This could be a great recruit late in the draft or rookie draft, ensuring a legacy of MurphysView attachment 2272819

So four rounds in, what does it look like a few of our list needs are?

For mine, via trade:
  • an A-grade KPD. Murray is a bit injury prone and I don’t trust Keane enough now, especially in Muz’s absence
  • more class on the outside, whether it be NWM or someone else. For the way we’re aiming to play, we can’t get enough of it
  • a goddamn ruck

Via draft:
  • a small forward with great goal sense to develop
  • again, outside speed/class

We need a ruck first and foremost.

I mean I agree with the rest but we will see Nicks using Thrilthorpe in ruck to compensate this year.

Yeah it’s not in order of priority, more in order of the current quality of player we should be bringing in

I don’t really care if the ruck we get is playing reserves, he just needs to be promising enough to show faith in him as our #1 ruck going forward

Whereas we don’t need another depth KPD, we need someone who has the capability to be a true defensive general

If anything getting a new ruck to replace ROB would mean Thilthorpe spends more time in the ruck, as ROB has better endurance than most. Unless we are planning to play someone else as the backup ruck as well. But I think we should get used to Thilthorpe playing some time in the ruck as he will likely do it throughout his career, as will someone like Sam Darcy.

Biggest need would be a rebounding half-back. NWM would obviously be perfect. Ruck would be nice too.

Can’t imagine anyone would knock back NWM but we do have the following hbf types currently :

Hinge
Max
Milera
Jones

Edwards
Ryan

Pick up NWM, even if we lose Milera at the end of yr and the question is what happens to our 2 late first rounders from 2023 in Ryan and Edwards. Where do they fit in going forward either half back or possibly midfield for Edwards as we seem pretty “stacked”

Max isn’t in the discussion, different player. You’re talking about a player who is better than all of those, he’d play, Milera and Jones gone. We don’t know if Ryan and Edwards will make it. Edwards anyway was drafted as a mid, we are plying him half back, that can change.

Ruck to replace O'Brien
Wingman to replace Sholl
Half back to replace Laird or Milera (Nankervis replacing the other)
Key defender in case Keane doesn't develop
Small forward so we have depth that isn't Murphy
Developing key defender to replace Borlase
Developing key forward to replace Burgess

Where is Jones going considering he is contracted until end of next yr. If Milera has a decent year and remains injury free we will offer him another contract, Whether he accepts or looks at FA time will tell

I thought I said we would take NWM (obviously) it’s more how do we fit the 2 young 2023 draftees in, they seem surplus to our needs.

Jones SANFL like he is now.
If we offer Milera another contract that’s on them.
Edwards midfield over time.
Ryan defence over time.
Or both don’t make it

The TLA I'd rather recruit than NWM would be TDK.

Imagine it!

Any chance > 0.000001%?

Milera will get a 2 year contract

Toby Murray seems the obvious replacement for Burgess.

Toby Murray is the Thilthorpe coverage but we also need Fogarty coverage.
Depends when Tex retires. If he continues to play like the last fortnight he could go on another year again

Until then we can afford to have one less depth KPF probably, given we play four in the best side

I think the two from 2023 will force their way in if they are good enough but neither were real top end picks so we can't bank on them.

The Milera negotiation will be interesting. It won't be long until his Manager starts leaking made up stories about big offers from rival clubs to force our hand. He was in a much better position last time around.

We are stuck with Jones unless he thinks he can get two years or more elsewhere.

I hope we do more than just the obvious delistings. The moment you think the list rebuild is done and you just tweak around the edges is when things start to go backwards.

I'm not saying I disagree, but ...

You would like a ruck,.an outside mid, a small defender, a tall defender, a small forward and a tall forward?

So - no inside mid?

We have so many inside mids we have Draper playing mostly sub, Peatling playing off half forward, Taylor playing small forward in the SANFL and multiple depth players.

I wouldn't take an inside mid unless we somehow ended up with a top 10 pick

I reckon we bundle up some of our depth players, perhaps 2 or maximum 3 of them if we can improve draft hand. Berry, Taylor and Sholl/Jones are obvious examples. Prefer to keep Butts, Pedlar, Bond and Nank. Ideally Edwards and Ryan also stay.
