walker is played out of position, he is best forward of centre.

cheers

This dude had it right!

I used to think the same (playing up the ground from a HFF, or deep inside F50) but his overhead marking (and aerial ability) have taken a massive hit with the Shoulder reco.

So close.

He's in a form slump. Needs a pre-season to work on his weaknesses. He's valuable to the team because he's a utility who can be played almost anywhere. Must not trade. At his best he's in our best 22. At the moment he is far from his best.

Should be playing forward. Allows him to bring his strengths to the fore and minimises the impact of his weaknesses. However needs to work on his tackling big time over the break.

I do rate Walker and think that with a full pre-season he will be a good player. BUT, he isn't the best in any position and increasingly we are developing players that can assume multiple roles across the ground and perform them better then Walker:

Crumbing Forwards that can take a turn in the middle: Yarran, Betts, Gartlett

Pacy wingman: Simpson, Lucas, Grigg

Rebounding Defender: Gibbs, Russell, Armfield

KPD who runs off: Bower, White, Waite

Tagger: Carrazzo, Joseph, Gibbs

If he gets everything right he could be a good player, but his injuries have ruined what could of been (marking, tackling are considerably worse then they were) and his decision making is still unfortunatly poor. Trade him to a side with a need for pace (St Kilda/Adelaide?) for a low first rounder/early second rounder if we can (His form early on was promising enough) otherwise he will just remain on the list and deteriate as he is usurped from every position

Looks like I didn't think Walker could play as a third tall forward:o

Will gladly admit I was wrong. Good on you for making me look like a complete nincompoop

All joking aside. It is pretty simple isn't it? This guy is just turned 25. Had his 22,23 and 24 years wrecked by shoulder injuries. I don't think he ever read the play that well before that and as such was just taking time codevelop but it was coming. Was a 20ish possessions per game player in his 20 and 21st years. Needed the composure that comes with experience. I don't expect him to continue at his current level, mainly because he will begin to be the first or second forward thought about if he does. But I would expect that given luck he will be a very productive offensive forward who adds run and pressure across the ground. Is sneaking on ball for us and giving us pace run and good hands from time to time. Will do more with both waite and hendo back i suspect. Huge asset to us. I'm glad he stayed. One player I never wanted to let go.

Very happy for the boy.

He's coming out of contract at the end of the year I believe. Talks have started between the club and his management because clearly we don't want him to leave now :P. I'm fairly sure he will re-sign, he loves playing for the Blues especially now he has a new home in the f50.

Been to training a couple of times this year and he's the one working the hardest on his goal kicking. Glad to see that it's paying off. Maybe he can take Waitey under his wing ;)

I wonder if his shoulder injuries had any impact on his kicking? The transformation over the last pre-season for him (and seemingly half of our team) is incredible. Last year, at our best, we were a really creative team that moved the ball fast and were really good at winning the contested ball but lost it too often going forward through poor foot skills. This year, for reasons that are not entirely clear to me, Carazzo, Setanta, Walker, and god knows pretty much the entire team can kick 60m of either boot, in any amount of congestion, to hit a target traveling at full speed in any direction with a lace out piercing pass. Walker does not miss shots at goal.....ever.

Pretty much contradicted yourself in every second phrase. The walker issue served to highlight the nuff nuffs -pretty simple really.

Walker was injury riddled, walker was played on the oppositions most damaging player almost every week, a job later handed to gibbs, those two factors are why Walker appeared to have no idea - but to those who knew, understood, and defended him to the idiots there was a very different story - thats EXACTLY why people defended him, not becuase he really was bad - but because footy nuff nuffs were talking out their arse - exactly like people who slammed Houlian - idiots with absolutely no idea.

Walker has - as we all said he would - shown exaclty what he was always capable of doing, what we all knew he could do if he was played in position and injury free. Nothing else - nothing magic, not goal kicking practice nothing but given a chance.

Walkers presence in the forward line is ABSOLUTELY NOT SIMPLY SET SHOTS - anyone who thinks that needs to have their brain revoked.

There was a video going around of walker playing in the forward line it was to the music of FIRE STARTER - Prodigy - which showed him kicking unbelievable goals, seriously insane video which only really took in his first year or two, it was this which convinced me this guy was special, very special. He had AMAZING awareness from day one, its why he was drafted.

Everyone else is owning up to their crap analysis of walker - almost everyone. Some are justifying it.

The guy is probably the most unjustifiably maligned footy player ever to strap on the CFC - I don't think Deluca received as much..

End Rant.

He's exciting, quick and has a leap. X-factor is a term that gets thrown around a bit, but AW's showing a true definition of this.

Last week, playing deep inside 50 he dominated. This week leading up to the wings showed his versatility. Was one of Carlton's best today - particularly in the first half.

As my name shows, I've seen 5 flags - i can sense number 6 isn't far away and thanks be in a big part to AW!!!

Our forward line is looking very good at the moment, Walker, Betts, Garlett can all push into the middle and play off the wings as well. We have some great options now.

There was an article about Walks where he stated how repetition was the key to goalkicking. Super impressive by Walker.
