Borlase was originally signed as a Cat B rookie in 2020. In 2003, he maxed out his time on the Cat B rookie list and was delisted. We then re-drafted him in the RD, re-setting the clock on his rookie list countdown clock - but he was now a Cat A rookie.

This is Borlase's 6th year on our rookie lists, but only his 3rd year since the last time he was drafted to the rookie list.

As per the post by Daniel6, he now needs to be delisted/re-drafted again, or promoted to the senior list.

It's only Borlase's 3rd year on the rookie list, so he doesn't need to be upgraded
Yes, he does. As per the post by Daniel6, players can only remain on the rookie list for a 4th year if they haven't played 10 AFL games. Borlase has played 23 AFL games, so this clause doesn't apply to him.

2027 will be his 5th year on the AFL list.

2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027.

It's more than that... he was originally signed in 2020, so this is already his 6th season on the list.

Note that he was delisted and re-drafted (as a Cat A rookie) in 2023, which reset the countdown clock. However, given that he's played 23 AFL games, he hits the 3-year rookie list time limit at the end of 2026.

At this point we need to either delist/re-draft him, or promote him to the senior list. Going down the delist/re-draft path seems unnecessarily cruel, given that the club already put him through that in 2023.

Is the AFL the only league in the world with stupid convoluted rules that are impossible to follow.

I doubt it. Sporting competitions love this shit.

They may, however, be the only league which changes the rules but fails to update their publicly available documentation covering those rules for multiple years. For example, it took them 3+ years to update their documentation to reflect the switch from Long Term Injury list to Inactive List; they still haven't updated the rules to reflect Father/Daughter draft rules.

I honestly didn’t know that was allowed. Oh well, nice little rule to give him a few more years.
Players can be delisted and re-drafted in the subsequent RD. This resets the countdown clock on their rookie list time limit. It also makes them a FA every time they come out of contract.

Borlase was delisted and re-drafted in 2023, after he maxed out the time he was allowed to spend on our Cat B rookie list.

I did think about that with HHK/Cumming but havn't seen enough to make my mind up yet.
I also agree with Pedlar/Keays on the talented part.......ANd the, he wont get his body together part.

Hinge vs Laird is interesting.
I was actually thinking last night. Laird is probably the way to see what our game plan is. He does it to a tee. And because he gets the ball so much, he sets things up. And by moving it so fast at the moment, he doesn't have the time to stuff it up. I actually think when people were ripping in to him for slow ball movement. It was more gamplan. I wonder if it was all Nicks. But how Laird's played since half time in that Richmond game. I'm actually not moaning when he gets it. I think the Laird we have right now is better than anything Hinge has shown in the past 18 months.

It's probably both Nicks (and the rest of the coaching group, they don't get a pass either) and Laird tbh. Nicks for reading the tea leaves wrong and for thinking the Brisbane model was going to be the standard coming into 2026 where kicking was going to be predominate and Laird for not having the skillset/mental side to hold up in that kind of game plan. The promising thing is we're slowly pivoting away from that whilst retaining our defensive strength.

Mind you, another explanation may simply be form/injuries. I mean, the general quality of the best 22 has increased since that Richmond game which does make it easier to play well. Laird is probably a barometer for squad quality in many ways, seeing he's a half back flanker who will keep things ticking instead of being able to drive offense.

We do need to eventually move past Rory and I'm hopeful HHK is starting to put together a run that will allow for it.
