In what is a very bleak time for a Blues supporter, in trying to cheer myself up, I took the opportunity to go back and look at some YouTube footage of Levi Casboult:

- Can really 'clunk' a mark.
- Seemed to have a good leap in ruck contests.
- Questionable kicking style.

Don't get to see any Bullants games so can people provide a report card on how you think Big Levi is going ? Can he be an AFL player ?

A team like Sydney would promote Levi for a couple of games at some stage during the season where he would clunk a few marks kick a few goals and give him confidence for the following seasons - like they did with Jesse White.

Our piss poor Development Program would ensure he keep playing for the Bullants on crappy windy suburban football grounds with the a crappy game plan not suited to big forwards (for about 2 seasons) until we wring every ounce of confidence and talent from his being until we delist him.

Thanks - that really cheered me up ! :)

I'm not sure what you are on about. White was drafted in 2006, did not play a game at all in 2007 & was given 2 games in 2008 (Round 6 & Round 18) in which he managed a total of 9 disposals & 0 goals. So the Swans had him playing on "crappy, windy suburban football grounds" in the ACT competition for virtually 2 full seasons.

He's going to be a really big strong bloke, great size and great hands. There aren't that many big tall players getting about who are a good mark, they are so rare, maybe we have a real beauty here. I am not sure where he is at, heard his kicking is terrible. I'm confident that we don't have the right personell to develope tall key position players. Our talls have poor technique with their body use and that stems from bad coaching. I hope he does turn out good, I'm confient he will, I'd love us to play him.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good rant. Sack 'em all! :o

Looove Levi. Still needs to lose some weight and get a heap more fit. He looks right at home in the forward line and has taken some brilliant grabs, kicking needs HEAPS more work, seen him shank a fair few sitters but hey.. could still fit right into Carlton's forward line :p Teague's had him in the ruck the last few weeks since Kreuz has been out and has struggled tbh.. But he's not a ruckman so that's a moot point i suppose. I have a really good feeling about him.. Not just because I am the BF tazzie fiend, but he will become an absolute beast. Levi Casbeast :thumbsu: Get on it.

I can't wait to see Levi in the firsts. Last year he scored something like 40.12 (also spent a lot of time in the ruck) which to me would mean he can't be too bad of a kick.

Add Lewis Johnson to that list...could not be a worse example than Sydney to shore up this rather aimless rant.

Like the report card idea. Don't know if we can do a separate report card for all of the rookies but I would love to hear from any keen VFL reserves watchers on how Peter Labi is performing, and Joe Dare if possible.

I see the Bullants every week and I agree that he is a long term prospect. Obvious strengths are his size and his ability to take a contested grab. He really has those natural hands that you can't teach. He needs conditioning as still a lot of puppy fat on him but having said that I dont think he is an unfit bloke. Early on in the year he had a very odd looking kicking style, really high ball drop, but as the year has gone he has changed this a bit so must be working with someone. He tends to miss the sitters as he kicks the stuffing out of the ball. Will be interesting to see how he goes with a full pre season

This does seem at odds with what most posters say about his kicking; ie shit.

I know its easier to get the ball in lower/country leagues but you still have to slot it.

Surely with stats like the above he must have some positives about his kicking?

Brad Fisher kicked 39.15 in '07, I think it's just a case of stats not telling the full story.

Levi is really just a big kid for now.

Most comments here are on the mark as to his current situation with the CFC
Quite often the difference between making it in the AFL and not, is the determination one has from within.
Levi doesn't cast out that quality to me just yet, whereas someone like a Jonathan Brown did from day one.

He has the hands, the leap and the kick to give it a good shake, but looking at him through the pre-season, you just get the feeling that he may not quite be mentally hard enough.
Time will tell.

Smashed the nail right there. Pretty much the reason anyone doesn't make it at the elite level barring having a body that can't handle the rigours.

All the skill in the world won't get you through without the drive and determination between the ears.

Perhaps the guys getting a game in the seniors should have a hard look at this aspect of their character and see if they think they measure up.

Always thought Tiger Woods was the epitomy of mental toughness (in a work sense of course).

I believe that he got a lot of his shots fairly close to goal which inflated his goal to behind ratio. The sheer size of him meant he could pluck marks right infront of goal.

His kicking will get better IMO. I also think that he is fairly agile for his size. Not the most athletic person but good enough for AFL standard. So I don't think he would be exposed on the rebound like Cloke did.

Well lots of posters on here have been calling for a big pack marking forward working close to goal so hopefully Levi steps up in time to become that guy.

Hendo playing the lead up and bombing the odd long one into Levi.:thumbsu:

Don't discount his intense pre season. All the hype of being drafted to the club he follows, getting exposed to all the media hype of the booze cruise and in the same week being involved in a fatal car accident does something to the mentality of a kid. It's a HUGE culture change for him and he's just a kid. Time will tell if he can shrug all of that on and grow stronger from it. He seems like a quiet kid and looks to be fitting in well. I think next year will be much better for him :thumbsu:

Living in perth the only time I have seen him play live was in the praccy match against the eagles in feb.

He looked a bit out of depth and the main worry was his intensity.

He dropped a simple mark when all by himself, an opposition player ran straight past picked it up and he didn't chase, just turned his back and headed back to the forward line.

If he can improve this and get his body AFL conditioned then I can definately see him getting a game next year with our forward line issues at the moment.

It was one of his first ever outings in a different state with Carlton and the whole team was pretty awful. You can't really hold that performance against him?

He can't do any worse than the crap we have there now. :thumbsu:

Exactly right, it was his first outing in the navy blue, you would think he would be doing everything he could to impress not being lazy. Other first gamers like Donaldson and Lucas had no trouble.

How many kicks failed to score Sin?

Not a go at you, just a pet hate with goal kicking accuracy stats. Like with Fev. It doesn't take into account his shanks that go OOB or shots that fail to make the distance.

IMO score stats should read, G.B. DNS. :thumbsu:
