17 possessions & 7 tackles in a 50 point thrashing by the VFL cats should well and truly put his name up as someone to take notice of. (only 3 handball receives so he is collecting his own ball as well).

It's always been his game. Very much a natural inside ball winner and clearance specialist. Expect more of the same and don't be surprised if he further improves on his current numbers.

Should average 20+ disposals and 5 tackles this season.

With GWS unless they get the value they want for him they'll hold. They need more pace anyway so they're hardly motivated to move him unless a very strong offer is there.
Fair enough, I thought he was out of contract though. If he is contracted then I agree they won't give him away easily.

Where will William Michell end up the end of the year I see he's had a good start to the year and is captain of west perth colts

Hey KM,

Which of GWS' excess KPF do you think are attainable but also valuable?

Also, would you compare Tom Lamb to Gunston? Or is there a better comparison out there.

Finally, what two types of player do you think essendon needs to add to its list / starting 22.

Thanks

Article in todays HUN regarding Wright. If its to be believed he looks like being a clear No. 1 pick this year. His TAC coach who also coached Joes Daniher compared him favourably to Daniher. It was also mentioned that Wright is a genuine ruckman. Sounds like an absolute gun!!!!!
After today the Lions may be firming up as favourites. By the sounds of it not even the Crown Jewels would tempt a club to trade rights to him away!!!!!

Numbers look ok so he may be considered. Haven't seen him play but if he continues performing I'm sure to take a look at some of his games. Assuming he's selected to the WA squad I look forward to watching him through the u18 champs.

Lamb plays the same role and is a similar size so they'll be compared.

Lamb definitely isn't nearly as strong overhead and lacks the same consistency by foot but is more freakish.

Jono Marsh, Jared Brennan, Steve Johnson and Gunston are the types of names I think of when I watch Lamb. Probably most reminds me of Brennan and the recently drafted Marsh.

Essendon could do with another high level key forward and key defender. Another quality onballer would be handy and a crumbing forward if one looks good as a rookie may be another good list fit and would be the pieces I'd be looking to add to the best 22.
Essendon have a strong squad this year. Really liking the look of the group. Fun team to watch and lots of nice outside talent who can really move the footy but also have the balance with the ability to win it inside.

Of the GWS bigs Tomlinson and Jaksch are the two who may be attainable for a mid 1st rounder or equivalent.

Wright is a bigger body, better ruckman and more accurate set shot than Daniher who really struggled converting.

Daniher is the slightly more dominant forward with his contested marking on another level again and his ground level work like we've never seen at his height but you'd love both. Both are special talents and Wright is certainly my top pick at this point.

Remember u18 coaches want to promote the talents who are playing for them now so they'll be prone to over-exaggeration like this. I'd say they're roughly on par - which still is excellent.

Being a top 10 key forward in the competition is the expectation and top 5 is certainly within his capabilities. Rucking while he can do it I don't really care about what he does through the ruck when he's as dominant as he is forward of centre.

It will be interesting at seasons end to see how clubs evaluate him and his best position.

If the ladder stays like it is, Wright to lions , mccartin or Goddard to dees, Goddard or mccartin to blues

What about Adelaide?

Or has Kurt Tippett got 'em again because of salary cap stuff?

We may have stolen picks one and two from melbourne today :(

Wright looks the goods

We need a big bodied, skilled, fast midfielder (any Judds floating around in this draft?)

Lions looks good to Finish Last

No Judd level talents this year. Brayshaw is good and is the best mid in the draft at this point but he doesn't nearly have that same explosive pace. He might be this years Wines/Dunstan equivalent though which is more than handy.

Adelaide won't finish near the bottom.

A 0-3 record to start the season and an ugly injury list suggests Adelaide aren't finishing inside the top 8.

Probably not, but they've lost to Geelong and Port who are both killing it and Sydney who everyone tipped for top 4. They'll bounce back this week. (Reserve the right to change my mind if they lose today. :p)

What's mcCartin like height and size any comparison

KM, if you were picking for the dogs, would you take Goddard or Lamb and why? Or Jake Lever?

I think we will have a pick in the 6-10 range, which obviously won't be enough for Wright/McCartin.

Why not Jarrod Pickett? Could use a player with speed & outside class as well ;)

Although the Crows bounced back well yesterday I agree we've got a lot of work to do in order to make the 8.

In any case, is there any chance someone like Durdin can do a Wingard and slide past the first 5 picks?

Hey KM I was wondering what you know about Kade Answerth from Oakleigh and also for next years draft Theo Thompson from Sandy Dragons?

Not that I've seen anything of O'Rourke, but even so I would be immensely surprised if any clubs would be willing to trade a pick like 5 for him this year, unless he starts to blitz.

For starters, it was pretty widely considered that he was a bit of a "reach" at 2, was it not, because GWS already had plenty of inside ball winning ability (ie. not much need for Ollie Wines), but were in pretty desperate need of polish and excellent footskills and also run and size down back (hence taking O'Rourke and Plowman at 2 and 3, which I doubt hugely anyone else would have done) and also because GWS seemed to only be willing to draft anyone from Vic Metro, which is probably why they chose O'Rourke over the much more highly touted (pretty much everywhere, all year) Jimmy Toumpas.

So at a bare minimum I reckon most clubs would have rated O'Rourke behind all of Whitfield, Toumpas and Wines (who WB likely overlooked because they too were stocked for "inside mids", meaning he fell in Port's lap!) and then of course there was Joe Daniher, who most seemed to consider the no.1 or at worst 2. best "talent" in the draft, but who Essendon were able to get at no.10, through F/S. As far as "talent" goes, Brodie Grundy was probably generally rated higher as well, but slide big-time for probably a couple of reasons, including how he is alleged to have interviewed.

Then of course you had Jaegar O'Meara and Brad Crouch who would have usually been right in the mix for a top 5 pick that year had they not been snapped up in the twice-off mini draft the previous year, so they might have pushed O'Rourke back to as low as 7 at a minimum had it been an uncompromised draft as this year is likely to be in those regards.

On top of all that he has hardly played seniors since he joined GWS and I believe he has had some injury issues, so those two facts could also make clubs less willing to part with a high pick for him, especially in a "KPP draft".

Just my gut feel, but based on all the above, if GWS started asking for a pick like 5 for him this year I think the other clubs would tell them they're dreaming if he doesn't start to really show a heap in a hurry.

I reckon you raise a heap of great points. I was surprised we took O'Rourke over Wines as we in fact did not have a heap of bigger bodied mids (only Greene/Adams at the time).

He has definitely lost currency in that he has yet to establish himself and has had injury issues. To me he is a poor mans Whitfield.

On the other side there does appear to be a dearth of high quality mids available this year so clubs looking for that may be attracted if buying for needs and I doubt many thought Dom Tyson would net as much as he did last year but one club really wanted him. I think Carlton/Richmond/Melbourne and Western Bulldogs would be interested in O'Rourke if he was available.
