I know people have discussed this in other threads but it has all got squashed in amongst other things...so i thought id start a fresh one

Scarlett definitely on Williams.

Double team Franklin - Egan/Mackie

Blake sometimes playing as a lose man in defence to punch the ball away

D Johnson on Crawford

C Ling on Hodge

Mitchell needs close attention at stoppages in particular.
If DJ takes Crawford and Ling takes Hodge who are we going to take their best player in Mitchell with ANY SUGGESTIONS???

PS: We don't need to double team Buddy. Lets have FAITH IN EGAN

I am very concerned about the Cats your key forwards with Croad not playing. He is really the only player with the strength to play on him. (Gilham, Jacobs, and probably Roughead will be our three tall defenders to line up on Hawkins, Mooney, and Ottens? Or whill N. Ablett play?)

Players you need to stop are Franklin, Williams, Hodge, Mitchell, Crawford. Thats pretty obvious.

I wouldnt be too worried about tagging their players. Maybe hodge off halfback but we should be able to take the hawks head on. It will be interesting to see who they tag given our recent performances.

If the hawks are in-form and back themselves then this game could be great fast running open shootout.

Other matchups
- Steve Johnson for Williams? I dont think Hunt is quick enough but he'll have to fill that space in front.
- Franklin? Sheesh, we dont have a 6'7 super quick defender(who does), but Scarlett would have to get first go.

Steve Johnson?? David Johnson?
And if you mean David Johnson no way he got cut up terrible last year playing on Williams. Egan to play on Franklin. Played pretty well on him last year. Also in my opinion they will have to tag Bartel, Chappy, Gaj Jrn and maybe woja.

Scarlo will go to Williams like he usally does. I also confident that Ego can take Buddy, Ling to Mitchell, D. Johnson to Crawford and chuck Chapman down forward so Hodge has to man him and be accountable...

Steve Johnson - Whaaaaaaa?

Murphy inclusion?

He doesn't have the strength, but he can read the play really well and run off their forwards...

Think that Lewis and Bartel will battle with each other, very similar players, just Lewis is two years behind, both great in the air for mids.

The key with Franklin is putting someone on him that has enough speed to go with him, even if they are a lot shorter, giving away height against buddy is alot better than giving away speed.

Think Sewell will be on G. Ablett, already has honours of beating Grant & Johnstone this year. Could get Chapman though.

Mitchell and Ling would be a great match up.

Wojak will play on Young/Bateman/Osborne. Osborne would be the negitive approach if Hawks decide to tag him, Young played on Wells last week so Wojak is a possibilty.

Gilham on Mooney, Roughead on Hawkins, Jacobs on Ottens/N. Ablett. Campbell Brown on Chappy could happen as well.

Yeah i forgot about Mitchell - put DJ on Mitchell and Wojinksi on Crawford.
Wat about bringing Rooke back?

If I remember rightly, Franklin carved us up in the third or last quarter last time and he was playing on Harley.

Egan should be ok for Franklin, he is pretty nimble too, but just not as quick. Help D will be used there.

Who gives a crap about Williams, Scarlo there, but Williams has been terrible thus far. The Hawk midfield is something to look out for. They will have to tag Bartel, maybe Jnr but that is all they will do. You can't tag everyone, you do need ballwinners too.

We should be too powerful at the front end. I don't think Blake will play. I think King will be back, maybe Nathan Ablett also.

With the team from last week, hopefully their performances haven't gone to their heads, they should win, by about 4 goals.

Wat about bringing Rooke back?

Rooke got a bit of a knock to the head in the VFL, but did eventually come back on to rack up 16 possies (I think) for the second half. So he probably is ok to go, but maybe will play another game in the two's first.
Although could be an inclusion for Selwood, who was supposed to be rested last game.

I'd like to see Djerkurra get a run sometime also. He has some talent.

Willo's kicked 10 in the last 2, relies on decent feed from the mids and flanks. Battle will be won from the midfield.

Franklin carved up Harley in the first quarter - so much so, Harley did a hamstring chasing him. Egan went on him and Franklin disappeared from the game. At the time I thought it was a terrible matchup but it seemed to work.

Battle will be won from the midfield.

Thats an overused statement really, Geelongs forward line will win this game.

How many times in the last few years have you seen teams like the eagles, bulldogs melbourne smash teams out of the middle but simply not have the forwards to convert?

Mitchell, Hodge and Jordan Lewis are the keys to there midfield stop them and we will win. I do hope Ling can run with Mitchell, he is the key to the game.

Sricat, let them tag us not the other way around.

Boyle - Scarlett
Ego - Franklin
Mackie - Williams
Ling - Mitchell

We've got great ball winners: Joel Corey and Corey Enright. Also, Wojo can play around the ball, Varcoe or Djekka could play, Byrnes is quick, Chapman can be played out of the middle too. Milburn often pushes up the ground, Mackie can run off half-back to half-forward...

This is how I see some of the match-ups going down:

Campbell Brown to take Chapman when he's down in the forward line.

Sewell to shut down Gaz.

Ling to take on Mitch (he's done a good job on him before).

Maybe Milburn on Hodge when Hodgey's down at half-back. Stretch him a little and keep him accountable. Otherwise I could see Bartel & Hodgey to get head on with fantastic results for the viewers (well at least me, with Bartel being my favourite player outside of Hawthorn, and Hodgey being my favourite within).

Egan, who's been in good form, to take on Franklin when he's hovering around the 50.

Roughy to move down back on one of your power forwards, most likely Mooney.

Don't like the look of that matchup at all. Swap Scarlo and Mackie for mine.

wouldn't be surprised to see Mackie play on franklindecision and do enough to justify . Franklin could still kick ~3 goals but minimal impact on game, like green last week. as long as he doesn't break the game with bursts of brilliance.
