Looks like the Lions will need to find another ruckman now charman failed to come back from injury and clark looking set to walk...what are the options from the lions 2nd pick and onwards...So many holes in the lions roster that needs filling...mids, small forwards, KPD, KPF, and now rucks!!!!

Clark is a case of wait and see. If he goes, maybe you look at going after a ruckman in the rookie draft. But for the time being Mids+Quality KPPs should be the priority.

Leuenberger is good and McCauley as a backup is reasonable so even if Clark leaves it should be a lower order need for mine since you will still have at least two competitive players who can occupy the position.

With the sub rule if it doesn't revert back there will likely be a couple of ruckman delisted - maybe a Brad Moran could be a reasonable get as depth or a Mark Blake who is reasonably competitive. But I'd favour the rookie ruckman since there has been so much success accross the competition at developing these young ruckman over recent years and who knows? Maybe you will strike gold.

Thought that someone might be interested in dates for the draftees.

I was wondering if anyone thought the 8 weeks of 15 players was a little long winded.

August 2 - Tall Forwards (already released)
August 9 - Tall Defenders
August 16 - Medium Midfielders
August 23 - Small Forwards / Defenders
August 30 - Medium Defenders
September 5 - Ruckman
September 12 - Medium Forwards
September 19 - Small / Medium Midfielders

Kudo's for getting names out early......mine is very different to yours. From what I can see we are the same on the first 30-40 but a very different order. After that we are very divergent. FWIW - you have the Pies getting 3 very similar types from what I remember.....not sure that will happen. Suprised I didnt see Ben Brown in the list!

Yeah I think we will go Tall Anyway and Maybe some Players with Good Pace

On the assumption that the Hawks do not trade and also that we use the 2nd Round on Tom Curran then the rest (probably 2 picks) should be 186-189 half backs.

These are succession plans for Guerra, Ladson and even Hodge and Burgoyne. They need to be taller than the 1st two but just as hard at it. Not expecting a gun midfielder at our first pick at around 25.

We need to draft one KPP per season over the next 3 seasons (Curran being this year).

Just interested on your thoughts on Hawthorn's list for next year. How many do you think might be cleared from their 2010 list.

Where is Michael Iaggleio going to go this year? Might be small, but has only missed out in the Norwood ressies best twice out of about 11 games this year, about 4-5 were best on.

Knightmare - is this a 3 player draft? Because we seem pretty ****ed if that is the case. (Probably not the place, but I would see if we could pair Westhoff with #4 to move up). Who would you say, if any, would you say is in the next 'tier' of players?

Is there any KPF who would be worth taking fourth?

Difference is good. Haven't looked at other peoples lists but it's a good way to find out + get different ideas on different players. Wouldn't have it any other way. Very much look forward to seeing your draft some time soon.

B.Brown I put in my rookie draft. But for Coll or any other team for that matter would willingly take him in the national draft. Don't have a gauge on what clubs think of him. Haven't seen his Tas footy but at the champs felt like he progressed with every game and towards the end was putting together some REALLY good footy. Could easily see him coming into the draft order. Talent is there.

Gave the Pies a couple of KPPs in the rookie draft. Think we could easily get as much value if not more out of an Eddy or Ben Brown as we might out of a Dobosz, Paine or Bussey or similar KPP which is why I elected to go KPP there and in the national draft just go best available with fairly versatile types who I think could fit our system.

Will take another closer look at needs. Looking at the Hawthorn selections I went overboard with the KPPs. Will add in more variety on a later edit.

Wouldn't think a large list turnover. Have a strong list with a good young core group. 4 would be around the mark for senior list changes.

Where is Michael Iaggleio going to go this year? Might be small, but has only missed out in the Norwood ressies best twice out of about 11 games this year, about 4-5 were best on.

Don't really know his game well. Didn't play during U18 champs. Would be some SA scouts with a better idea on his situation.

The top 3 are the standouts.

Top 20 is fairly strong. Certainly not a weak top end. Some really nice talents up there.

After the 2nd round quality starts to taper off and would be a fair bit of variation between many phantom drafts after that stage with any variety of players a chance.

Reasonable draft. Not weak.

Kennedy was in the mix last year. In a less strong draft this year possible rookie chance.

Smith played for NT in the champs didn't he? Was ok but at his height probably didn't stand out enough.

Fairley isn't bad. Has shown some solid TAC Cup form. Draft chance.
Matt Smith has endured a horror year. Missed first 4 rounds of TAC with a hammy, then averaged 22 possessions over 4 games before nationals, but still underdone for that level. Did other hammy during nationals, then another injury (arm?) on return to TAC. Put on 5 kg of solid muscle over summer and I think that level of training caught up with him. I hope he gets another shot next year.

knightmare being a freo supporter was just wondering if you could give me a bit more info on fraser mcinness snce you have us drafting him with our first pick. maybe even some footage if there is any??? sounds a likely type but i dont know much about him. or even some more info on any kpp that will be around at our first pick. thanks in advance

I came in to have a look at this thread to see where you put Greene.

Way too low.

Underrated or not?? Ball winning machine. Think he's top 5 material.

Well who is a better pure mid

Dyson, Grigg or Greene

Rate green very highly but it would be unlikely if he got above those 2 maybe Dyson

Would love if port gained a 8-14 and could get him though

With the top 4-20 it really is a very even group and there will be allot of variation between phantom drafts in that range.

I have Greene on the lower end of where we might see him but certainly could go higher. The only reason I have him on the lower end is that I think clubs might favour those higher upside, more flash + better athlete types. But Greene looks like a really solid option as a big ball winner for a club looking for one who looks like a sure thing to have a career at the next level.

I think from memory I have Shane Nelson down for the Fremantle selection at this stage.
But McInness would be among the potential options for Freo. Adds some good size down back. Has had some injury difficulties but the potential is there. Reasonably agile and should grow out and be able to handle the bigger forwards with time. Has been one of the leading KPPs for this draft for a couple of years. Will take time - probably the usual 4 years for KPPs. But projects well.

Ball winner = Greene
Kick = Grigg
All rounder = Tyson

Not allot to seperate and depends on which one clubs like more.

My order would be:
Grigg
Tyson
Greene

But there will be variation between scouts and many would rate:
Greene
Tyson
Grigg

So those top 20 or so selections are about finding the best available fit and best fit into your system + structures.
Unless there is a specific reason for a preference of one over the other.

GWS might sell off one or two of those 9-15 type selections, particularly if they get some picks back for some of the 17 year olds for the mini draft. So very possible to gain a pick in the range you suggest.

Wouldn't mind Crozier at West Coast. Chance of sliding?

We need a magic type.

We need a magic type.

He is a chance of sliding on current form. Produces inconsistantly. Bit like Kieran Harper of last year.

But is a serious talent. If he slides that far would be a very good selection.

That's good to know, I find my self strangely fixated (no homo) with Crozier and we could do with a Daisyish sort of player to complement our grunt players, that's if he comes on.

You'd think though that with only 3 genuine KPD's on the list (one of them being 30) that West Coast might look at a KPD - either Talia or Lockyer, but I hope we have a look at Crozier regardless.

Your thoughts:

Obviously a little biased with the Tassie boys!!!

However type in "Henry Schade You Tube" on google and have a look at the ABC clip.

I know we have that big stretch of water between us and understandably are off the radar but this kid can play.

He is still 17 years old and is now 195cm and still growing. Call me stupid but have a look at direct competion for 17-18 year olds and you might start to understand my thinking. He would need a couple of years in the gym to compete at AFL level, but with his size and skill he could be a FB or CHB.

Also ask yourself why some of the so called "hotshots" were either overlooked or only got a state testing invite!

Schade is in with a real chance of a 1st Draft Pick.

Happy with any criticism or constructive advice on this one.

.

More of a 2nd rounder + for mine.

Some better KPP talents. McInness + Talia I have well ahead of Schade as defenders.

Not a fan of Mitch Brown? Has had injuries but looks ok.

From here for WCE it's about adding quality KPPs rather than just depth. Otherwise better off adding outside mids or crumbing forwards amongst other things.
