Wow, people want Leon gone after a few bad or average performances... Thats just sad.
Like everyone, I get frustrated and annoyed watching Leon Davis not get into the game, kicking his unreal goals and doing some magic around the play like last year, but you can't say 'leave the club, your crap' because of the first half of this year. Sure he's had some inconsistency in his performances, but he doesn't play his midfield role like last year, where you can rack up disposals like taking candy from a baby. Take the likes of Swan who is idolized by Collingwood supporters. If you placed Swanny in Leons Pocket Forward position, you would see a large decrease in his disposals and you would see people posting like in this thread that he should be kicked from the team. This position doesn't suit Leon, he is more of a midfield/CHF player who can drift into the forward 50 and kick a few goals and also help out getting the ball down to our forward line if needed. In games like WB he was able to kick 4 goals in his Pocket Forward position, but this was because the ball stayed in our Forward 50 for most of the first three quarters. Then people complained Leon Davis 'wasn't in it' in the last quarter, this was obviously because THE BALL BARELY CAME INTO OUR FORWARD 50 in the last quarter. The forward pocket role is one of the most inconsistent in AFL, especially when it doesn't suit the player.
If you should blame anyone, it would be MM and his coaching staff like Buckley on placing Leon in this role. Sure you can say he gives forward defensive pressure which we needed in games like Brisbane, but if you need it in those games, put him in Forward Pocket FOR THAT GAME but he would still rack up heaps of forward 50 tackles even as a CHF because he floats into the Forward 50 when in that role.
Go Neon Leon.
