The best thing for Stevens' development would be to play alongside someone like Jobe Watson.

I doubt he will ever be anywhere near as good, but if you look at the difference between Jobe now and Jobe 4-5 years ago there is Brownlow medal winning proof that players can work on their weaknesses.

I'd obviously rather he stayed at WC and displaced Matt Priddis to become Jobe Watson Mk II, but that is unlikely to occur...

Gotta say im slightly frustrated with the constant digs at his disposal as being appalling when it aint that bad at all.
It isn't bad at all.

THE_GUN seems to be a little clueless though.

Stevens disposal by hand is very good, he is an ok kick on goal and has regained penetration, his general footskills are ok. Better than say Priddis or Sewell. I would call him a solid kick most of the time.

Its no surprise people have been saying his disposal is poor, its probably the weakest part of his game and they need to hone in on something that makes him crap. He is a very well rounded player who does everything well, some has been said that he is average without standout skills but the player I liken him to is Lenny Hayes. What standout skills does Lenny have? He is a star of the game, his hardness and willingness to put his body on the line is what sets him apart. Those intangibles are something that stats dont show regarding Stevens. Just because a player does not run 2.90 20m or kick the ball 60m does not mean they have no other high class AFL traits. In fact, those standout traits that people want are really quite rare in the AFL.

If I could be bothered I would drag up all the threads/posts from people on this board (in particular from our fabulously insightful purple cousins) this time last year saying how crap Ebert was, how he was slow and couldnt kick at all, how he wasnt even a midfielder, how he couldnt even get a game in the finals etc etc etc. Reading that stuff you would have been convinced the guy was a complete crab. Oh shit and then what happens ... low and behold he came second in Port's B+F and all of a sudden its all quiet on the Ebert is a crap and not even worth top 30 pick front and its more like "why would wet toast trade that guy? lulz".

For some reason some people on Bigfooty want to find faults in other teams players who are up for trade at this time of year so they can talk down their value, even if their club are not even involved in a possible deal. I dont know why, perhaps its that guilty pleasure certain humans get when they see another be hard done by and deep down they enjoy it. All I have learnt from experience is that some people get blinded by their desire to find faults that any sort of reason is thrown out the window.

/ End rant

Carry on

You see this is the point im trying to make, Daniel Jackson would be probably in the top 5 most intellegent players playing football atm (I.Q wise) Playing inside midfield he just racks up possesions at will and regurlarly gets over 25 a game, BUT

Disposal kills him & Cant take the next step - Stevens has the same issues but to make it worse he is injury prone

Henry slattery has a masters in agricultural science...intelligence doesn't always translate.
The opposite is true as well, just look at guys like Leigh matthews, he can't string sentences together

Would be a perfect fit for essendon, I rate him very highly as a player.

I like Garlett from what ive seen, good inside mid. Why you guys only offer him 1 year? I would have thought that guys that can win the ball on the inside would be valuable to north.

I like him aswell but he seems to be behind guys like cunnington, ziebell, swallow and co. He should have been given an extended run this year but it just didn't happen. I think the one year deal is simply because he didnt play a lot of senior footy this year. He is a complete player.

That description seems to sound a lot like Stevens- Good young inside mid who deserved a better run than they got, but behind established senior footballers so listed as depth. Id like to have Garlett on our list, but realistically he'd be in the same spot as with you guys.

Pretty much how it is. He has stated that he wants to go back to WA, but he would go anywhere if it meant he had guaranteed game time. Freo wouldn't really be a good fit either considering they have a number of inside mids aswell.

Any word on who the front runners are for KOby, haven't heard much news at all.

cruize garlett wants to head home...any interest from WC?

yes lets take in everyones rubbish. soon as its a WA player thats being delisted or not really in plans, we must have him!!

Relax. Was just seeing if you guys believed that WC would be interested.

Hardly rubbish either. Just not one of Brad Scott's pets so he never got an extended run, despite showing excellent signs when he did play seniors. Anyhow you guys are well off for inside mids so i doubt you will go after him.

Similar problems. I think Freo is his best bet for Perth, or if not perhaps Port would be keen. If Port add Greenwood and Garlett to their side and give them more inside depth then I think it would help them to hold up in the middle.

Garlett in particular is one of may favourite non-regular players. He is stiff. Came on as a sub against the Hawks, had 38% game time and got 15 disposals, 11 contested and 6 clearances. Sub again against Collingwood, 54% ToG, 15 disposals, 6 contested 4 clearances. I just think he could have been a sensational player. Sucks but lack of opportunity does that.

last rookie pick is my guess. we wont be trading for him.

Not of late. All the focus has been on Mitch Brown. Having said that though, I kinda hope we are whispering in his ear to stay now that Swift (the next in line mid) has left. Like you guys with Garlett, i can see him becoming a really good mid now he is free of injuries, I just know he will be the next Kennedy if we trade him away.

Maybe Koby needs a more vocal manager.
