Kerr out? Judd in trouble - are the stars aligning?

Saints are 2 points ahead of us with West Coast and guess who (Richmond) to play. It is unlikely that we will beat West Coast but Saints will lose to them.

Sorry but 9th to 11th for us this year

Embley Out
Kerr Out
Cousins ?
Judd ? - only 50% if doesn play
Cox needs to get the windy hill flu and then we are a really big chance. Only problem is 5 day turnaround - playing sunday arvo/night then travelling interstate for sat arvo game.

Hansen didn't look to good pulling up with a bit of a hammy.

I don't wish this upon them but it's making us beating west coast look quite a possibility.

Even @ 70%...Judd is a threat. Cousins you'd imagine would return...too much class for us over there. Anything can happen though.

I dont think Judd will play, Embley wont, Hansen Doubtful, Kerr wont.

I Would suggest Cousins will be right but he has had trouble pulling up after games but i would count on him playing with the others out.

Essendon a big chance but both sides have a lot to play for.

Judd likely to be rested

WEST COAST's gun onballer Chris Judd is likely to be rested next week in a bid to improve his input for the finals series.

Judd managed only 10 possessions and remained goalless as virtually a permanent forward at Telstra Dome last night.

The Brownlow Medalist struggled to impact on the Eagles' eight points win over St Kilda in a tense contest played in finals-type pressure.

"There's every likelihood that we won't play him next week (against Essendon) and be confident that he will come up the week after," coach John Worsfold said.

"When he came off in the last quarter, I just asked how he was feeling and he said ok. And if ok meant we won't use him if we don't have to.

"I haven't really got a feel for it (how Judd played), I'll have to watch the game. The good thing is that he felt good enough to play."

Judd only joined his teammates for the last few minutes of the standard 15 minutes pre-game warm-up as he nurses a restrictive groin injury.

And the injury-stricken Eagles seem to have paid a high price for the come-from-behind win with key forward Ashley Hansen appearing to damage a hamstring in the last minutes.

Hansen, a critical forward target with Quinten Lynch, pulled up suddenly when chasing an opponent on the Dockside wing and walked slowly to the interchange bench.

"The early word I thought it was a hammy, they think it's just cramp, but they're not certain," Worsfold said.

"It could be a hamstring strain and they're going to need overnight to see how it settles down and assess it tomorrow."

Worsfold was pleased with the response from several players to changed roles mid-match after St Kilda shot away to a 28 points lead at quarter-time and still led by 22 points at half-time.

"I suppose the only benefit of having a bad first quarter is that there's three quarters to go," the Eagles' coach said.

"I was really pleased with players who adapted during the game, we changed their roles and the way we wanted to move the ball.

"There were quite a few, but I'd prefer not to go through them.

"We had turnover issues early, that was probably the key worry, poor decision-making and costly mistakes, really bad mistakes.

"You're always going to make mistakes in pressure games, but it's how you make those mistakes and I thought some we made early were soft mistakes. But they certainly resurrected that.

"To have (Dean) Cox and (Ben) Cousins in good form is great, but they don't really go out of form. The workrate of the other players was great.

"Our players were keen to run the last quarter out, especially going in a goal up. They felt they had the run left."

Lost amid the focus on the outstanding work of Cox and Cousins was full-back Darren Glass who kept Fraser Gehrig to only two goals.

"There were a lot of question marks on him last week, a few people thought he lowered his colours to Richo (Matthew Richardson). I think he did pretty well tonight," Worfold said.

"If we win next week, that gives us a chance to finish second. I'll take what comes. If we get to play a final at Subi oval, that's wonderful. If we don't we look forward to the challenge wherever we get drawn. I think we're travelling ok."

With Sydney losing tonight, there are 2 spots up for grabs now

Yep. A solid win today and a miracle vs West Coast next week will probably be enough to get us in.
We'd still need Adelaide and/or Sydney to do us a favour by losing to Collingwood and/or Hawthorn respectively, but I'd back the Pies and the Hawks in those contests anyway.
