key matchups for sat

I would think the most important match up would be Lucas vs Michael.
If Lucas is held, itll be tough to kick a winning score with their young quality half backs running it out.
Our ability to score will need to be at its best if we are to have any chance of beating the Lions. Thank Christ Aker and Brown arent in or we'd be looking at another 10+ drubbing.

fletcher vs bradshaw
.slattery vs hooper

Greetings all, hope you don't mind a visit from the enemy.

Looks like there should be some great contests on Sat'd, Fletcher v Bradshaw and Michael v Lucas in particular.
IMO Mcphee would be wasted on Brennan, who is nowhere near as dangerous as the hype would tell you. He's probably better off playing in the forward line.

I think McPhee might actually have to go to Bradshaw at times if Brisbane push a resting ruckman forward, Fletcher will have to go there.

That's on the presumption Bradley is being used as a second ruck.

Welsh to Brennan.

Lucas and Michael contest could work in our advantage if Lucas drags Michael away from the goals. Michael is a great player, but seems to be at his best when playing close to goals (like fletcher).

I'd say that Keating may be in their forward line a fair bit... If so then Fletcher will take him (or Charman). McPhee is wanting to play midfield/forward these days and therefore perhaps Solly on bradshaw...? with Bradley helping out...?

Don't like that one bit. McPhee will play where he is told to play and I think that has to be on Bradshaw. Solomon would be embarrassed on Bradshaw IMO. But then again so have most of Bradshaw's opponets when he play's us. Who usually get's him?

I'm not sure who usually gets Bradshaw - probably McPhee.... I think that Solly would get beaten, but if Fletcher isn't playing on him then any other player will get beaten too...

Solly is only 2cm shorter then Bradshaw and a similar weight. He did okay on Gerry and Fev.... Solly would be beaten for pace, however if other backman (eg Bradley) were cutting off his space then it may not work that badly for us.

Plus it would allow McPhee to have a more creative roll, something that Solly isn't as able to do...

If Solly plays on either Bradshaw or Charman when he goes forward, McPhee must play at half-back on their least dangerous forward.

Although Nash has been very good in the last two weeks at filling space and at the least pushing the opposition full-forward wide. Gehrig and Fev didn't get too many shots straight infront.

I think Bolton should be given the job on Bradshaw. But then again I have an unhealthy amount of love for Bolton.

McPhee would be good in that role, I haven't seen the last two matches when Nash has played well so I can't really comment on that.

I would prefer to play Solly in a negating role rather then McPhee. As I'm not sure where else Solly would play if not in a negating role. I guess he could push forward to provide another option in the forward line...?

Plus I think that Solly is quite effective in a negating role, he may not make every contest, but he always pushes the player wide or out of scoring distance.

Judging by the Brisbane matches that I have watched recently, expect a substantial flood of our forward line!

McPhee at full back would be a very dumb move. He hates KP and is much better as the floating HBF.

Solomon has only one use - as a fullback. He will play there for most of the rest of his career me thinks. His kicking and decision making is terrible as is his fitness. better he be out of the play as much as possible - Bradshaw will kill anyone we throw at him, may as well be Solly. Giving him the gig might give hime some confidence. Will release fletch who may be able to help out then along with McPhee.

Jeez I miss Wellman.

To win we must do the following:

kick Hille in the nuts before the game - he has to come out ANGRY.
Pev to tag Black -not get a kick, just shut him down.
Watson on Voss - let Voss get his share, let Jobe get his.
McVeigh on Power - shut that squib down.
Lucas at CHF, Hird at FF.Use Hird as a decoy on Michael and let Lovett and so on rotate throguh the pocket and lead from the square.

We need to play smart footy.

Having said that - Brisbane by 5 goals is my tip. We should win this, but we won't because we'll find a way to lose.

Solly is ideal for Bradshaw. Play him physically and watch him watch.

I think we're underestimating Brashaw...McPhee hasnt exactly had one his most brighter seasons and Bradshaw is going along nicely in Brown's absence.
Fletcher on Bradshaw and manning up tightly on Charman would force them to go for another option...rendering the ruckman as a 3rd or less significant avenue to goal. Solly on Voss for me with McPhee on that dangerous Sherman.

We definitely need to keep Sherman quiet. McPhee plays a little too loose for my liking at times and Sherman's got the potential to kick a few goals.
