KG has just given one of his infamous rumours that Pavlich will be a Crow next year with Daniel Chick going to Fremantle and Kane Johnson(althought didn't actually mention him by name) going to Hawthorn.

yes they are - but only to see him qualify for the eagles

re chick to freo - he certainly could give the finger to his club if they do not want him anymore

As much as I would hate to lose Sugar, if he wants to return home & it meant getting a key forward such as Pavlich or Carey, we would have a far better balanced side. Would think though that Freo would want more than Chick for Pavlich though.

I think you're right. I think the Pav and Carey deals will involve lots of wheeling and dealing for JR & co. I can see us trying to do a deal involving three clubs (AFC, FFC and someone else - like the Jarman deal) to get Pav. for example, what if Headland wants to go home or Freo make him an offer? I could see AFC assisting Freo with that for us to get Pav.

Am I the only person who thinks Pavlich is seriously over-rated?

I agree we need to put some of our big name players on line to strengthen our forwardline, as Paul said Johnson will eventually want to head back to Victoria anyway so we might aswell get a good young player like Pavlich for him but I also agree that Freo are going to want more than just Chick for Pavlich, I dont think Hawthorn at the moment would have a roblem accepting Johnson and nothing else cause he is a hell of a better player than Chick, if this deal did happen it would be disapointing to see Sugar go because he has served the club well but like I said if he plans on going we should get a quality player like Pavlich in return:D I also think that the priorty should be to get Pavlich over Carey if we cant get Pavlich then go after Carey we need one or the other if not both if that could be done:D

No, you aren't.

I can't understand why the Crows keep targeting moderately good CHBs from not great teams (first Holland, now Pavlich). If Freo thought he was going to be their CHF for the next decade, why would they play Leigh Brown there instead?

I too have hardly ever seen Pavlich play up forward.

And his work in the back line has never really impressed me either.

Maybe I just haven't seen the right matches.

The kid is South Australian, he MAY want to come home, but that doesn't make him a future great.

Eddie Eagle, if Adelaide recruit him I'd much rather be proven wrong than it end up a worthless trade.

Pavlich can play any key position, although I don't think he is too confortable at full-back.

I would say you have answered yourself as the kid can play & will be one of the gun players of the AFL.

Leigh Brown isn't even playing at the moment - he got dropped. IMO, Freo would be better off playing Brown at CHB & Pavlich @ CHF (rather than Fewster).

As I said before we would be better off sacrificing some our midfield drive by trading one of our star midfielders to get a decent key forward (particularly if one of them wants to return home). We might not have as many forward entries, but at least we are more likely to convert more, as our forward effectiveness is not good at the moment.

Brown, Fewster, doesn't matter really. My question remains - If Pavlich is really the 2 million dollar man, why is he playing CHB for an average side? Why isn't he being used up forward? (And if Freo reckon that Fewster is a better CHF than Pav - that's not a good rap at all).

"Decent" key forward is the key here. I'm still not convinced that Pavlich is one, or will be one.

And I'm still not convinced that Sugar wants to come back to Melbourne, either, so let's not trade him away because he might be homesick. I think the Crows have been pretty soft over the years on letting guys go home for far too little. Rintoul, Collins and Picioane for starters. (Not that they were anywhere near Johnson's level, but we got less than nothing for these guys).

Me either.

That's a question only Chris Connolly could answer. However Pavlich does seem to prefer playing as a forward. I agree with you though that he is not worth the money being mentioned by the likes of Walls - but then again John Reid reckons the figures mentioned are crap & the Crows would certainly not pay him millions.

We beg to differ on our perceptions of Pav's ability. He is a quality key position player.

Look I would hate to lose Sugar too, but if he does want to go home as he has mentioned in the past he seems the logical trade as we will have to give up quality to get quality.

Losing these players has not hurt us at all. They haven't exactly established their spots in their new teams.

Not convinced about Pavlich

Stevo for club champion in 2002

KG has just given one of his infamous rumours that Pavlich will be a Crow next year with Daniel Chick going to Fremantle and Kane Johnson(althought didn't actually mention him by name) going to Hawthorn.

I heard KG say this one and although he didn't mention the name of the Crows player, Cornsey said "will he take his appendix home with him?". I think this kind of rumour is uncalled for. We all know that Pav is so called "up for grabs" at the end of the season, I have my doubts but that will come later, however Daniel Chick and more importanly Kane Johnson are in the middle of their seasons with their respective clubs. I think it is very unfair and potentially unsettling for both of these players to have rumours flying around about them.

I didn't think the Crows were still interested in Pavlich??

The figure 2 Million dollars has been going around the traps. JR has already said that the Crows will not pay him that much. So either Pav would have to settle for a smaller pay cheque or the Crows would have to concede to his demands and make him the highest paid Crow above Roo/McLeod/Goodwin.

Am I the only person who thinks Pavlich is seriously over-rated?

I am not completely convinced. Can you truely measure how good he is in a side like Freo? My mind is still open to debate on t his one.

I would hate to see Sugar Baby head back to Melbourne. Sugar has been one of our few Victorian success storys. He came over as a 17 year old and he has worked hard through difficult times and has turned into a dual premiership player who is a key to our success. I hear all sorts of things like "kane wan'ts to go back to Victoria" and "Kane wants to stay a Crow". But I have never heard it from him. I would love to know what he really wants to d o. If he truely wants to go home then we should look at using him as a trade, because if his heart isn't with the Crows then he is not giving 100% to himself or the club. We should find out the truth, not presume he might want to go back to Victoria. He is a fantastic player and I have always hoped he would play his entire career here with the Crows. He has had success, he is adored by the fans (female particularly). he is on good money (not that it should be the reason he stays) and the club is a professional, well run & very financial organisation. As a player I would much rather play for the Crows than for Hawthorn or Richmond. It won't be an easy decision for anyone!

Re: Not convinced about Pavlich

Kane wont go back to Victoria at the end of this year. He is enjoying his best season of AFL football and the Crows would be silly to trade him. I think he is too important to your side to simply trade him because he is homesick. He has been here since 95 or 96 so youd think he'd be all settled down here now after 6 or 7 years. Fair enough if he wants to simply play for a victorian club..but i dont buy the whole home sickness after 7 years when you are doing what you love and making good money. If he wasnt part of the Crows first team then again, maybe...but he is one of the Crows best players.

So i wouldnt worry to much Crows fans...i cant see him going anywhere.

As for Pavlich....he is a good player...overrated tho and will be too far overpriced after he decides where to go. He is a good player in an average team...so it will be interesting to see how he would go in a top 4-6 side like Port and Adelaide. He might improve even more with more skillful teammates around him or he might be shown as a pretender in a top side. Id say after playing foor with and against him since the age of 8 that he will be the sort that will cherish playing alongside more skillful teammates and he will becaome a top player.

huh

Let me get this straight...Freo would swap Pavlich, who IS a good player, will almost CERTAINLY be a very good player and maybe, just maybe, will develop into a great player, for DANIEL CHIC and a draft pick? HAHAHAHAHAHA riiiiiiiiight..Chic is CRAP.

KG is a moron. He's the biggest one eyed crows supporter in the history of the club and all he's doing is trying to add his pathetic little bit of media pressure to Pavlich and family, and trying to keep the issue alive in the SA media.

Funny thing is Pavlich probably wouldn't play for the Crows even if he had the chance, seeing as they took mcgregor instead of him LOL. I can see pav going to port for sure, maybe for Cassissi+someone else+draft pick or Carr and a draft pick. Crows? forget it

Every club missed on Pavlich in 98 if I am not mistaken.Shall we have a look at what Port got in 98 when they could have taken Pavlich?

Michael Stevens, Adam Morgan, Toby Thurstsans and Derek Murray.LOL back at ya.

(re Collins, Picioane and Rintoul) Losing these players has not hurt us at all. They haven't exactly established their spots in their new teams.

But AFL rules say that if you trade someone away for a draft pick, you have to use that draft pick. We gave Rintoul away for pick 91 or something equally silly, so not only did we have to delist something like 9 players that year so we could get down to pick 91, we had to use pick 91 on a player (couldn't pass and see what happens pre-season or stockpile it forupgrading a rookie). So we finished up effectively giving away Rintoul for Clint Kirey or Brodie Atkinson.

Therefore, this trade DID hurt the Crows. Similarly with Picioane for pick 79 (Balraj Singh). IIRC Collins went to Melbourne for Bassett effectively, so that one at least was OK.

When Ottens was out of contract and homesick 18 months ago, the Richmond heavies drove him down to Moorabbin one winter's night. "You aren't going home, Brad", they said. "The only way you leave Richmond is in the draft, and do you really want to play here?" He re-signed the next week.

I know we aren't going to send Johnson scuttling back to Melbourne for pick 100, but I hope the Crows are thinking re-sign first, trade second this time.

Bottom line is that the Crows need a go-to forward next year, be it a Pavlich or a Carey. No point having all this midfield dominance if we cannot finish it off. To get a decent forward we are going to have to give up a quality midfielder. Look I would love to keep Kane Johnson & I would rank only McLeod & Riccuito in front of him as midfielders. ie. I would even prefer to trade Goodwin in front of Johnson (I know this will start some debate).

I pose the following question. Would the Crows' chances be better this week if we could substitute Pavlich or Carey for Goodwin or Johnson?

I guess you answer yes, and I think not. We'll probably have to leave it at that.
