Keeping Maley complete waste of a list spot. He’s not an AFL player, not good in the ruck, except for the odd flash does **** all up forward. The clubs socials around him have gone very quiet, it was a wankfest over a player who isn’t a player.

I’d keep Welsh for another year, making improvements this year.

Keeping Jones won’t amount to much, very similar to when we lost Chris knight to free agency and got nothing back.

Butts vs Murray isn’t a choice as Butts has received the offer and wants to leave. Ideally we keep both
Isn't Tasmania compulsorily required to trade like 50% of their draft picks? Surely in that world we get something at least?

We'll make the minimum amount of changes

Delisted: Maley, Ryan, Sholl, Jones

In: Bailey, 3x Draft Picks
There's a fair chance that Tex retires... though we've been saying that for at least the last 3 years, and he could just as easily go on in 2027.

I think they'll be looking to trade ROB, and I think he would be open to being traded (having spent most of the year in the SANFL) - I just don't think they'll find any takers. He's contracted, so his destination club would need to trade, and I don't see that happening. Credit to ROB, who hasn't complained about having to play in the SANFL (at least not publicly) - unlike Sam Jacobs who threw the toys out of the cot and refused to play SANFL Finals.

I think we need to upgrade Borlase at the end of the year, so you need to factor that into the draft picks as well - it reduces our ND picks by 1, but increases the RD picks by 1.

Looking at the list of currently uncontracted players:
Brayden Cook
Lachlan Sholl
Jordan Butts
Chayce Jones
Billy Dowling
Luke Pedlar
Mitchell Hinge
James Borlase (R)
Oscar Ryan
Charlie Edwards
Tyler Welsh (R)
Zac Taylor
Taylor Walker
Hugo Hall-Kahan (R)
Indy Cotton (Cat b Rookie) Not sure of expiry date
Maley

I'd suggest the following:
Re-sign: Cook, Pedlar, Hinge, Borlase (will need upgrading to senior list), Edwards, Taylor, Hall-Kahan, Cotton
Want to Re-sign, but may leave via FA: Butts
Retire: Walker (maybe)
Delist before trade period: Jones, Ryan, Welsh, Sholl
Likely delist after trade period: Dowling, Maley

With Butts, NMurray, Keane and Borlase, we have 4x AFL standard KPDs - but only 2 of them can play most weeks. This is bound to be creating tensions at the contract negotiation table. With Butts & Borlase both out of contract this year, do not be surprised to see someone wanting to exercise their FA rights, in the hope of finding a home where they are guaranteed weekly selection.

Re-sign (in order of priority) - Cook, Taylor, Butts or Borlase, Hall-Kahan, Cotton

Re-sign on the cheap - Hinge (unless we get an offer for him), Edwards

Re-rookie - Welsh

Trade or lose to FA - Edwards, Butts or Borlase

Delist - Dowling, Ryan, Sholl, Jones, Maley

Bit of a clean out, but now’s the time for that ahead of Tassie.

Norwood can't seem to find a ruck. Poor list management on their behalf. Maybe they'd be keen.
Good news is if he went to Nord he would be taken in the MSD

Didn’t cook sign for 2 more this year?
There was a story that he was about to but no confirmation yet

If ROB does leave we'll need another ready to go ruckman on the list. Preferably cheap. Not sure either T Murray or Maley are viable No 1 options if McAndrew got injured.

I've given up thinking we might draft a young ruck. Clearly we've decided not to do this under any circumstances

Would be keen on Henry Smith , but **** dealing with Brisbane after last year

Ethan Reid another , can’t get regular games at GCS

He might be a priority but we won't go all in. How many years are you offering? I think it's a fairly basic contract.

If we fall into the trap of trying to keep everyone at all cost we will pay a price in a few years.

I think he’s fringe, I’d not be offering much. He’s a free agent, so has an easy path out, not sure if that changes LM mindset. Would they prefer to lose someone they can haggle over?

Borlase a UFA - Jon Ralph reporting that a lot of clubs are coming hard for him.

And this is why it should have been Tex or Laird that was rookie listed. There’s no risk of another club picking them up as delisted free agents. Borlase is on verge of being a ‘break out’ player and we have no hand in negotiations.

Can’t see him leaving if Butts goes

The problem is that he cannot be 100% confident that Butts will go until it’s announced. By that time he’s been considering bigger offers and more certain game time for months and has already made op his mind. Plus, he knows he can just walk to the club of his choice, so need to worry about us playing hard ball.

Leave the development to the other clubs and pinch them later, itll work better.

Henry Smith is another that spends plenty of time on the sidelines with injuries.

Yet to take the field in 2026 with another foot injury, not ideal in big unitd

Why would it be many different? We wouldn’t have offered him a longer contract so OOC we’d still have the same lack of control

They’d have to trade for him, that’s the differentiating point. As a delisted free agent, we have no involvement at all, he just walks wherever he wants.

RE-SIGN - Cook, Taylor, Borlase, Hall-Kahan, Cotton, Walker, Hinge, Edwards, Jones

LOSE TO FA - Butts

TRADE - ROB, Pedlar

DELIST - Dowling, Ryan, Sholl, Maley, Welsh.

Trade for a younger backup ruck, add Bailey.

You lost me at Jones
