Have you heard of Sam Heavyside (2014 Draft)? This season in the TAC he played 10 games and was in the best 10 times!
Not to mention was in the best players in his first game at senior VFL level (admittedly at the exceptionally weak Bendigo Gold) - was draft eligible last year but season cruelled by injury. Short, solid and not that quick but a 'natural' footballer. Got lots of it but disposal efficiency not that great (but it's really hard when you have no one from your own team to feed it out to!) I suspect on the fringes of the main draft, might be an inspired rookie draft selection if he doesn't get picked up in the main draft (not that I'd have a clue, really, but he's one of the better local talents)

What do you think the swans will do with the lack of ruckman then
Tom Derickx signed today so I guess that ends that one. I think thats also an admission that Lobb won't get through to 32 and we don't fancy any other rucks at that pick.

Been kicking goals as well

In sheed's draft video on the afl website he mentions firstly how he would bring loyalty to a club and secondly that he moved away from home as a 16 year old, could these factors influence brisbane's likelihood to draft him considering the number of players they have lost to homesickness

Heavyside is 19, went undrafted last year because of injury, so draft eligible this year obviously.

But I agree, killed it this year

Am I missing something KM? Did you update the first post on pg.1? What's changed? Seems a bit off from what I can see... Blues picks haven't changed with Crouch/Thorp unlikely.

Knightmare surely Billy Hartung will not go past the top 20? He looks like an absolute jet. Already has a solid tank, pace to burn. What are the knocks on him? He looks good with ball in hand aswell, especially when disposing of the footy at his pace.

Hartung may go top 20 but more likely somewhere around that range as opposed to being a certain top 20 selection.

Knightmare just on Nathan Freeman this bloke plays identical to Luke Shuey IMO. Has that initial burst of speed and same kicking technique. Thoughts?

Freeman has some Shuey and the hope is he becomes as good as Shuey.

He's just not a sure thing and it's not so clear he's a midfielder.

He's a receiver and doesn't win enough ball often enough. Despite his athleticism and endurance he's not a high level accumulator so I'm struggling to see how he's going to find the ball at the next level.

Perhaps he becomes a run and carry back flanker but I'm not as certain as I was earlier in the year.

Hey Knightmare - Can Marcus Bontempelli become a Anthony Koutoufides type player?

It's a possible outcome if he adds the size to his frame. He's such a unique player that as a best case scenario he does have the talent to become something similar.

I see him becoming something inbetween Jared Brennan and Anthony Koutoufides.

Put in into a team with a strong development system and he has the scope to become something closer to Kouta.

Hey KM. What is your thoughts on Alex Hickey from the Geelong falcons and could Geelong pick him up as a rookie?

C2B

He's a rookie chance but not nearly a certain selection. He's a good back flanker and has had a strong season in the TAC as one of many very good players on that Geelong Falcons list. Good user of the footy and plays a good two way game and is an effective intercept marker.

He's one who probably should be spoken about more but I haven't heard any strong suggestions that he'll get drafted.

Sam Heavyside was eligable last year and overlooked - mostly due to injury. He came back mid way through the season and dominated through the midfield.

Brisbane like their athletes and those who test particularly well at the draft combine so I can't imagine he'd be high on Brisbane's list but it's not a selection that would shock me to see either being a strongly performed player.

Brisbane will have interviewed all the highly rated prospects and for many others moving interstate won't be an issue with many just wanting to get drafted.

Would WCE pick Marsh if he was still there at 31?

He may be available but I'm not hearing Marsh linked to West Coast.

Word sneaking out that the saints may pass on billings for scharenberg. Would throw the first round into chaos. Love it

The only two selections that seem locked in right now are those top two so not too many things would surprise me.

Thorp has been linked to Carlton and 3-4 other teams.

Crouch hasn't been linked to Carlton to my surprise. I currently have Sheed at Carlton's first selection so I'm not sure what you're reading.

Knightmare what are your thoughts on Cameron Conlon getting drafted? Is he a chance? If so what range? would love carlton to pick him up with 51. He could be anything if his body permits

He's a chance to get drafted. No question.

I have him as more of a late/rookie selection having not played in 18 months and with his sample size of brilliance limited with only those first two games particularly interesting.

I'm not so concerned in his body as much as I am his talent and dominance being overstated. He's never had more than five marks in a game or more than three after those first two games. Other than those first two games he never had more than two goals in a TAC Cup game. He managed 10+ hitouts in less than half of his games.
It's just not enough to sell me personally on him as a prospect with an over-reliance on potential and hoping he makes it rather than knowing he's AFL standard or somewhere pretty close to.

But in saying that a club in this poor draft for talls may very well select him despite this as someone who at his height and with his talent will intrigue.

The kind of situation where a lack of exposure actually increases his appeal.
Round 1 last year he was exceptional. However, it was his marking in the forward 50 and not his ruck work that made him stand out for mind.
As he is being "considered" or "touted" as a pick 40 - rookie it is testament to the lack of key talls in the draft.
The ratings of Michael Apeness also suggest this.
As a forward for the Ranges I preferred Boyd (obviously) and O'Sullivan pre-injury over Apeness's form (also preferred Roth but he's not a key forward).
I am perplexed as to why Apeness would be considered a 1st round option. I think it would be preferable to look in the 3rd round for rucks from state leagues (well, not the VFL).

Interesting you have Apeness going to the Hawks at selection 24.

I'd be surprised if we didn't go for a midfielder at that pick. We picked two KPP's in the ND last year, and we've got four rucks on the senior list - Hale, McEvoy, Lowden, Ceglar.

What about the flat track bully you picked up from the Aints... Ben McEvoy?!?! ;)

Already got two big boys (well three counting the Big Boy) coming into our system this year with Shem and Kurt as well.

I'd be absolutely stoked with this as a draft result... if you do any revisions just leave Sydney's picks locked as is please.

If we get Acres in the first round I'll be doing cartwheels - with some wise development he'll be an absolute star. Seriously rate Bourke and Giles too. I think Jansen is a solid late round pick and Byrne-Jones looks like a player with real potential for improvement.

I also really like Lang but I see he went one pick earlier than our 2nd - shame.. Unlike others I think there's plenty of solid options up to the mid 40's this year, only a few days to go.

Thanks for all your work in this thread Knightmare, much appreciated
