What do we think Motlop can be?

Don’t think he’s ever gonna be in the elite category for small forwards but it’s always fun having the magical small forward

Betts and Garlett were just so enjoyable.

Is a consistent 30 goal a season player reasonable?
Motlop can be elite. He is 18. His application to training will decide how good he can be. Just not strong and fit enough.

Wasn't he missing from the back end of the VFL season as well?

Perhaps there's some personal stuff going on and the club are just trying to manage the conversation/announcement in a way that doesn't cause undue angst for the bloke?

Voss: "Head to the meeting room all those who are playing next year"

"FOGARTY - where do you think you're going ??"

Hoping we are having a serious crack at Sean Darcy.

If we trade setters it will go down as another mistake similar to trading casboult. Our club is riddled with injuries and setters has been robust and showed in the last couple of rounds he can play. But only on a 1 y deal.

The 1 year deal or placement on the rookie list may well be the only options put to him and he’ll likely explore other suitors for a longer term deal.

Our depth was in the guts was tested in the final month and setters did perform admirably in the last two games but I’d be surprised if he can secure anything more than a 1 year deal at absolute best from the Club.

That is not beyond the realms of possibility. Setters is a good player better suited in the inside. Knew when we traded Cerra and Hewett, something would give. We can’t play them all and we can’t keep them all under a salary cap. Right or wrong, we have to make value judgements. Same apples to Dow who we will let go if the right offer comes along. Dow has deficiencies, but plenty of weapons.

Our midfield is still relatively young. We shouldn’t lose any frontliners inside five years. Walsh and Cerra are only 22 and are established stars. We also have a couple of young guns in Carroll and Kemp who have had their development impacted by injury and the Covid years who could conceivably be front line midfielders.

We can’t keep them all, it is just a shame it will likely to be for token picks.

It’s stunning to me Fogarty hasn’t been delisted.

Yes you may be right, there could be personal issues involved , these maters are delicate and have to be managed appropriately.

I just don't see why he'd move, to be honest.

Jackson is a passable ruck, but it's his value as a utility/second ruck that really elevates him. I'm not sure you'd want to be relying on him to ruck full time.

More likely to see Meek and Lobb pushed out so they can run a Darcy/Jackson wombo-combo.

I thought the word was that Jackson wanted to be first banana. Wouldn't hurt to ask the question. The bloke is a beast and plays with that bit of nastiness about him. Probably a pipedream but a man can dream.

I hadn't seen or heard that anywhere. Not to say it's not true, there may be something in it.

That being said, it would seem to make more sense for there to be a swap of Jackson and Darcy with picks to balance it, seeing as Melbourne have reportedly been into Grundy as a Jackson replacement. If Darcy is gettable because Jackson is coming in, then surely the Dees just take Darcy in the trade and leave the injured and overpaid Grundy to someone else.

Pretty much. Acres averages 7 disposals more per game.

a little less if you remove games as an unused sub but think its still 5 disposals less per game (Newnes used a bit as a backmen when needed would also impact)

Acres would be a slight upgrade on our wings as they were in 2022 but we've also backed in our wingmen for 2 more years so be interesting to see how they develop

From everything I’ve read since Saturday night people are head over heels thinking he’s a steal cause he got a few stats on the weekend.
If he was better than average he wouldn’t be the kind Freo would be low balling in his ‘prime’ regardless of Jackson. If he was worthwhile of keeping in their minds they’d be coughing up the extra 100k a year or whatever it took, plenty of ways to clear salary cap space on a list.
I'm excited about it... but I am because the best we were ever going to do this trade period is pick up a cheap role player who is best 22, an upgrade on what we have and plays in a position of need. And he is all of those things, so if this goes through as reported for pretty cheap, then that's a great result.

We missed finals because our "bottom six" are inconsistent from week to week and made crucial skill and decision errors in key moments - if we're going into matches next year without having to worry about potential liabilities on both wings that's a major step forward
Going alright if Charlie Curnow is in our bottom 6 😜

Injury rehabilitation & List management , player development must have full focus.
It’s untenable otherwise, we need sophistication, better sensitivity & competence in these areas. Something ain’t right.
They are our very clear weakness, rectify these and we’re top 4 material easily whilst Charlie & Harry are dominating.

That only works if Setters agrees to a 1 year deal - if someone else comes knocking with a 2 year deal, what do you do then? Are you offering 2 years or letting him go?

I’d be offering Setterfield a one year deal with triggers for a second.

Had a strong second half of the year but we shouldn’t forget where he came from. There may be reasons for it we don’t know, but his 2021 was awful.

On the back of a decent 2020, it was one hell of a regression. I remember seeing him up close at Carlton v Bullants VFL in Preston - he was running for the afternoon having broken his hand - he literally looked a shadow of his former self. Almost looked sick.

We hope he won’t regress back to that level but if he does, we’re not locked into that second year.

And I disagree with you on Levi also. Love the guy and wish him nothing but the best, and he had a good year, but we had to move on - for his sake, and for ours.

I’m glad we finally did.
