The contract illegal in the eyes of the afl, at that time it was a contract that was legally binding because the afl had no knowledge.

Many contracts are 'secret' i.e. only known about between the parties, that doesn't make them any less enforceable. How do you legally enforce a secret contract? A suppression order? The whole thing seems a bit bizarre to me. Doesn't anyone involved in this mess have a brain?

I'm no lawyer, however I assume that the the side agreement is 100% legal as a stand alone document under Australian & or state law.
However by virtue of the existence of such agreement, all parties have contravened AFL rules, when signing documents lodged with the AFL clearly stating that they have no knowledge or have not entered into any other outside agreements.
Hence Tippetts management could take legal action against AFC for breach. The AFL will take action against all parties or braking of AFL rules.

Not quite true, AFL has not stated this.
This from afl.com.au:
"The AFL said it had started examining all of Adelaide's records that might be relevant to its investigation, but said it had not set a deadline to release its findings".
Age journalist Emma Quayle who broke the story said on SEN this afternoon that even with a full investigation, the AFL believe a decision will be made BEFORE the ND on November 22.
I read an article in the age in which they said Rendell wanted to trade Tippett at the end of 2011 for a decent pick hehe. But is it really terrible luck? maybe it's a bad culture/club, why do so many players leave there? Bock and Davis left for the riches of the expansion clubs but we only lost Fraser to them who wasn't even in our best 22.
I don't mind their culture. They have had really sustained success without bottoming out so I don't see this as being the issue. It's almost as strange seeing Adelaide outside the top 8 as it would be seeing Sydney not in there.
I'd probably lean more towards Adelaide isn't as desirable a place to live as some of the other footballing cities and in the cases of those who left in 2010+2011 they probably didn't really recognise the opportunity for success coming with the retirements of McLeod, Goodwin, Burton and Edwards among others which likely made many think it was an end of an era of sorts.
The curious thing with Adelaide is that over the years whenever they have had key players retire and have bought in a new coach they have performed out of their minds the following year and rebounded in a way we'd think they had no right to both with Sanderson and Craig.
Adelaide supporters actually seem a creative lot!Looks like they're taking it well.

I expressed my sympathy that supporters have to suffer for the sins of their admin and Tippett, but not in the fun thread. Adelaide supporters are doing their own soul searching and don't need outside assistance in expressing anger at what has happened. I feel sorry for the poor buggers because they have lost four good players in rapid succession.Yeah definitely. Some really good humour in there. One of the better boards to visit in my experience, provided you're respectful.

You could use this one:
Adelaide - Used third party payments to try and KEEP the services of a boy they had drafted and developed.
Carlton - Used third party payments to help GAIN the services of the best player in the game from another club.
