Licuria should look at becoming like Ling

Looking at Cameron Ling's season he has improved out of sight because he has gone back to what he was good at - tagging good players out of the game & getting plenty of touches going the other way. When Geelong tried to turn him into a ball getting midfielder he just didn't do enough damage, he still got the ball but although his skills are OK he was not an A grade midfielder. He is not quick but is super fit so can run with anyone. He has been awesome this year tagging & stopping some great players getting the ball which is much more value than what he gets himself - they are just a bonus.

Licca was exactly the same, he made his name taking out good players & getting heaps of touches on them. We then made him into one of our midfielders which he was OK at but he doesn't hurt the opposition enough, they are much happier if Licca has it & Lockyer, Swan, Didak etc don't.

Turn Licca into a tagger again!! Starting with Bartel this weekend.

I raised this point in a thread late last year as I felt it was the only way licca could prolong his career. He has tagged on a few occasions this year. He tagged kerr earlier in the year and got smashed. I have the greatest admiration for licca but I reckon his time is almost up. When he used to tag he still got 20 odd touches. He has never been a great user of the pill but has gone backwards. He also looks slower than he used to be(in mind and body) maybe the game has become to quick for him. Lings not quick but he is a bit taller and uses the ball better so he has a few more strings to his bow.


I would love him to prove me wrong but I have my doubts.

Game has gone past him. Young kids are too quick for him and most of the A grade onballers are super fit these days so that's not a advantage as much as it was in 2001 2002. Gives away too many stupid frees too.

a friend knows a girl who goes out with Ling. We were bagging bloodnuts at work and the ling topic came up, she blurted it out.

Agree with the above, Licca doesnt do enough with the ball, the quality of his posessions are poor, i seriously doubt he has the speed now to tag good players.

I think the sad reality is this could and should be the last year for licuria at collingwood. Just doesn't have the skills or the speed for the game. Doubt we would get anything for him. Would be sad to see him delisted but the tough decisions have to be made if we are to win a premiership in the years to come.
