From the above depth list the changes I would be looking at making are:

Delisted:

Chris Newman 183cm 81kg 243 games 32 years old 2014

Aaron Edwards 184m 93kg 94 games 30 years old 2014

Jake King 178cm 82kg 107 games 30 years old 2014

Bradley Helbig 185cm 85kg 16 games 22 years old 2014

Matt Arnot 180cm 86kg 8 games 20 years old 2014

All 5 are delisted as I don’t see any of them getting us anything of value at the trade table. The final 2 spots I have 3 players in contention for, they being Arnot Helbig & O'Hanlon. The thing that saves O'Hanlon is his size and flexibility. At 189cm/89kg he can play as a tall winger or a 3rd tall forward. I realise that Helbig and Arnot can also play multiple positions, but sub 185cm midfielder/flankers are a dime a dozen, tall midfielders/forwards with good foot skills aren't.

Trade Table:

Daniel Jackson 188cm 92kg 155 games 28 year old 2015

Dylan Grimes 193cm 88kg 37 games 23 years old 2015

Ben Griffiths 200cm 104kg 29 games 22 years old 2014

Shaun Grigg 190cm 85kg 119 games 26 years old 2015

Jake Batchelor 188cm 87kg 44 games 22 years old 2014

Matthew Dea 186cm 87kg 31 games 22 years old 2014

Not all of these guys are getting traded, so before everyone loses their minds, lets just get that clear. What I'd be looking at is trading 3 of them if possible.

1. All the whispers at the moment are about Griffiths wanting out, if that is the case then I'd be hoping that a 200cm/104kg KPF who can play some ruck sees a bidding war develop. Saints Lions Dogs Fremantle Carlton are all players with picks in the 15-25 range of the draft and all 5 could do with Griffiths on their lists. So getting a pick in this area for us would be a good return on our initial investment on Griffiths.

2. Jackson/Grigg would be a handy addition for a young side looking for some mature bodies to help their kids develop or a team thinking they are close to a flag. Either one IMO would net us a second round pick from a rebuilding side, while we might be able to snare a late first round pick(might take packaging our 2nd round pick) from a side thinking they are close. Put both on the table and see what comes of it, they might not get anything of real value and we keep them. Some will suggest trying to trade a contracted player out is dangerous as if it doesn't work you get s disgruntled player on your list, I'd hope that both would be smart enough to understand that it's business not personal.

3. Grimes/Batchelor/Dea looking at the roles these 3 are best suited to I think we can afford to trade one of them out in the search for a pick in the second round. I think Grimes is capable of getting a second round pick on his own, while Batchelor/Dea would have to be packaged with a draft pick to get it done. Like Jackson/Grigg above I see them being handy for a rebuilding side or a side thinking they are close to challenging.

Summary:
From this aggressive list management we would free up 5 spots immediately which would then allow us to elevate say Miles & Darrou or Thomas to the senior list. With the trade bait we might be able to get ourselves right into the second round of the draft with 3-4 picks to really go hard at snaring some new kids. This might be a pipe dream but if we worked it right we could end up with picks 7, 17, 21, 27, 34 & 45 in the draft. Adding 6 kids from the top 45 of the draft while losing predominately under performing players would be a decent return from a horror year results wise.

The aggressive moves I'd be looking at include:

Delist/Retire:
Stephenson, Gordon, A Edwards, King, Banfield, Helbig, Newman, Thomas, Petterd

Trade table (means only trade if a good offer comes):
Vickery, Griffiths, S Edwards, Elton, Morris, Batchelor, Houli, Jackson, Foley, Deledio, Grigg

Not bad.... I'd give Gordon one more crack at it before Grigg (or keep him and trade Grigg if anyone is that dumb)

With trading players are you talking about trading for picks, players or a combination?

Depends what is offered I guess. Im a fan of trading for picks. Id really like to grab one of the elite talls in this draft and someone like Pickett.

Ok.... but if we offload all of them, we are just going to end up with a glut of 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks.... we need to be doing pick upgrades with player steak knives type deals.... Jackson, Griff and Foley would all help with those (so would TV but I think we are better keeping him depending on what we are offered).... I think we need to get a player or 2 in to help.... Jaksch, O'rourke age.... no Hampson's orThomas's.

Again we look at trading out our shit and expect other clubs to give us 3 ply toilet paper. ....

I think we actually have some guys with relative value (compared to what we have had).... TV, Foley, Jackson and Griff would be a better quality than what we have offered previously....

Work on this list first. Even our "A" graders have gone backwards. That says coaching problem to me, not so much the players

Rookies delisting them makes no difference going forward other than freeing up spots on the rookie list.
Re-signed/drafted last 12 months these guys have either just re-signed or were drafted last 12 months and are on 2 year deals minimum. Won't be traded unless they ask to be.
Long Term Deal Deledio is finishing the second year of a 5 year deal, he won't be going anywhere unless it was him who requested the trade.

Can't delist contracted players.

I would really like to get Petracca in this years draft. Any chance we could offer our
first round with Griffiths to Brisbane, Carlton, Bulldogs, Melbourne?

We need to get a pick before GWS as i believe they would make a move for Petracca

Yeah because good players only play well when they have a coach telling them what to do :drunk:

On our A-graders though. Cotch is better than last year, Martin is better than last year, Lids is playing injured or at least hampered (probably down on last year), Rance is now arguably the best one on one defender in the comp and well do we have any other A graders?

However, I agree that our coaching/footy dept needs boosting. No doubt about that.... I'd like some new assistants and perhaps a new midfield spread coach as our spread seems to stop about 1-2 metres away from the bloke with the pill (exaggeration but sometimes....wow).

No chance of getting a pick high enough imo...

Well who do you suggest we trade out to get into the second round of the draft?

Well who do you suggest we trade out to get into the second round of the draft?

I've suggested TV, Griff, Foley, Jackson or maybe Titch that would get us value (not all of them and I'd prefer to keep most of them). Foley/Jackson trade for a 2nd rounder would be win for us considering what they'll give us over the next 5 years....

Well who do you suggest we trade out to get into the second round of the draft?
In the first un compromised draft in four or five years you will need better bait than in your OP to buy into a second round selection. Try working back from who would get a first round selection and you will see then what's needed for a second rounder. 2nd round picks around 25 will probably equate to pick 15 last year.

For example let's take Rance. Would you part with your first round pick for him? If not then he is the sort of player needed to get you a second round selection. If we could get a pick in the 15-25 range for Griff I would be f****n amazed!

Lets...

Delist Knights - Payout his contract and just wear it.

Look to trade Grigg and Houli. Take anything we can get, as long as we can get them off our list for free. These two blokes are part of the problem at Richmond. Both are soft, have average skills and crumble under pressure.

If Deledio gets all upset about Grigg leaving, trade him too.

Then Delist A.Edwards, Allow Newman to retire (force into coaching).

Also Delist Helbig and O'Hanlon if they show nothing for the rest of the season.

With any luck we'll have got rid of Grigg, Houli, A.Edwards, Newman, Helbig and O'Hanlon, and free up 6 senior spots.

We should also make a call on Jake King based on his fitness. If his injuries are not on the improve and he is not back to 100% delist him as well.

As for the rookie list - delist Thomas (too one dimensional for AFL), Banfield (useless), Darrou (unless he gets a gig and shows something special this year), Williams (hasn't done enough).

Upgrade Miles (obviously), Give Stephenson another year as back-up if he is interested.

Use the 5 rookie list spots on young players 22 and under. If Stephenson goes look to bring in another back-up ruckman.

You talked about being aggressive with trades but for the past couple of years we keep bringing up the same names which I guess have been brought up at the draft table and no one has taken.
partycorolla brings up some good names.

Lids needs a room change. He's the man. He takes us for granted as he can just walk into the side. Yet guys like Crowley and McFluffer have their portraits tattooed on his backside. He needs to be held accountable How can he after 200 games fail to shake a hard tag. We all know he's class but it gets hard to stomach after all these years of his going missing acts in big games

We don't play in big games this year! It's far easier to tag an outside mid than an inside mid too, which doesn't help Lids as he is far more outside than in....

I think we take Lids for granted.... he's stuck around through all the crap, being tagged virtually from the moment he walked in the door (maybe in his 2nd/3rd year) because we were so crap. In that time, he's been durable, performed better than all of the players in our team who don't have to deal with tight tags and who seem incapable of helping someone who has one (is this an RFC trait? We just don't block enough) and has stayed with our rubbish club despite the opportunities to go and earn more coin and have more success elsewhere.... No he's earned our allegiance, we need to earn his and finally be successful....

Disagree he was terrible in big games last year
He would attract a first rounder
