Lineup for round 1 2009 ?

Ahh but the training drills I saw yesterday we were setting up our forward line with 3 talls each. So you need one on the bench to cover a possible loss during a game or as a rotation option across the centre half forward position.

Yes, I believe I saw a similar drill when I went, ideally you'd probably have 3 tall forwards, 3 tall defenders, a ruckman and a tall on the bench, (and I use the word "tall" loosely) with a 2nd ruckman being either the tall on the bench or one of the forwards/defenders. As a side we may not need that bench tall to be a ruckman if we have both Tippet and Moran in the side, if Gill is fit, he's the one to come into Vaders lineup, if not, it will be very interesting.

The other point is Walker. He's not a prototypical 'tall'. He's more a tall like Modra was a tall. He'll be a focal point, but nimbleness and ground skills will allow for another front line 'tall' to be added.

I see the FF line with:
Walker (lead up target, like Welsh, only better ;) who will see the majority of looks as we enter 50)
Tippett (played as an anchor near the square, spending most time between 0-40 meters. Used as a bomb option when no leads are present. With Walker taking off the load for a deep target, he wont see as many defender to beat and will be able to take advantage of his great arial work and good self crumbing ;) )
Small (whether it be Jacky (if ready) Douglas (if not in the midfield) and a Cook, a little goal sneak will be needed to hang aroung the big men and capitalise when it hits the floor)

Then the CHF line I can see more of a lead up anchor combo as well here.
Hentschel/Gill (both injury allowing, can provide a very good hit up option, pushing from the 50 to the defensive wing area. Gills kicking is much better away from goal so there's a plus. Both have good pace and with 2 summers on a bike for Trent, both should have elite endurance.)
Sellar/Gill/McKernan(short chance considering poor endurance) (I see this possy being more of the long kick to the edge of the square option. The kick where the ball in centered after hitting up the flanks. All are good solid marks and can move around fairly well.
Vince/Porps/Goody (a pacey leading mid with arial ability as well as a leading/crumbing option. A rest spot for our mids who are forward inclined.)

Yeah, my thoughts have been mirroring this, only at this stage I see our lead up CHFs being a Stevens/Gill combo (I just can't bring myself to put Hentschel in my side yet), both are aerobically very strong and will run, present and create a contest all day long, with Tippet and Walker the longer options. I'd then have the likes of Goodwin, Edwards, Porplyzia, Douglas, Thommo and co cycling around this lot, providing some "star" power and smaller options.

He has the height and size to be a legitimate key forward, but his style of play is more along the lines of a ROK/Brad Johnson type.

With mackay training so well, is he in the best 22? He played the majority of the games last year (16 IIRC) and looks to be a beauty from what ive seen.

He is absolutely in the best 22, and in my opinion will be starting on the ground by the end of the year.

I'm as big a fan of Mackay as anyone, but he is still on the fringe. Having said that, if he is fit, he will play 22 games simply by the logic that we will not have an empty injury list all year. First 25~ players, definitely. The other major concern is his tank. It didn't last him the whole year and because he lacks an extra yard of pace, he was relegated mid-season, even with 2 full pre-seasons under his belt.

His form last year coupled with his trainging form this preseason and his added weight, he'd be in my best 22 easy.
