Journalistic licence ypo.

Wouldn't get my knickers in a knot over it. It's not as if it came from an official or even an individual who carried some weight journalistically speaking.
Nor is she ever likely to if she continues writing drivel like that!

This is the only thing that pisses me off, from the article in the Age. "The Geelong runner at the centre of the decision that almost certainly cost Carlton victory over the Cats last week" If I were Geelong I'd be asking for a retraction as that it's simply incorrect.

First time ever a non player contact with time off blown has ever effected the outcome of the game....

meaning its a dead ball foul in essence which was graded as a no harm no foul at the time, then backed bu the umpiring boss as the correct decision and low and behold NOW its a fineable offence.

Ive seen better resolutions by Grade 2 kids....

So umpires boss Wayne Campbell publicly stated that the correct decision had been made as Lappin had not impacted the course of play yet we get wacked with a suspended $2000 fine. o_O

More inconsistencies from the AFL.
It's not inconsistent.
The umpires didn't think its a free.
The AFL don't think it's good conduct.

Why people whinge over and over about the AFL I'll never know.

If Mitch Robinson doesn't carry on like a pork chop nothing would ever have been mentioned.

Can't wait to count how many runners I see around stoppages this round and I bet none of them will get hit with a suspended fine.

Joke !!!!

I think they should just do away with runners anyway. Players are on the bench a lot these days, so surely messages can be given then.

Thats easily the best post in the thread

Most supporters of all clubs i think would believe that runners are on the ground far too much

Watched the Footscray v Melbourne game on the Saturday night - about 4 weeks ago - Joel Corey who was the Dogs runner - was basically on the ground permanently - a top confident umpire - should have told him to feuck off

Don't like any of it. I thought when Lappin stood down as Assistant Coach to become a runner there was something smelly there. The disgraceful cheating by Ross Lyon should not be copied and the rules should not be manipulated, runners run, send messages provide a drink, then piss off quick. Cop it on the chin and get back to the footy. We play the game as it should be played.

Afl is corrupt as shit

Freo runner was atrocious - no action
Hawk runner last year was in brown and was bloking space - no action
Hawk interchange infringement - we are punished

Afl hope asana ream your buttocks

"Our player can't get to the football" bemoaned Mick Malthouse.

No player could, it was a stoppage.

It is hard to impact play when no play is occurring.

Yeah, when he said that I was yelling at the TV "That's because it was under the umpire's armpit!!!"

Mick being Mick.

I think he's lucky it was suspended, I'm surprised he didn't just have to pay the fine outright.

They've only done it to shut up Malthouse's sooking. They why it is only suspended.
But you've got to love seeing Malthouse sook. Of all the coaches you want to see something like this could happen to, Malthouse is my No.1.

Remember MM taking the video of Selwood's free kicks in to the Umpires boss (was it Gieschen or did he and Buckley go to the Umpires' Coach?) just before the 2011 (?) finals?? Can't recall exactly when it was but I looked for info on the timing of that and found this (which I'd forgotten about!) :D

Looks like Mick still has a sore botty from 2011 :D:D:D Deja Vu!! and lol lol lol

Dated May 14 2011:

Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse has described the controversial umpiring decision near the end of their loss to Geelong as "the fastest whistle in history".

The decision meant a goal to Magpies onballer Scott Pendlebury was disallowed and the Catswon an absorbing match by three points, 8.17 (65) to 9.8 (62).
It was the reigning premiers' first loss since round 22 last year, while the Cats are the only unbeaten team after eight rounds under new coach Chris Scott.

With only a couple of minutes left and Geelong up by four points, a free was paid to Collingwood ruckman Cameron Wood about 50m out.

The ball had spilt clear immediately after the free and Pendlebury played on, kicking a massive goal.
But the ball was brought back and Wood's set shot did not make the distance.
Geelong were able to then able to clear the ball from defence and hang on for the win.

Soon after the match, AFL media manager Patrick Keane explained to journalists that the umpire had already blown time on before Pendlebury took his shot, meaning play could not continue.
Keane said the umpire had lost sight of the ball when he had blown his whistle.

Under AFL rules, it is supposed to be up to the team who have possession immediately after a free or mark whether they play on or not.

Malthouse said in his post-game media conference: "I thought we almost got over the line when Pendlebury popped that one through.
Asked if he was surprised the goal was not allowed, Malthouse said: "I thought that (advantage) was the rule, unless they've changed it again, I'm not sure.
"Clearly, to me, it was an advantage."

Lappin was somewhere he shouldn't have been. He didn't impact the play.

Fine is sufficient, but we were lucky. We can't afford to give an attention seeking umpire an opportunity to become a hero by paying a technical free kick to decide a game.
