RE-SIGN - Cook, Taylor, Borlase, Hall-Kahan, Cotton, Walker, Hinge, Edwards, Jones

LOSE TO FA - Butts

TRADE - ROB, Pedlar

DELIST - Dowling, Ryan, Sholl, Maley, Welsh.

Trade for a younger backup ruck, add Bailey.
Who is going to trade for ROB? He still has 2 years left on his contract, so we can't just delist him either.

I get that ROB is likely to be seeking a trade, and that the club would be willing to help make it happen - but which club is going to want to take him?

I reckon someone like Richmond would rather have ROB in their side at the moment than Samson Ryan, Essendon would take him too.

I think he'd probably be happier to be a back up in Victoria than sit another 2 years playing in the SANFL.

We would have to pay part of the contract.

A club with no back up option.

WB, Collingwood, maybe Richmond.

I know this is controversial - but ROB would be one of the better back ups in the AFL and he's better than the first rucks for a couple of clubs. I'm also not convinced he's on a particularly high salary. I'd only want him gone because I'd like to see what a Goad or Dodson could be like in the backup role.

That is losing a helluva lot of depth which is important for a contending side. I cant see it being more than 5 or 6 changes. And would be very surprised if Jones gets another gig

LOSE TO FA - Butts

TRADE - ROB (only if we get a 3-4 year experienced ruckman back in another trade)

DELIST - Dowling, Ryan, Sholl, Jones

Which club would he be the number 1 ruck?

Anyone see how Goad went yesterday? 20 HOs and 4 kicks, so didn't get much of it in only 48m game time (<50%)

This would make sense as well.

I suppose the risk is, as you correctly identified, we could decide to let go 6-7 players from the squad that dont seem up to it - Welsh, Maley, Dowling, Sholl, Hinge, Ryan for starters

And then also have the following players at risk of being poached: Hinge, Borlase, Butts, ROB (maybe). Even Peds and Taylor likely to be on the shopping list for a few teams I imagine but am confident we can retain these 2 guys.

Worst case scenario is we lose 2 or more of these guys we want to keep (Butts and/or Borlase seems almost inevitable. I just have a suspicion Hinge will get poached by a team like the Horks after hearing Dunstall talk about him) AND we have another 5 or 6 from the above list.

Suddenly thats far more than ideal having 7-10 changes and losing significant amount of (varying) quality depth.

That's eight players out, seven on the senior list.

I can't see the club taking six players at the drafts after factoring in your trades

Yeah, I agree. I was thinking 2-3 free agents or trades, 3 draftees and a SSP.

But it does feel dramatically more than we'd normally do. That why I brought Jones back into the keep list but maybe there's better versions of that idea

Keep pedlar

Borlase a UFA - Jon Ralph reporting that a lot of clubs are coming hard for him.
I was staggered when he was last available that Port didn't come in for him as he would have cost very little and he can play the role they have really struggled to fill down. Hope he stays with us but if not he deserves a good pay day and a chance at regular footy going forward

I think we keep Jones on the list as a future sacrifice to the Tasmanian gods

The issue is there's no one really ready to take over unless we go smaller.
Or play Toby Murray which sounds bad to me.
But its a perpetual problem

When are we going to have someone take over? How do they ''take over '' when we keep playing him?

I love him but its time to move on

Seemed to go alright on Thursday without him

We won’t be replacing him. Just playing differently. And that other way may be better.

I think Port have invested a lot in key defenders and they don't want to do any more.
