If we are entering a rebuild I’d be ruthless

Time to trade Wines and bring in Tom Sparrow as a FA from Melbourne as the replacement
You aren't trading Wines in this market unless it nets you a first rounder. And I cant see that happening

if he leaves then in most cases the 3 x 1st rounders are going to be picks between 15 & 26+ due to Tassie coming into the competition and any free agency (after pick 10)

if that is the case I want a sweetener for each 1st round pick that is past 15 (to make up for lost value)

this sweetener can be either a 2nd round pick or a young player who has played under 60 games

for example, if we use the Bulldogs
1x 1st round pick 2026 = pick 17 - Sweetener player either Ryley Saunders (186cm - 48 game mid) or Joel Freijah (191cm 38 game mid)
1x 1st round pick 2027 = pick 25 - Sweetener 2nd round pick
1 x 1st round pick 2028 = pick 23 - Sweetener Jedd Busslinger (198cm - 7game - KPD)

we could add a 2nd round or 3rd round pick to go with Butters

if they dont like it then they can try and get top first round picks from West Coast, Melbourne, North Melbourne & Essendon
It would be up to the Bulldogs to get better picks. They will have to trade and really if they get Butters they will be set with their squad for a while.

I would do Butters straight up for Sanders, Frejiah and their first rounder. Add Jed in there as well.

Big hole in KPD just in terms of numbers let alone proven talent.
In 2027 we'll have..

Aliir 32yo
Ratugolea 28yo
BZT 28yo
Ramm 20yo

Had a quick look at out of contract (don’t know status) opposition KPD’s that are either from SA or playing away from home state, put their ages for start of 2027 season..

Zane Zakostelsky 21yo
Lewis Young 28yo
Oscar Adams 23yo
William McCabe 21yo
Liam Fawcett 21yo
Jedd Buslinger 23yo
Yep. I would love a couple of young, intelligent, soft handed marking KPDs who are a good kick.

This is a major area we need to address and fast. We do have Dougie and Pilot coming in so they might have to play down back.

Let's be 'ruthless' by bringing in a 26 year old whose supporters almost universally want him delisted on a big FA contract. Great start to the rebuild.

Who said big contract?
I could be wrong but from what I have seen Sparrow looks serviceable.
Played on a HFF which hasnt helped i would say.

Enter a rebuild you cut the list and a 31yo inside mid on 900k a year is probably not going to be in your next tilt.
Wines is a FA - More a thought and assessment to see if a Collingwood or Hawthorn are offering big enough money to trigger a decent compensation pick.

We held onto Boak for too long purely from a story point of view.
Hawks are a good example of how things could be done to fastrack.

Thinks its a discussion point rather than something to be completely dismissed.

Just ask for the 3 players and 3 first round picks :)

If picks are going to be so compromised, it has to have high potential tried players included

Wines isn't on 900k a year, the only year he got that (close to 1 mil) was his Brownlow year.

I get your point, I'm not against trading Wines but the only way is if we get a pure first rounder.

Clubs should have been working on getting the Butters capital last trade period. The fact that clubs like the bulldogs havent says everything about how the new rules, combined with general victorian arrogance is going to screw us. This is also where the Houston deal will come back to bite us. We've flinched and other clubs know this.

I like that deal, with maybe a sweetener first round pick thrown in.. maybe Will might see a change in scenery as the best way of getting back on the park.

Will day? Lol

This board has long had issues with port injury prone players and I’ve raised the “grass is greener” port board sickness for years.

the dude isn’t injury prone , he’s just injured. It’s never just unlucky type of stuff, his body just can’t handle AFL. Full stop. Love his talent , but anyone taking him on would want to be paying for a part time employee.

Bailey Banfield an FA, probably better value than Fiorini. Jordan Butts also an FA.

I can’t tell if doctor troll?

The type of players we’ve been targeting and now find ourselves with a list full of back end of list trier types relying on playing second fiddle to the cpl of stars we have.

If our club has balls they need to be making noise now that we want a kings ransom for butters , teams better be willing to negotiate on players , or we can match and butters can choose port or Essendon , cause three zero chance any melb club passes on him in any draft.

Whether this club has grown some balls I will remain skeptical.

But yeah, butters is about to become the highest paid player in the history of the game, in an era teams are valuing superstars more than ever and were about to hit another expansion era of drafts amid heavier and heavier compromised drafts.

a club can shove their middling draft picks. If thy don’t want to part with something for him there’s other teams who would love him.

Didn’t the Houston trade get us Murphy Reid and Whitlock, plus more. I think that’s a good deal. We stuffed that by adding Luko and taking Berry
They tangled it up to blur how screwed we were, but if we undo that, I think Port got Whitlock for taking Ratkins as a salary dump. Nothing to do with Houston.

Sparrow isn't going to be 'in our next tilt' either, not because he's old but because he sucks. And if we lost Wines to FA and brought in Sparrow, all that would do would be cancel out the Wines compo.

Will Brodie is a better player than Sparrow and he didn't make our team on the weekend even with Wines out suspended. Sparrow would add nothing and cost plenty.

I wonder whether anyone has thought about the fact that the club don't want to declare him as gettable because he hasn't told them that yet. You cannot tell the world that this is the price when you don't know if the player wants to leave. The club wouldn't want to make the decision for him

I can’t see how ports list management team putting a record offer in front of him, and letting teams know we won’t be dudded if they want him is somehow going to influence his decision to go.

“Omg, they told a team they expect a good trade , that must mean they don’t want me”

Said No player ever

No, it tells the player that the club doesn't mind him leaving or are open to it. We shouldn't ever portray the view that we are open to Zak leaving for the right price. Then we already concede

Absurd suggestion.
Yeah and I'd call your suggestion absurd too but we are each entitled to our opinions. What I would like our club to come out and say is that the media love towards Zak to get him home is embarrassing and disrespectful to our football club because he's our player as of now. Make a statement that no one from the club other than Zak and his management will respond to any questions related to him.

I mean Josh Carr is the one on the hook for performance, so he certainly should be making noise about it if the media hit him up

He should be saying if you want to give him the biggest contract ever the expectation is we want the most first round picks ever

He’s 31 there’s no Godfather offers unless we accept a horses head.

At 31 surely you would trade wines for a second probably, but i think hes worth more to keep in terms of just keeping the list profile not too young and lacking experience.
