No problems with him? Really? His fumbling, slow brain, poor decision making and petrified intensity do not concern you? His inability to turn draft camp speed into football speed doesnt worry you? A complete lack of one on one talent no problem? The fact he can't really lock down a guy, either tagging, or off half back, without COMPLETELY sacrificing any likelihood of getting the ball a concern?

He has an ever reducing chance of making it IMO. He is coming into his fourth year and yet is no certainty to be in our starting 22. If that doesn't concern you I'm not sure what would.

To be honest windows, that coudl be said about half of our team based on last year's performances.

2008 = new coach, new philosophy, new players :) :thumbsu:

We shouldn't accept Fev's character flaws..

I'm not suggesting we do, but rightly or wrongly, the club has thrown their lot in with Fevola, which indicates they believe both our chances for success are just around the corner, and he is on the right track.

Hopefully you're going to have to get used to the fact we aren't going to have top 5 picks in the draft for a looong time. :)

Just like the good old days.

I think Cloke can play CHF....he doesn't need to be motoring around the whole ground...what he can do is creat the space needed for Fev to work into...imagine Cloke using his muscle around CHF to clear the passage for Fev, Fish, Waite to work into???

Very similar to an Earl Spalding type....bullocking at CHF i say!!

As for Hartlett, i think after 3 years, 4 games and more injuries tahn we can count its time to have a year without injuries and an impact.

Imagine if, lets say another club got Hartlett from another club...similar to Morton at Richond, we would all be saying that Hartlett isn't worth it, 3 years, 4 games, injuries....i think the same applies here.

Its make or break for Adam...

Russell will be good in 2008, playing along side Judd will help him, he will be used more forward i think on the flank....and after what i thought was a strong second half of the year he should be fine...plus he is only 21!!

And Lance did have the tank to play CHF??

Dont underestimate the Clokemeister :)

Completely agree. Don't think people understand what a difference it will make to our flexibility if he stays on the park. The same goes for that lazy streak of duck-shit, Hartlett.

I'll add this though. If Cloke's shoulder goes again our medical department should be sacked. I don't want to hear about how they were supposed to know - they should know. If his shoulder is at all likely to go again it would be the end of him and leave us in shit plenty. He should have been delisted if there was any likelihood of the same injury recurring. Sounds harsh but I will be so ****ed off if it happens.

Did I just see you agree with AWG??? JOisus, I really need to stop drinking this early in the day

I think most Carlton fans respect the effort he put in prior to injury. I also think most Carlton fans don't knock him too much, they just think he is an interim solution until Hampson/Kruezer are up and running. Of course the Hammer may not come through meanin we need the meister longer. I'm sure Kruezer will be a class act!

The other thing to remember is that Cloke had ample opportunity at the Pies to establish himself and came up short to any number of factors. He came to us with his career on the line and put in a number of good games. Who is to know that if he had played more games he might have reverted to his old ways that lost him his spot at the Pies, a club that persisted with him longer than necessary given he was a Cloke. Either he has had an epithany and seen the light (hope so) or he will eventually (half way through a season) revert to his Collinwood standard (not good enough)

Don't know about ample opportunity. A year or two to develp (standard for a tall) and 21 games in two seasons, as we know marred by injury.

Scotland was still viewed as a back up utility and saw a hell of a lot of pine before taking his chances with the Blues.

If cloke can maintain the higher standards he showed last year before injury , I'm sure he'll be around a while but Thylacine also raises a good point regarding the injury and maintenace of it . Hopefully all is and remains good on that front as he has a lot to offer IMO .

What do we need to balance our list?

Forwards, forwards and even more tall forwards with Fevola turning 27 this year and Fisher likely to injury himself getting out of bed. Our rebuild might take a little longer that first thought when our picks are taking the place of a dud, whilst WCE, Collingwood, Hawthorn, St Kilda, Geelong, etc. only add to their depth when they recruit a young gun. Goddard, Wells, Mclean and maybe a Mundy would be in our best 22 players each week and allow Gibbs and Murphy the freedom to run free instead of being key players as teenagers finding their feet.

Who said the draft penalties haven't hurt us?

Every time we lose - the draft penalties. Move on.

Where did I say the draft penalties were to blame for the loss when the topic is our playing list and depth?

I'm saying we add Gibbs, Kreuzer and Hampson to our first 22, but Hawthorn, Port and Geelong further strengthen list by adding a Rioli, Thorp, Boak, Hawkins and Selwood to their squad. Apparently I'm blaming draft penalties for the loss and not stating the loss off the picks has hurt our depth across the board. Not trading Lance to get another senior player and add some cream to our early picks like the Hawks did with Hay and Thompson has hurt us more than picking Russell.

And we're still playing catch up despite having so many early picks.

Rucks/KPP

Red - Gone Orange - On trial Green - Keepers

Ackland.
Aisake.
Cloke.
Hampson.
Jacobs.* do not think he will make it, probably need to look for 1 more ruckman soon to either draft or rookie list.
Kreuzer.

Tall forwards

Edwards - really needs to prove his worth this year or may not last much longer
Fevola.
Fisher.
Hartlett. great potential, but injuries may make him unviable
Waite.

Tall defenders.

Austin.
Bower. I really can't see this guy making it. Sad but thats how I see it.
Jamison.
Setanta O'hAilpin.
Saddington. good depth player, we probably still need him atm. Not in 1st 22 though.
Thornton.
Waite.

Midfielders/wings

Bentick. Bentick and Blackwell are still the bottom of the midfield tree for me and will have to work really hard to prove that they deserve to stay around after this year
Blackwell.

Carrazzo.
Gibbs.
Grigg.
Hadley.

Hill.* Nothing negetive about these 2 rookies, they will just need to show something to get elevated thats all.
Joseph*

Judd.
Murphy.
Scotland.
Simpson.
Stevens.
Walker.

Small/Medium defenders/taggers.

Anderson.
Armfield. Love this guys enthusiasm, but not sure if he is really able to find his own ball and will have plenty of competition for a spot in the BP.
Bannister. will struggle 4 a spot in 1st 22 and needs to prove worth to keep a spot after '08

Browne.
Jackson.
Pfeiffer.

Shields.* see other rookie comment.

Small/Medium forwards.

Benjamin. will be under pressure to fulfill potential or else
Betts. Still needs to improve output, seems to have hit a bit of a wall and others may overtake him.

Ellard.* IMO will definitely be elvated. Is 1 that may eventually take over Betts place.
Houlihan.
Russell. See Bannister
Wiggins. See Bannister

* rookie listed players.

This is how I see it.

What we need. i would go tall in our next draft, I reakon we need 1 more ruck and some more quality options for our spine (read CHF & CHB) would be good.

When looking @ smalls and mids, I really hope that we will go for footballers with good skills over athletes who might be quick or tall, but have dodgy disposal.

Would you trade Fevola so we have three first round picks in the next draft to start the rebuild of our forwardline?

I doubt we would get 2 first round picks for Fev anymore - 1st and 2nd round perhaps. Especially given that this is a supposedly strong draft. I've always been a strong advocate of trading fev though for mine it will depend on how our other players develop.

If either edwards, hartlett, setanta can kick 30+goals this year (ie 1.5/game) then I would be prepared to make a deal (pick around 8-12+ another pick 18-22 range). If for example the player was setanta, then the 09 fowardline would be fisher+setanta+kreuzer as 3 talls (+cloke/waite/edwards rotating through). Should do the job especially given the vastly improved midfield/continuing development of younger players.

30+ goals for the season isnt asking too much and in fact I might even do the trade if one of those players kicked 22+ (ie 1/game). The main reason being that Fev continues to accumulate injuries/niggles that I can envision slowing him down in future seasons (5 surgeries last season, expect more end of this season etc) - combined with the questionable tempermant and strong draft it would be very tempting.

Assuming we finished 7th and one PP (richmond) we could end up with picks 8+11 (fev trade)+19 (fev trade).
