If you drop Jong after last nights game you drop many others with him. Has a few credits in the bank still for mine from his last 3-4 games, and he just became a hell of a lot more important with Wally out.

I think I've read (and even wrote ) this exact same post about 100 times over the last 4 years. I'm getting to the point where we should start thinking about calling a spade a spade.I personally think Jong has a shitload of upside.
What's letting him down as far as I can see if confidence and decision making. His physical attributes; marking, pace, strength, tackling, acceleration, run and carry are second to none. He just needs to work out how to best utilise these attributes. He's a rare player who has all the tools required, but hasn't quite worked out how to use those tools to best effect. If he ever works this out he will be a force to be reckoned with

How would you call it?I think I've read (and even wrote ) this exact same post about 100 times over the last 4 years. I'm getting to the point where we should start thinking about calling a spade a spade.
I think the "if he can put it together" and "huge potential" parts I think it's almost time for these clichés to be put away. More and more they are seeming like wishful thinking. How would you call it?
I think that I'm being realistic in my assessment; seeing the spade for what it is. He's an average footballer as it stands, but he has many elite attributes. If he can pull it all together he has HUGE potential. If he manages this or not is another question, but his ceiling is very, very high. I think personally I will reserve my judgement on Jong until this time next year, if he hasn't pulled it together by then he probably won't
Jong will not be dropped on that performance. He was one of our players that tried his guts out, sure he made some mistakes but he did some very good things too. His pressure and speed was something we would miss. Biggs and Suckling should be under the pump more than Jongy, there turnovers coming out of the backline were absoloubty horrendous.
He showed signs last night of how he can perform at his best. Some players develop early, some players develop late. But he has shown incremental improvement consistently, and if he can continue to show this he may well be a handy player come the time we are challenging for a flag seriously. I'm happy to keep him aroundI think the "if he can put it together" and "huge potential" parts I think it's almost time for these clichés to be put away. Maybe this is the best he can be, maybe all we can expect from now is at most an incremental improvement.
That first half was the worst performance I have seen since the Mulligan/Skinner days, he was horrendous.
There was a few times he ended up in the chain of handballs firing it back inboard without looking and turning it over, just not good enough in the heat. Topped it all off with a simple dropped mark when a rebound was on the cards, luckily he tackled well & got a ball up but it shouldn't have happened

The quick hand pass to a disadvantage is the most frustrating thing I find with Jong, especially when he is not under particularly strong pressure. Just wish he'd back himself and either charge through or wear some pressure and size up the best options. Maybe he'll never develop that confidence, but if he does he could be a great asset. I'd be telling him he has a license to be tackled for a few games.
If Liam Jones or Jaryd Grant had played a game that bad in the 5th year 99% would be calling for a lynching and trade. Of wait that's right everyone did.
You can put a tomato on the window sill and hope and pray it will become a pumpkin but it will never happen and continuing to think it will is close to insanity.
Boiled down - with Jong, more often than not,
the bad outweighs the good.
Unlike with many developing footballers who need to develop a tank or strength. Under pressure, he needs to develop game awareness, ball handling, hand balling, vision and kicking. Don't see it happening to any great level - it's not just a matter of going for a run or pumping some weights.
Hope we move him on for what we can. IMO he has reached his potential and it clearly isn't enough - let others pay for fools gold.
Absolutely not true. He is the greatest handball one metre to an unsuspecting teammate there ever was.Unfortunately all you have stated here appears spot on.
Yes he tries hard but simply is elite at nothing, damaging to us against good teams and there are players in the VFL better now with more potential not getting a game.
LINSANITY, sorry MD could not resist. If Liam Jones or Jaryd Grant had played a game that bad in the 5th year 99% would be calling for a lynching and trade. Of wait that's right everyone did.

Thumb screws? if he can't bend his thumbs he can't handball.Yep, Hot potato sums up his problem. Credit where it is due he has improved his ability to find the ball. He is a regular 20 possession player at AFL level.
But he seriously needs to do 1000 clearance drills where you are not allowed to handpass the ball under any circumstances.
Trade time for Jong.
Literally how do you kick it straight to an opposition player whilst we have 3 free men inside forward 50 and under absolutely no pressure.
Do you know this to be a fact of are you just emoting?NOT EVEN COLLINGWOOD WANTS HIM!
... No other AFL team will give us anything now. ...
