KEY CATS COME BACK
Geelong Advertiser
Tuesday, August 24
SIMON TOWNLEY
INJURY depleted Geelong received some welcome good news with Corey Enright and Brent Moloney available for selection this week against Hawthorn.

Other good news is that tests and X-rays yesterday revealed David Wojcinski is a chance to play in the finals after dislocating his elbow in the match against Adelaide last Saturday.

The earlier than expected return of Moloney (finger) and Enright (jaw) will ease the Cats' midfield problems with the club being without James Bartel (suspension) for a further match and James Kelly (leg) for the season.

Enright broke his jaw in three places in the Round 18 clash with St Kilda after a seemingly innocuous clash with teammate Tom Harley and had three plates inserted into the injury.

It was initially expected that Enright would miss up to six matches but his early return eases the pressure on selectors to find inform replacements.

Candidates for the midfield include James Rahilly, David Spriggs and Shannon Byrnes.

Time has caught up with big man David Loats who has not recovered from his knee injury and the Cats conceded yesterday he would not be available for the rest of the season.

Hawthorn's Nathan Thompson and Nick Holland are still in doubt for the Round 22 clash with the Cats after being late withdrawals from last week's match against Richmond.

Thompson (hamstring) and Holland (illness) will both be tested while John Barker (illness) is right to play.

________________

Great news!! Surely Byrnes will come back ahead of Rahilly/Spriggs.

Hopefully:

OUT: Wojcinski, D. Johnson
IN: Moloney, Enright

This is a confirmation that our ruck stocks need to be boosted. We must use a pick to get Meesen or Delucca in the Nat Draft.I know ideally we would pick up our "Pot of Gold" forward but if we have a talented ruck divsion we may be able pick 2 ruckmen each week, use the medium talls we have plus a resting ruckman on the forwardline.

Mark Blake will be ready for senior football far earlier than either my boy Mees, or Fab DeLuca.

If they don't play this week do you think it is wise taking two underdone players into the finals?

The VFL has finished for the year so they can't get any match fitness in the twos.

unco certaintly gives his all every week. i'm not sure about this john meesen kid, is he any good. i've played basketball against him and he seems a natural at that and i have only seen him play one game of footy for the falcons and he didn't really do much around the ground and the one kick he did get wasn't impressive.

Definitely not.

They both will play, and justifiably so.

We can afford to have both on the end of the bench, playing a half, in order to get some miles into their legs.

Disagree. I think Unco does a good enough job, and Blake is still improving.

Rodion , at times this year when fit Chambers has been fair to good but he really is only a tryer who will struggle to contribute elsewhere on the field so when King is up and going he rarely can hold a spot in the side

By getting the best available ruckman in the draft we can add talent to the list that in around 3 years we hopefully will two young ruckmen that will ease the burden on an ageing King.Look at Brisbane , great depth in rucks helps them be the side they are!

I would hope so , but Im not only thinking about next year im thinking about when GAJ, Bartel etc has 150 games on the clock, when in theory they hit their prime. We should ensure we have talls that give them a better chance for first use, we should ensure we can cover injuries like King has had this year or might have in the future.
King is King , Chambers is a tryer , Loats is a medicare bill and Blake is unknown. We need more Ruck power , ruck power that can play else where on the field , ruck power that can compliment King so we can have 2 ruckmen in the same side.
