I like McVee but I think he'd cost more than we should be willing to pay, considering we've already got eight players for seven spots in our defence. Maybe if we're convinced he could do a job on the wing and unleash Curtin as an on-baller? If we're just looking for another defender I think Budarick would be much cheaper.

if Tex retires, would Kyle Langford be an option as a replacement to keep the current structure?
Obviously not fit to tie tex's laces, but most aren't. Fitness is a bit of an issue with him, but when he's fit and firing, he's pretty decent.
Contracted until 2027, so would require a bit of draft collateral, but Ess might be willing to deal a 28 year old given their current state.

Would like to trade for Callum Achee (RFA?). Good value for kicks, good mark and goal kicker, medium marking forward that we lack.

I would love for us to target Windhager from the Saints
Good mates with NWM

I know some on here aren’t huge fans of his, but looks to me like Ashton Moir is still out of contract.

There were plenty of reports last month he was poised to signed a two-year extension but it hasn’t officially happened as far as I can see, which has me wondering why.

Separate to that, given we missed on Nas we need another avenue to level up our midfield. Whether that’s swinging for the fences with Oliver, assuming a full pre-season will have Sid ready to explode, judging that McVee can move there, or pushing Max into the centre.

And/Or we dangle a full-time mid role to Zac Bailey (although I think he’s more likely to move next near as a FA).

Whatever it is, we need to be doing something.

Wouldn’t be touching that with a ten foot pole.

Not my preference either but I want us to try something.
I think we are trying something

I figure the last season signings were a sign we are targetting specific players ( please god no Draper )

But rest assured there are things happening

Media reports have us interested in NWM, Draper, and Ah Chee. We obviously missed out on NWM, so the speculation is that this just frees up more money for bigger offers to the other two.

I'm really not keen on Draper, but Ah Chee would be an excellent addition to the team.

Yeh. Happy to get Ah Chee. Just not for a first rounder.

If we could position ourselves for Ah Chee, Draper (free agent) and maybe bring our future first into play to get a higher draft pick I'd be about that.

It probably won't (and shouldn't) cost a 1st rounder - but our first rounder will be well into the 20s, and could be as late as 30 by the time all the F/S and Academy bids come in. It's not as high a price to be paying as it would have been in the last few years, when we've been closer to the bottom of the ladder.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we are going hard after another player yet to be revealed. Just a gut feeling based on the stealthy way we’ve been doing business lately.

Let's just go for Charlie Curnow as Tex's replacement

I cant remember a more favourable time for our club to entice players from lesser clubs. These lesser clubs include non-AFL state teams (Giants, Swans, Lions, Suns) and the weaker perpetual strugglers from VIC (Kangas, Saints, Dees for starters, Dons possibly pushing into this territory). Have excluded the rabble on the wrong side of Port Road due to the Gentlemans agreement not to actively poach quality players from each other (causing an increasingly ongoing bidding war which helps neither club long term).

So with around half (8 of 17) clubs ripe for the picking now is the time to strike:

  • we have excellent salary cap capacity (ranked mid tier in recent H/Sun article which I estimate being 2-3m spare which is consistent with Trigger13s info from a reliable industry source about our front loaded contract to Nas)
  • we have exceptional short/mid/long term prospects of playing success. I camt imagine we wont be top 2-3 flag faves start of 2026 even without bringing in new talent
  • we have coaches and players that have recently come from a number of these clubs (Dees, Giants and Lions) with pre-existing relationships that can sell the virtues
  • Nicks has built a culture that has seen unprecedented buy in both from player retention and attracting new quality recruits (inc a non SA player Peatling being chased by 5-6 clubs last year. Has this ever happened before?)
  • Destination Adelaide perception. As much as I love MLB its struggling in various ways currently inc the areas high income people normally live and frequent.

The Crows have stated they are trying to create the longest premiership window they possibly can. Reids inbound trades have been exceptional in recent years. I believe the next couple of years can further cement that and open the flag window - wide open - for a good 5-6 years at least.

Get Ah Chee. Get Mc Vee. Get Draper. We can afford them all and they add significant value. McVee replaces Laird longer term. Ah Chee means Murphy never plays again. Draper is a quality back up to ROB (our biggest list weakness currently where we have been very lucky) and/or the Crows believe he can make it as a tall forward target (questions remain to me). And then the question is who is next? Will Edwards make it as a hbf or mid? I still have hopes. T Murray? We would still have capacity for the one last bug missing piece of the jigsaw in my view and maybe that is NWM in 2 years time where we give up 2-3 firsts and some players but have clearly the most talented squad going around. Tex is the only material loss the next 3 years

The ONE and only glaring hole is one last elite mid but IF Draper comes good we have Dawson, Soligo, Rankine, Peatling, ideally Curtin and Draper which may already be on track to be a top quartile midfield. Gee, ast year most thought we had the worst midfield in the league.

With our culture, list profile, fitness guys, collective coaching and Executive (Mgt and Board) we are as well placed for success as I have seen in 35 years

Besides the failed Nas, we have 2-3 other irons in the fire. But no idea who
