I actually think bringing Neale into our club would be huge for the development of the younger mids — iron sharpens iron. There’s stuff elite mids pass on that you just can’t teach, like the knowledge handed down from guys like Fyfe to Neale.
If he moves on, Brisbane might finally have enough money to keep Bailey, which is another factor. My fear is Neale ends up at Collingwood, or Brisbane convince him to stay. Either way, if there’s even a chance, I reckon we should be having a crack.

I remember reading an article some time ago where Lachie Neale was pissed off that neither SA club drafted him, pretty sure he said we showed some interest and interviewed him several times but the other mob showed no interest at all. This one is more recent.

Ive maintained from a long way back through family members that this is true

On another topic I wonder if recruiters look for grudge motivation as a drafting point - some players do use grudges to play well against certain sides

“I don’t know who the recruiters were at Port Adelaide but they didn’t want me,”

“The Crows interviewed me, so I’ll go a little bit easier on the Crows. And we’ve got them next week so I’ll pump them up."

If the Power put their hat in the ring, his ill feeling he has towards the Power may disappear pretty quick, considering how much money they will have.

Don't want to trade out of this draft if we are a chance at Edwards, Herbert or Drever we need to stay in it

I would try going 2027 + 2028 1st with a future 3rd coming back

Next years draft is compromised and if we push for a flag then 2028 pick will be junk

Gives us something like

Draft : 1 of Kodah Edwards, Ethan Herbert or Ethan Drever

Trade/FA: Bailey and Merrett

Out:

2027 + 2028 1st and we are gaining 2 A grade Elite players and a gun junior
A 2027 and 2028 first won't get you a bag of chips.

Neale to WA doesn’t make much sense to me.

Unless he’s planning on a post-footy life in Perth, it seems unnecessary to move there for a few years and get his kids used to that arrangement only to move away again once his playing career is over.

I’d expect he’d be more likely to be influenced by where he wants to live and work a few years down the track, and that’s probably SA or VIC (depending on his ambitions).

If it means there’s some travel involved in seeing his kids, that’s no different to his current situation.

There were rumours of him trying to push for a move back to WA a couple years ago I think, so I reckon living and working there post-footy is or was on the radar.

Yes but I believe his now ex-wife was thought to be a big part of that push, and I'd imagine his radar might be quite different these days.
