Like discarding Milera with Ryan and Edwards up our sleeve...oh wait..
Yeah, I certainly felt uneasy seeing that. Would seem the perfect option to transition a more expensive player out for a cheaper one (perhaps) capable of performing similarly.

I guess in the club's mind they already have one experienced half back on the way out in Smith. Two at once would have given them conniptions

I was on the fence with Draper before the Achilles. Now it’s a hard no.

Should have taken Grundy when he was cheap and started developing the next generation. Missed opportunity and now we’re looking at overpaying (in salary) for an injured player that even at their best would have been slight upgrade at best over ROB.

I'm firmly in the camp of not paying anything beyond a mid-range salary for a ruck. Have a look at all the premiership sides over the past 10 years. Outside of Melbourne and Gawn, I'm not sure any of them have had anything more than an average plodder as their ruckman.

What about that Vigo Visentini kid for Essendon, getting some big numbers in the VFL and can dangle the 'same state as your brother' carrot.
You think he's ready to lead the ruck at AFL level in 2026?

Would be great to pick him up as a development ruck but we don't seem interested in going down that path unfortunately.

I don't know much about him thus just throwing his name out there, I'll leave that to the new kid experts

Twomey reporting Brisbane now in the Sam Draper hunt big time with McInerney having ongoing back issues and 31 next year, Darcy Fort 32 next year and Henry Smith now also having ongoing back and foot issues apparently.

Draper ain't coming cheap salary wise as someone suggested the other day.

Good !
They can have him

TDK going to St.Kilda we would be idiots to not entice Rowan Marshall

For what its worth, i've never been more the lupe warm on the Draper interest. Feels like a high priced side-step to me. Like Brodie Grundy but worse. As in still expensive, and with depreciating returns, but never anywhere near as good as peak Grundy was to warrant the salary.

Feel like surely there is an cheaper and higher ceiling option that's bubbling under the AFL surface. And i'd prefer to take a shot at the next Lloyd Meek, over the next post Collingwood Brodie Grundy.

I'd certainly take TDK if there was any chance at all of him playing for Adelaide, which there isn't. Draper would I guess be a replacement for ROB if ROB leaves, but yeah I'd rather keep what we have. ROB's endurance means Thilthorpe rarely has to ruck which is great, and he's perfectly adequate most weeks.
What would you pay TDK though ? Given what his contract offers are I wouldn’t take him at all

Pure asinine madness to pay a ruckman $1.7 million a season, anymore than a $1mill a season for a ruckman is pure folly no matter how good they are.....especially a long term contract.

I feel like because ROB is shit, people think we're moving on someone on peanuts for someone on an overinflated contract.

ROB is a club champion, a leader, has a huge workload as first ruck that would be considered when they drew up his contract. ROB would not be on small money.

There might not be a huge difference in these two contracts.

Draper as a player does not excite me though.
The thing we need to remember with ROB, is his durability. He very rarely misses a game and I cannot remember him ever having any sort of serious injury? We have based our list strategy for rucks on this too and not had to worry about having multiple back up options.

If we were to bring someone like Draper in, we would not have that luxury to only have the one break glass back up.

While I'm not excited by Draper, I doubt ROB is on a cheap deal himself.

My guess is ROB is on alot more than we think. He signed at the right time and had all the leverage. We also had the upcoming cap space back then.

What's Nick madden like from the Giants? He's getting good numbers in the VFL.
Not the most athletic of rucks, more Mumford style i.e. contested, brute strength etc if we're talking pure rucks which is what he is essentially.
