Wow, people want Leon gone after a few bad or average performances... Thats just sad.

Like everyone, I get frustrated and annoyed watching Leon Davis not get into the game, kicking his unreal goals and doing some magic around the play like last year, but you can't say 'leave the club, your crap' because of the first half of this year. Sure he's had some inconsistency in his performances, but he doesn't play his midfield role like last year, where you can rack up disposals like taking candy from a baby. Take the likes of Swan who is idolized by Collingwood supporters. If you placed Swanny in Leons Pocket Forward position, you would see a large decrease in his disposals and you would see people posting like in this thread that he should be kicked from the team. This position doesn't suit Leon, he is more of a midfield/CHF player who can drift into the forward 50 and kick a few goals and also help out getting the ball down to our forward line if needed. In games like WB he was able to kick 4 goals in his Pocket Forward position, but this was because the ball stayed in our Forward 50 for most of the first three quarters. Then people complained Leon Davis 'wasn't in it' in the last quarter, this was obviously because THE BALL BARELY CAME INTO OUR FORWARD 50 in the last quarter. The forward pocket role is one of the most inconsistent in AFL, especially when it doesn't suit the player.

If you should blame anyone, it would be MM and his coaching staff like Buckley on placing Leon in this role. Sure you can say he gives forward defensive pressure which we needed in games like Brisbane, but if you need it in those games, put him in Forward Pocket FOR THAT GAME but he would still rack up heaps of forward 50 tackles even as a CHF because he floats into the Forward 50 when in that role.

Go Neon Leon.

I actually don't think Leon was that bad against Melbourne. I defy any player to play forward pocket last week in our crowded forward line and have much of an impact. There was just no space to work in for the last three quarters of the game.

He will be more apart of midfield rotations now that Dick is in. I hope he is fit enough to perform like last year.. One thing I am concerned of is if he has adjusted to the new ruck set-up but its still early. Plenty of time before september to show us what he's made of.

Is he a chance at being dropped?

SC? DT? theres a thread for that if you check the links sticky.

I doubt he'll be dropped. His defensive pressure has been pretty good, he kicked 3 goals 2 weeks ago, and it's unrealistic to expect the same consistency when he's still being played as a small forward.

I thought on Monday Dick showed what we expect Davis to do.
Maybe Leon's time is up just as Frasers time is up and for the last 2 years of Rocca's career his time was up. Davis needs to get his mojo back or give it away at the end of the season.

It's funny how people have started to agree with me about Fraser and Rocca, Rocca was gone in 06 when he missed 90% of the season. Fraser IMO has been gone for a very long time, maybe just as long. I would loved to have seen him tried on the wing, but this season he looks like he has lost pace as well as what ever form he had.

Davis should have been traded for a high pick to Freo or West Coast last year, he was an All-Australian who had value for the last time in his career.
We missed the boat there and have to suffer by playing him.

Yep, that high 3rd round pick WCE offered us, we should have taken it straight away.

All Australian or not, you are not getting a first round draft pick for a 29 year old goal sneak.

We did the right thing keeping Leon, wouldn't have got anything for him and he will show his worth in the second half of the season.

Has been played as a permenant forward pocket until Dick returns, and will be released into the midfield from now on.

Plus he will soon become the first indigenous player to play 200 games for us, a great achievement.

We haven't lost one match this year because of Leon, but we have won 2 because of him.
