run and carry and set play up..

I think you are both on the mark.

The fact we need other play makers to force the opposition to spread their defensive load on more then one or 2 players is obvious. The problem is we simply do not have any line breaking, game affecting talent available that would force an opposition to bother.

Regarding Kerr as a tagger, I think it has merit. There are so many nuances required to do what the likes of Cousins, Judd, Ablett etc do to break tags. Now I love Kerry but he simply doesn't have the tools. These types of players are born with it. It's the difference between wasting 50% energy leaning into your tag all day at the breakdown and being practically stationary (as Kerr does) and reading the ball up/structure/play and giving one single 80% push off then moving flat out to the correct spot. It's inate, it breaks the tag and only works if you have the ability to read it like the above players can and perform it at the right times. Kerr unfortunately doesn't have that combination of breakdown reading ability and tag breaking smarts. Blocking and positioning by the others only works if Kerr can at least give them a couple of metres to step into, he doesn't.

I think running him with the likes of Ablett and even Judd could be beneficial. I think they will tear him up initially but he needs the learning experience. He'll never be as good as them at it because he doesn't have it naturally but he can definately pick up some idea of whats needed to improve his own abilities to break a tag.

He has some great attributes, we all know that. However he will never be good enough to do as Cousins did for so many years and break tags week in, week out to be our best player with practically no assistance during the "dark years".

People need to stop thinking he can. He can't

Please no

He would get killed by the likes of Cooney, Ablett and Judd.. And Kerr can't even be defensive on his own tagger e.g. Crowley kick a goal on him yesterday and the injuries are having a impact.

IMO, what would be better, Selwood is no longer a tagger. Stenglein and Schofield come back into their side. Both have the ability to shutdown opponents and both bring much more to the side then either Staker and Butler. And yes, I know Stenglein is slow but so Haselby and he bloody kill us yesterday.

It's not about a short term game winning move, obviously he'll get smashed. He needs education! Some may disagree but I still see this season as a learning/ rebuilding year. Lets use it wisely and help Kerr learn how to deal with tags. He has almost no idea.
The only thing he knows is to try and outrun/outlast, which leads to his continuing cramping and throwing up as early as the third. He hasn't got a clue and needs to be taught.

I totally agree, this year's draft is the last one before the GC17 get a platter of quality picks, and in terms of our 2nd tier their still years away from finals footy... their developing.

Interesting article shibb.

WC could turn this into a positive. If Kerr could learn to project that vomit at will, his taggers may not want to get so close to him.

Problem solved.

I think he needs to go back to an in-an-under type role which is where his success came from. He just doesn't have the ability to play as a reciever right now. Also you can't really tag the in-an under player.

What about playing Kerr in the roll that Sammy Mitchell is playing ATM same size good tackler and can use the Footy well takes him out of the heat and gives him space to run and provide for us , something to thing about....

The thing is take Kerr out of our midfield and we will get smashed. We are so super-reliant on him that it's not funny. I guess the positive is he is learning to cope with tags and can use the experience in the future and pass it on to the other players. Will be another 1-2 years before he actually starts receiving some solid help.

In case you hadn't noticed he already is!
Says something about Kerrs ability to deal with tags hey!
If Kerr got some help, much the same way Cousins and Judd did back in our hey day, this wouldnt even be a topic of discussion.

Masten to the guts v Melbourne. Get Priddis out of the starting combination. Use him off the bench.

We need a enforcer to hit Kerrs tag hard, legally of course. Shame it wont happen.

You really don't have a clue.

Lecras is wasted in the pocket he used to play good midfield roles with West Perth has a good size and awareness in traffic a smart footballer maybe he could alternate with Kerr taking his tagger to the pocket.

Come-on Woosha you don`t need me to tell you this.
